    Forget about people in olden times being prude. Seen multiple paintings of couples in the middle ages, and heard songs like this,. naughty! I think people then had a lot more fun. Love this song, and heard several versions different from the score ! thanks !

    People today: “music nowadays is so raunchy; music from hundreds of years ago was so much more elegant.”
    Renaissance secular music: “Allow us to introduce ourselves.”

      Renaissance secular music is still much more elegant than modern day music.

    Very well done, and not at all too slow - it is lively, agile and promotes the words, just as it should be. No need to rush it. - Is this really the original text? In my song book the last verse is a bit "mitigated" and speaks of nothing more than kissing and dancing...

    • @imrik85

    Che bei ricordi avendola cantata col nostro coro polifonico, in abiti Rinascimentali. Il brano è malizioso. 😊
    Il pretendente, nella canzone, era tedesco quindi sbagliando pronuncia, anziché: "Madonna mia cara" diceva: "Matona".
    Ovviamente Madonna era riferito alla donna e non era il riferimento sacro.

    Isn't this Orlando Di Lasso? Also if this is cut time there are way too many beats in a measure. Aren't there? Beautiful vocals.

    • @tesz4952
      @tesz4952 9 лет назад +9

      +AJ Meeker Roland de Lassus is another name of Orlando di Lasso. There are too many beats in a measure becasue it's a modern notation of a renaissance madrigal. In that time composers used different type of notes. More info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mensural_notation

      It's not a mistake, Laussus knew Italian, yet he chose to portrait how a German might spoke, saying matona instead of madonna, cazzar instead of cacciar, an so on, even says "I'm ignorant, i don't know the verses of Petrarca" before making sexy suggestions to the fair maiden

      +Andrea Scalia (Andrea81) I had a very good Italian recording of this work years ago and the tempo was brisk with a good translation. It was zestily and robustly sung. I can't see how a conductor could possibly take this slowly, if one imagines a lusty young man, stumbling over his Italian in his haste to get to the lovely lady in question. The Renaissance was a gutsy time!
