    Vertical up position is the most difficult to master but has the best penetration and strength versus vertical down method.
    The vertical down weld @ 2:24 is perfect.
    And the vertical up @4:01?
    Well done Sir! Well done indeed, I say!

      @Way Outthere Sorry mate didn’t mean to offend you, I’m also sorry for spending the first 6 yrs of my working life doing an apprenticeship in the boiler making and heavy structural steel industry doing gas and oil pipe and skid work on sight, you are obviously suffering from some form of insecurity syndrome. You know how tradesmen recognise bullshit artists like your self? You spew insults knowing full well I could never challenge you, so I’ll tell you what mate, just climb back in the cesspit from which you crawled. I never once insulted or challenged the person who took the time to make these videos I just pointed out that I’d never seen done what he did, plus I complimented on the videos. GFY.

      I don't weld for a living but I wouldn't use that technique on anything I weld. Thats why electrode sizes are as thin as 1.6mm so thin steel can be welded with lower amps and decent beads that will be strong. Tacks are fort holding steel together before a proper solid weld can be put down.

    I concluded that you are a good welder by the selected music and the accompaniment of the sounds like YAAAAHUUUUU!
    While the 6013, the diameter and the amperage are important, it is just as important to dwell for a longer time where there is more meat in the workpiece. .In the vertical square section there was the bulk material of the CORNER while the horizontal square section there was the flimsy EDGE. so one needed to dwell more on the corner rather than the edge.
    EXCELLENT videos and again , I like the music and the occasional YAAAAHUUUU. and of course the WOW! Well done.

    Try smaller rod and lower amp setting on your vertical uphill to see if you can run a continuous bead ...you might get slag trap in there and weld won't be solid.

    • @zenobiahaku4087
      @zenobiahaku4087 Год назад +8

      He used 6013, not 6011 or 7018, this „stop-weld” is a good technique with it, when you go uphill. It is useful even with 7014 electrode. 6013 and 7014 are not fast freezing type electrodes, you cannot weld with them on uphill continuously. This is not an easy technique, it takes a lot of time to master it, but can be useful, when you only have 6013 in your pocket...

    • @texaswelder3745
      @texaswelder3745 Год назад +3

      @@zenobiahaku4087 I can't think of any process where you could weld like this and pass any kind of test. It may work somewhere other than the U.S., but you won't have a job for long doing that here. There are actually standards you have to meet with your work, for safety reasons, for one thing.
      Edit: also, the "1" in 7018, 6010, etc, tells you that you can actually do a continuous bead uphill. If you were using, say, a 7024 ("jet rods"), that is a flat or horizontal only rod. Either way, stopping and starting like that is a no no.

    • @zenobiahaku4087
      @zenobiahaku4087 Год назад +1

      @@texaswelder3745 Here, in Hungary, this is a mandatory technique in a welding exam. You need to do two welds, one fillet weld, overhead position on 60mm diameter, 4mm thick pipe, and 5mm plate. Your second weld is a vertical butt weld, on 4mm plates uphill, 300mm long (plus the start and finish tabs). You have only 6013 rods, with the diameter of 2,5mm...the fillet weld is not a big deal, but the second one is a nightmare...skip-n-weld, and avoid slag inclusions, excessive root penetration, and make decent crown width and height...

    • @joshkarena3058

    Hello. what is the ampere setting for thin and thick metals? thanks.

    • @danaecastro1209
      @danaecastro1209 Год назад +2

      given that weld D only gives heart on the comments, i can provide you with a rule. if you are from USA (and if you'r not aswell) theres a simple trick to convert material thickness to amperage. you convert fractions of an inch to decimals of an inch, for example, 1/8 inch equals to 0.125 of an inch in decimal, and that number translates directly to ampere. so be it 125 ampere for a material thickness of 1/8 inch, or 3.18mm if you use metric. hope this information would be useful to you.
