You are better off using a winch relay setup to run the hoist. The repeated up and down will wear out the contacts. These are not meant to be used as on off switches. They are mean to change over power from one set of contacts to the other every once and awhile. Like if one set of batteries are dead and you switch to the back up batteries. Winch relay setups are made for the faster, repeated in and out if hoists and winches.

Depends. This swaps one supply to 2 loads or 2 supplies to a single load. It's a change over switch.

FYI - these are AC not DC rated knife switches, careful because of arcing on high current applications, after a while these switches will weld shut.
Should be fine using it off load to switch between different items. thats what kills 90% of knife type isolators.
