The recipient is an Iranian woman imprisoned for years because she has spoken out about the rights of women. I know you will do the research to find out the complete story. Her name is Narges Mohammadi. If you recall, Angelina's grandma is Iranian. I don't know if Angelina chose the song (I have to believe she did!) but the song she sang was a slowed down version of 'Unchained Melody'. It is a stirring performance in front of an orchestra. The woman (mother of twin children, a boy and a girl) is still in prison. Her children and her husband live in France. A very emotional part of the whole story is the Iranian authorities considered releasing her from prison a number of years ago BUT with a condition, that she no longer speak out about women's rights. She met with her children and husband and, of course, told them how much she loved them, missed them and would love to be a family again BUT, she reminded them how strongly she felt about the issues she raised and that she could NEVER agree to that condition, so she remains in prison. To further complicate matters she has, if released, said she would never leave Iran. Angelina, in rehearsal was nervous she might cry during the official singing of the song but she kept it together and was wonderful. She could sing the phone book and make it sound epic!😁 That being said, I know this is a very old tune, and although English is her second language, I'm surprised no one caught that she was singing 'ridges of barley' instead of 'rigs of barley'. Rigs is an old English term for sheaves of barley which is what you had when the barley was cut and bundled up to make it easy to carry.😉 Still a wonderful song, and sung by the best!!😍👍👍
