    I’ve just gone from a top spec performance bmw to this auris and I love it. Perfectly functional and much more comfortable.
    I think it looks fine too inside and out 🤷‍♂️
    I love it.
    As regards performance, my Bmw did 0-60 in 5 something seconds. Top speed of 155.
    I can 100% say you never need more power and performance than what this auris offers unless you are in Germany, on a track or breaking the rules of the road in the uk.
    The performance is absolutely adequate for uk roads.

    Excellent all round review, viewed from petrol engine point especially when one is considering to switch to a hybrid and doesn't know what to expect. So I'll say thank you very much for this review helped me make up my mind. One more point to reinforce your argument there is the fact that unless you have a plug-in or long commute then you will for the most part run on petrol/Eco mode as the pure EV mode will need a relatively well charged battery.

    It's a hybrid. It's made for economy. How fast does this bloke wish to drive? UK roads are congested and full of speed cameras. Toyota have sold over 10million. Another amateur know all here, and a biased ignorant review.

    • @carshizz1185
      @carshizz1185  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Jeremy, glad I touched a nerve! I didn't realise the word hybrid was code for slow, noisy and inefficient which is what this car is. Just because the technology has good intentions doesn't make up for poor execution. Toyota aren't the only one's at the hybrid party anymore so they really need to wake up and smell the boredom. But well done to Toyota for selling 10 million hybrid's they must have used the same mind control trick that they employed to make the Corolla the world's best selling car. Popular doesn't always mean good, it can also mean bland and unimaginative.
      To address you question about my love of speed, I'm more than happy to drive the speed limit I just don't want to take an eternity to get there and have to go deaf in the process. Tall order maybe.
      You are right about my amateur status though, it's true that I don't make a living out of making car reviews but I am a car enthusiast and that probably explains why I am so biased (right again!) against this car. No car earns the right to be as hopelessly joyless as this car, hybrid or not!

    • @wabissabi

      Corolla wouldn't have been carrying the title of world's best selling car if not for the insane penetration of the US market. And it was and still is a very different car there compared to the rest of the world. So it's no wonder that it doesn't mean a thing for the majority of the people. Because Corolla IS a boring car, like the majority of Toyota cars. Interestingly, the most fun Toyota car I drove was a Yaris TS.

      @@carshizz1185 eternity to get there? 0-60 in 10 seconds, so you will reach motorway speed in what, 12 seconds? That’s an eternity to you??

    Would have been useful to study the detail first, however, the concept of their 'Hybrid' power system is to operate the engine in a mode that maximises it's thermal efficiency, at the expense of reduced power rating (it switched between the Atkinson and Otto cycles by tweaking the valve timing); this is compensated by having a traction motor in tandem. Traction motors can always deliver their maximum torque at zero speed; these cars almost always start from rest without the engine, at least on the level. I appreciate your reaction to the way the eCVT works. I went for a Yaris Hybrid (the 'segment B' model), which is similar, and my first trial run on one involved a steep gradient. Some don't like it, but it works well; just forget about manual gearboxes - it does it's own thing. One of the nice things is the way cruise control works on varying gradients - it can maintain a steady speed downhill by capturing spare energy, rather than using friction brakes. Cars like this are at their best on start/stop trips, rather than long distance cruising - in the latter case one's probably better off with modern diesel engines, while they last.

    and what is the difference in price to the Leaf? And why do you keep on talking about power and performance? We are not all boy racers!

  • @wabissabi
    @wabissabi 6 лет назад +3

    This is 2/3 the price of a leaf in my country. A decent value over all, I couldn't imagine calling this a depressing experience before I heard you. There is also something extremely weird with this car of yours. I test driven an Auris 2018 2 months ago and the interior noise was close to non-existant. So if this is really how it sounded in real life, and not some post-editing, then I feel you. But I still strongly believe there is something DEEPLY ODD with that. It should be almost dead silent. Maybe it's different in Romania than the UK, who knows?

    • @carshizz1185
      @carshizz1185  6 лет назад

      In the UK the spec Auris I drove was pretty much the same as the base spec Nissan Leaf but that is with a government grant to persuade people to buy electric cars. The sound on the video is unaltered and so what you hear is what I heard driving the car. I was surprised at how unrefined and noisy the car was to drive. If you have a better experience in Romania and the car is 2/3 the price then good luck to you. Thanks for your comment.

    Spot on Jeremy, he certainly is, "another amateur know all". The whole world is wrong and he's right kinda guy. That's it then no more Auris cars will be sold. Might as well shut up shop and be on your way then Toyota. Cheers anyway!

    • @carshizz1185
      @carshizz1185  6 лет назад +1

      Haha I'm sure my wife would agree with the first part of your statement. But in all seriousness I don't think that the whole world is (always) wrong all the time but sometimes it is good to question the establishment and the status quo and ask is this the best that they (in this case Toyota) can come up with? And if so, does it really move the game on and by how much? If people never questioned or challenged the world around them then where would we be? I just believe that Toyota could do better and we the customer deserve them to do better.

    Wtf is wrong with you? Comparing a Hybrid against an electric car, what's next, boat vs plane and complaining about the boat for not flying?

    • @carshizz1185
      @carshizz1185  6 лет назад +3

      I'll explain the logic. I was comparing Hybrid and Electric cars because we are looking at alternative technologies to the traditional petrol and diesel engine and seeing how they compare and stack up in the real would. Both of these cars are of similar size and price whilst offering a "green" alternative to their segment so comparing the two seemed perfectly reasonably to us crazy people. As for boats and planes, check out a sea plane it'll blow your mind!

    A very subjective review.. this is actualy a very good car and certanly more economical and usefull than a nissan leaf. I drive the Auris and it meets my expectations, its very economical, it brings me from a to b, doesnt break down.. fuel consumption is around 4l/100km which ist great. And with things as cars I dont care about stile, that would be imature and pointless. If you by accident should stumble on this rewiev, better look for a more seriouse one, there are quite a few in depth ones from people who actualy took the time and understand the technology behind the HSE from Toyota.
