Can’t get over how good this album is. I’d have checked it out from a perspective of admiring Alex but I’ve totally fallen in love with it. Miaha’s vocals are stunning and as a fan of Garbage since they started she evokes some of the best parts of their classic era.

I've been absolutely obsessed with this album for the last week or so. This deep dive interview was a lovely treat. Maiah is a genuine talent, no doubt. It's cool to see how much they all respect her musicality. No egos, no bullshit, just shared love of music and the process of creation. Inspirational.

Maiah def hit the jackpot to have the opportunity to make something with these guys, but at the same time they hit the jackpot in finding such an amazing singer! I'm a lifelong Rush fan, and I love this album even more cuz it's nothing like Rush. It's been my chillout album since it came out.

Just listened to the whole album for the second time. Honestly, there are moments where the arm hair stands up. Hauntingly beautiful. The atmospherics throughout are incredible. And I like how her voice is mixed like another instrument instead of sitting on top. Masterfully done.

Headphone record: yes. But this one you can still listen to it on a car stereo and enjoy it. Engineers love the headphone record. Rarely do you run into something that really does both as does this one.

This isn't a good album, This is a great album! Makes my day every morning when I turn it on. I'm trying to pinpoint Miahas voice, and who she sounds like. The more I listen, the only one she sounds like?? Is HER. She has her own Uniqueness. God I just love this kid.❤

This is such a fantastic project, and for it to come about in such an organic, "happenstance" sort of way is mind-blowing. Maiah's this unassuming performer with amazing talent and skill. Alf is this equally unassuming, self-effacing musician who knows exactly what to add or subtract from a track. Andy's this driving, relentless force with amazing vision (and some damn good bass chopa). Alex is... well, he's Alex, what else needs to be said there. No egos, everyone's supporting each other's ideas. Every band should be so fortunate to be in their situation. Can't wait to see what's next!

I understand what your saying about Maiah 'Winning the Lottery', and there is a certain amount of LUCK involved for a unknown to end up as the Lead Singer of a band that features ALEX LIFESON, but I think that Maiah WORKED REALLLY HARD, and made the RIGHT DECISIONS to set herself up for success... So she made her OWN LUCK! If I may make a reference to a Rush song off of 'Test for Echo', Maiah was 'Driven'!

First of all, I am so happy to hear Alex writing music and using tracks "in service of the song", as others have stated. That is a TRUE professional, right there. I feel like he did the same thing when Geddy was getting overzealous with the keyboards in the later Rush stuff. He was just sitting back, writing excellent guitar tracks, the way he always does/did. And Maiah's "60 vocal tracks", yeah, she's got an excellent voice, but I went back and listened to this album, and its true... there are vocal tracks lined throughout much of the music, but it only adds to the ethereal quality of the experience, overall, in my opinion. How they would ever perform this stuff live, with all the vocal layers it has, is another matter. Geddy was great at laying down excellent (and fulfilling) bass tracks to cover for when Alex did solos, but you can't do that with vocals.

I was sold on the music alone. Now, after seeing them speak with such selfless, creative love for their art, I am in love with this 'project'. I apologize, in advance, to Mr. Lifeson and the rest of the guys, but if you don't figure out how to create a band and take this on the road, it would be a travesty to humanity. At least a few select dates. Your fans want to see you, especially with something so unique, refreshing, and absolutely beautiful. I am curious if Geddy has heard it, and what he thinks of it. Not to put too much of the 'other' band into it, but it would be interesting to hear what it would sound like if Geddy produced the next 'project' you guys do together, or, at least co-produced. I think it would definitely add something special, if even for a song. But, please, take it on the road, first. And, being a fellow Portlander, and since Ms. Wynne is also from here, stop here, first! Love, love, love you guys and will excitedly show you off to everyone that will listen.

Great interview Alan - as always, you let the artists speak without interruption!
I absolutely LOVE this album. The sonic textures and Maiah's voice are a real treat for the ears! I'm with Andy on this, I was so very happy to hear that Alex was creating again. After the interview he had after Neil's passing where he said he had zero interest in music, playing or creating, I felt for him, mourning the loss of his brother. It gave me a real sense of joy that he was back!! I'm happy he also found an environment to channel his other sounds! As a longtime Rush fan, I know Alex is the king of atmosphere, so interest was piqued on what he'd bring to this project - I wasn't disappointed! I knew a little of Coney Hatch, but also happy to hear Andy had a way of channeling his darker side!
Alf and Maiah are a revelation! I'm a big fan of electronic & industrial (besides my rock and metal leanings), and the sounds these two brought are just wonderful.
Going to enjoy listening to this often!! And it may be wishful thinking, but a live treatment would be amazing - even if it's a limited engagement run, or even a couple of shows, but recorded & issued for us all to savour! Thanks!

I fell in love with the album cover immediately. I didn't see those as two large pills though. LOL, for some reason, I thought they were suppositories (hence the intense look on the one model's face). As for the album.... I love it. I still want Alex to work again with Geddy, but I'm glad I got to be introduced to these other musicians. What a great collaboration project. I'm already hooked on several songs. I held off on listening to the album until my CD arrived (yes, I bought both the CD AND the Vinyl) because I wanted to hear it as it's meant to be presented, not as individual songs from a streaming service. I was rewarded nicely, the album is wonderful to play through.

"Look Inside", "Never Said I Love You", and "Dog's Life" are the standout tracks for me.
Wishing for a Geddy Lee cameo appearance, perhaps Backing Vocals - his high pitched falsetto would fit in nicely with Maiah.
Second Wish - a Live Show someday where Alex and Andy perform Andy's Hit with Coney Hatch - "Monkey Bars" as an Encore ... with Alex's sense of humor, it's a perfect fit :)

This Envy of None album is killer! And Andy still sells himself waaaay too short! His post Coney Hatch solo album No Tattoos is killer and I still listen to on a regular basis! One of the most under the radar all killer no filler albums by any artist or band. Seriously, if you like melodic hard rock from the 70s and 80s, you need to track down Any Curran No Tattoos!

Good interview. I agree with the notion that this album will challenge your stereo equipment. I foolishly have been a Spotify listener for several years. I can't believe I just realized how awful their audio quality is. Mess with the settings in fake EQ all you want, it's still bad. Switched to Apple Music and it's light years better. Even just in Chrome browser. I have Bose headphones and Sonos system at home. I cannot wait for the vinyl to arrive...sometime! Thoroughly enjoying some tracks here and am continuing to absorb it all on multiple listens. I have always been a Lifeson fan, mostly his atmospheric treatments and solos, acoustic work, etc. So I am happy with this set up. Keep rocking, MC

Been a Rush fan for a long time so long that I think some of you 60 something folks might remember a little place on Young st called " The Gas Works" 😂🤣😂 Living and growing up around Southern Ontario Rush was our "Led Zeppelin" and Max Webster was our "Mothers of invention" ..I think at this point Alex has done it all and this is truly a pet project ..It's a good album and a turn around for A.L. but in my opinion not his best work and like I said "pet project"
