Every single thing needs to be monetized. And it's not just official mods but a lot of fan mods are hidden behind paywall. Want new outfits for MH World/Rise? They pay me $6 each month.
Yep. Game studios now are about making games pretty without much substance. It’s like if someone made the most delicious-looking meal possible but it tastes bland and makes you feel frustrated you spent your hard earned money on it in the first place.
This video has a Crowbcat quality in it and I love it Though you shouldn’t compare 2000s to 2020s games with different genre like how you compared far cry 2 to arcade ones like the finals and black ops 6. It should be in similar genre like with far cry 5 and 6, you can see how much quality and gameplay got degraded.
Yeah MP games are always downgraded when compared to SP games they can't run advanced physics and particles since their server would need to simulate it for too many players.
@@MAWK3That's a good idea. I felt there were too many games in this video to keep up with. It would also be cool if you could compare the backgrounds of different games. I've been playing PS3 games and noticed that a lot of backgrounds, even in multiplayer, are very detailed with a lot going on, which immerses you even more.
The extremely complex models, shaders, and textures that devs commit to really hamper their ability to contort facial flexes. They try to make faces look "real" without giving them actual movement and expression. Just look at older horror games with character models and monsters having their whole shapes contort and move and get mutated with complex animations. Instead, we get overly detailed static meshes for everything that the devs just can't actively work with. Instead, they have to cut the camera away during moments to hide the fact they can't animate complex motion.
I was going to comment about the coming of the shills who defend their billion dollar company, but they're already here expect bs such as "unfair to compare these 10 year old apart games" "it's not a finished product" "devs were not given enough time" "devs were forced to do this" and, of course, "GET YOUR NOSTALGIA GLASSES OFF"
@@mdnp-grid487Yes, true, 6th and 7th have their bad sides but it is overshadowed by the people of 2000s and 1990s, they only focus on the good side in 6th and 7th and the only focus bad side in 8th
Who would have thought that the limitations actually, tangibly spawned creativity, today not only devs have infinite resources but also miserably fail at being artists.
Also, that light-shooting segment absolutely needs footage from the early Splinter Cell games, Perfect Dark (N64, 2000), and even Thief (1998). Taking down lights to conceal your movement and to create distraction's been a thing for 25 years. Similarly, anyone needing some great cutscene comparisons should absolutely thrown in footage from Silent Hill 3 (PS2, 2003), VtmB (2003), and Half-Life 2 (2004), and just about any Metal Gear Solid game; Kojima's still top tier cinematography master to this day, as seen in the Death Stranding (2019).
@@Silva_GPTons of DLC and Microtransactions, and if you even said anything about i: *JUST DONT BUY IT* 7th Gen was awful, and people treat it like some sort of a golden age.
Alot of the comparisons you made are completely unfair, like comparing Battlefield destruction to Red Faction Geurilla, Battlefield features destruction in a completely different way, its used partly for that immersion factor but also as a way to make flow and general gameplay different as the match progresses, while red faction geurilla is almost entirely focused on that destructive element as its main feature. The other games were also mostly destruction focused games, such as mercenaries and Crackdown while the modern game you compared them with just have it as a sort of side feature because it isnt the focus of the game.
Alot of my favourite games are from like 20 years ago that I still play. Star Wars Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Soldier of Fortune II, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc. I noticed alot are based on the quake 3 engine too lol

This is why I'm still playing older AAA games on PC, Xbox 360, and PS2 to this day. They will always be better than newer ones because they lack attention to detail and replayability and would just be a cash grab rather than a passion project, and most games are just remakes and remasters, which shows the lack of creativity from the modern gaming industry, and most games are online only, which I was never a fan of. Been enjoying your videos. Keep up the good work.
The lack of details in a lot of modern games makes me sad. And its amazing how we even had games from the 6th gen that did attention to detail better then what we see today. Also happy to see True Crime New York city in there. Despite its flaws, the details in that game were very impressive!
Fantastic video! I just had a thought, what if game companies began charging us a "small fee" if we wanted a refund for a game we didn't like, that would be pretty gnarly.
@@DrundeFPS They were made with passion money was secondary it was a complete experience with no dlcs but some got expansions and free patches (since late 90s), while now they think about how to overly monetize game FIRST and then deliver a semi playable game that is pretty much a $70 early access game that is broken at launch and with full dlcs that were cut from the game and sold separately
I've appreciated the details of older games for a long time, but seeing them directly compared actually made me a little angry 😅 Although there are great modern titles, and survivorship bias may affect our perception of older ones, I say props to you for showing a variety of games - I think this was tastefully done.
@@alkhoaja Yeah, if you can get the disc. I had the Ps3 version but its pretty much locked to the console and runs at like 20fps. Gog included all DLC plus 4k support.
is this crowbcat? Seeing FEAR first, warmed my heart. I finished the game multiple times on PC but now on PS3 with horrible framerate but with all the enjoyment on a console. Edit: Phantasy Star Online????? I wish I had known about this game before. SInce only the US play regularly, I can not play it, well - my skill is zero and time for that too. It could have been my favourite multiplayer game next to CnC Renegade and Enemy Territory. Man you hit the sack well with Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. True Crime, bruh.
You also missed on Phantasy Star Online 2 that launched few years ago what a great experience it was now it got ruined by Sega and new more gay and lame version called NGS which killed the IP.
Games have become hilariously stagnant since about 2018. We have been playing the last minute busted scams those and cash grabs from the end of the Xbox 360 for about 20 years now, but with every year, a feature or visual is made worse, something is removed outright for some malicious reason usually, or otherwise something is added but it’s bad or annoying. Almost never anything new. Everyone took the wrong message and ideas from games like Battlefield 1 and older games from the Xbox 360 and have been actively making their games worse the longer they go. Battlefield 1 was doing new things with a setting that was uncharted territory for aaa gaming with great new tech and crazy and obscure weapons. It was really when 2019’s modern warfare came out that it became obvious we were literally just giving up and not trying anymore. Just recycling a game idea from the late 90s and early 2000s verbatim with a few additions and updates, and now so many companies can’t even be bothered, so they just spam bad and broken remakes of games that were good 20 years ago when our standards were lower. We’re way past the DOS computer days. These companies need to stop pretending to play dictator like they’re in 1984.
Cool thing about F.E.A.R. is that the particle effects affect the AI too. If you can't see them, they also can't see you (or they fire blindly with low accuracy if they think you are pushing). Modern games don't take that into account so the AI always have perfect vision.
It’s so weird how companies with millions of dollars will make a cash grab or re release multiple versions of the same game. But some guy in a basement with just a computer can make a masterpiece of gaming!
Dude, you compared games that have different publics and game styles. They might be the same genre but a game like Battlefield or crysis cant be compared to a call of duty. One is a war that has way more realistic movement and even a build system, compared to call of duty, that is basically just a run n gun or arcade shooter. Some games are more physics based, and since these ones didnt use to have an online mode, or at least most of them didnt, they didnt had to focus on how it was going to work with a lot of players on the same server so they had more time to add these neat little things, but since nowadays almost evertything is focused in online multiplayer, they would have to create entire systems so the game doesnt explode or is abused by players to cheat in the game. To make a fair comparison you should use single player games that dont have an online multiplayer and then you'll see the evolution of games.
Modern AAA Games: Profits first, the moment it isn't profitable the cords are cut. Gameplay is designed by beancounters to maximize sales who define fun as a number, and reduce players to statistics. Risks aren't allowed, the only innovators are smaller studios who have to take risks to break, or make the market. Any semblance of risk is disguised as sequel to an existing franchise in the form of a spinoff, OR its a game that releases as an over saturated genre as a "safe" choice, OR its a remake, remaster, reimagining, redo, rerelease. 2000-2010 AAA Games: Developers controlled development, they took risks because they ultimately made games they wanted to make. If the gameplay before launch wasn't to their liking they changed it, but there wasn't necessarily the big publishers we know today meddling in the affairs of what they have no interest in. The market at this time is not nearly as over saturated as it is now. Even if the game wasn't "perfect" it still could sell. A large amount of the existing genres, and franchises can trace their roots back to this era for many now considered standard game mechanics. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows though. This is also the era where live service started. With the internets speed being much more reliable for the average player to have, developers started the trend of post launch updates. This could be considered good if the game was unplayable at launch since they could deploy a patch to fix it. It also meant that nerfing/buffing for balance became much more common. Same with patching exploits. Finally, it became ever more easy for developers to see random peoples feedback, negative, or positive, for better, or for worse.
@@MAWK3 I found out about the game about 2 years ago, I pull it out to show off what happens when developers don't have time to (or don't want to) listen to QA. There used to be a webcomic by the Penny Arcade guys called the Trenches, it was awful, but the meat were the stories of QA talking about their experience, and one of the stories talked about how a major AAA release came out with a ton of bugs that ranged from crashing the game to breaking it in ways you didn't think possible. I think that was it, because I accidentally got out of bounds into an unused subway tunnel my first time playing. Amazing experience, though, game was way ahead of its time.
Modern gaming at its peak, at least for PC/Console. I also wonder if mobile (phone) games will eventually turn like this in especially we're in huge glimpse of mobile games revolution will come out from time to time now like Delta force, WZM, R6M, Arena Breakout, etc. like that Also developers now predominately chinese who make great games, how the tables turned kinda sad seeing the future of gaming is fallen apart but on the bright side indies is on the rise. Btw im mostly on mobile gaming news so this is very interesting even tho i used to play on PC now switch on mobile since i dont want to sit for hours, also emulators were peak

100% paid mods should of never been a thing. Thanks brethen!! Apreicate you, looking forward to your new video!! 🔥
what about Total Conversions (if you even know what that mean)? They put a lot of effort and are basically new games.
Every single thing needs to be monetized. And it's not just official mods but a lot of fan mods are hidden behind paywall. Want new outfits for MH World/Rise? They pay me $6 each month.
Why is everyone caring about the physics when you can have fun
A lot of love and dedication was shown to older games
Yep. Game studios now are about making games pretty without much substance. It’s like if someone made the most delicious-looking meal possible but it tastes bland and makes you feel frustrated you spent your hard earned money on it in the first place.
Now it’s all corporate no innovation
This video has a Crowbcat quality in it and I love it
Though you shouldn’t compare 2000s to 2020s games with different genre like how you compared far cry 2 to arcade ones like the finals and black ops 6. It should be in similar genre like with far cry 5 and 6, you can see how much quality and gameplay got degraded.
Thank you for the kind words! Moving forward i plan on just comparing two games vs a ton of them.
The fact that cod don’t use licenses for their guns now is pathetic
This is a great video, hopefully the next generation can have more competent game engines and developers.
Thanks dude! I fully agree
You've managed to nail the point that games haven't been good for a long time
Thanks!!
More ambitious games is less powerful hardware.
I was going to comment about the coming of the shills who defend their billion dollar company, but they're already here
expect bs such as "unfair to compare these 10 year old apart games" "it's not a finished product" "devs were not given enough time" "devs were forced to do this" and, of course, "GET YOUR NOSTALGIA GLASSES OFF"
nostalgia glasses are a real thing though
@@mdnp-grid487Yes, true, 6th and 7th have their bad sides but it is overshadowed by the people of 2000s and 1990s, they only focus on the good side in 6th and 7th and the only focus bad side in 8th
I loved that you had the tbogt theme song at the end. such a nostalgic song. Great video btw!
The new Crowbcat
Big Ups Crowbcat 🙏🔥
GTA4,CS source, half life 2 and gta san andreas (with silentpatch) those are real 2000s AAA games
Who would have thought that the limitations actually, tangibly spawned creativity, today not only devs have infinite resources but also miserably fail at being artists.
GenZ be like "LOL >old good, new bad!!", amirite??"
Everyone else: *YES.*
Also, that light-shooting segment absolutely needs footage from the early Splinter Cell games, Perfect Dark (N64, 2000), and even Thief (1998). Taking down lights to conceal your movement and to create distraction's been a thing for 25 years.
Similarly, anyone needing some great cutscene comparisons should absolutely thrown in footage from Silent Hill 3 (PS2, 2003), VtmB (2003), and Half-Life 2 (2004), and just about any Metal Gear Solid game; Kojima's still top tier cinematography master to this day, as seen in the Death Stranding (2019).
gamers are delusional hypocrites, a lot of games back then were greedy like COD.
I'm Gen Z but I feel I have validation to say that lol since I grew up playing with a PS2.
@@DrundeFPSNot all, on PS3 games there is less micro-transactions compared to the PS4 and PS5 games.
@@Silva_GPTons of DLC and Microtransactions, and if you even said anything about i:
*JUST DONT BUY IT*
7th Gen was awful, and people treat it like some sort of a golden age.
BF Bad company 2 has full destructive environment tho.
Sure but BC2 was part of the BF series too and the destruction was better than 2042 anyways
Amazing video like old AAA games🔥❤️
Alot of my favourite games are from like 20 years ago that I still play. Star Wars Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Soldier of Fortune II, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc. I noticed alot are based on the quake 3 engine too lol
Jedi Academy was so damn good man. I used to play that on my OG xbox back in the day!!
This hits hard, I miss the days where triple A companies made even the generic NPCs feel like actual relevant characters
Excellent video👌
Thanks Cursed!!
The imagination and sheer talent the devs had back then was truly amazing.
Damn only 300 views you should get more views
Big ups Hashplays 🙏
i rarely comment on videos, but god damn! This was a great one man. Love the attention to detail. keep it up
you earned a new subscriber for sure
Thanks man! Means a lot 😊🙏
Ghost recon phantom was one game i wanted to play, then when I had the chance the server were down :(
Bro has got his priorities straight
Amazing video
Thank you bro!!
1:59 PARADISE BIRD THEORY FROM CRACKDOWN MENTIONEDD 🗣️‼️🎶, seriously though, what an absolute banger of a vid once again mate, you can tell pure effort was put into this.
Next time you stream, hit us with a "Walk wid ya boizzz" pls ☺️
That track lives rent free in my head 😅 of course man thank you!
Rainbow six Vegas 1-2 were the best FPS games I’ve own still to this day I want Vegas 3
Sweet Baby Inc really earned their checks with that timeless dialogue huh?
Imagine destruction that didn't make the rubble disappear.
The best nostalgic part of the video is 32:25 with GTA TBoGT pause music i have felt chills
Fantastic video! I just had a thought, what if game companies began charging us a "small fee" if we wanted a refund for a game we didn't like, that would be pretty gnarly.
This SBI activist destroy all videogames
Older games- Made for fun
Newer games- Made for money
you are the proof gamers are delusional, you imply that old games aren't made for money, what i can expect from someone with a tf2 pfp.
@@Dregomz02 games back then was never made for money, they had a budget of millions for nothing, you all are the reason why the industry is dying lol
Bro i have to really say this: old games was really gold and a real gems, but the games now days since 2020 to now days really sucks up big time man
Move over, Crowbcat. Mawk3 is in the house!
Big ups Kingmaster!! 🙏🔥
Crowbcat 2 huh.
Excellent vid
Thank you Muzafferturhan!!
Honestly Red faction guerrilla had the best destruction I've ever seen. I have yet to see another game be on par with its destruction.
This is why i still play old games, they’re way more fun than modern games
This is so sad, that saints row reboot tanked the studio
I've appreciated the details of older games for a long time, but seeing them directly compared actually made me a little angry 😅
Although there are great modern titles, and survivorship bias may affect our perception of older ones, I say props to you for showing a variety of games - I think this was tastefully done.
F.E.A.R. platinum usually goes on sale on GOG for like $1 and it's an absolute blast
I played it with disc through backwards compatible on the Xbox Series X even though it’s delisted, it works with a disc.
@@alkhoaja Yeah, if you can get the disc.
I had the Ps3 version but its pretty much locked to the console and runs at like 20fps. Gog included all DLC plus 4k support.
@@praisetheoak well here on Xbox, it got a FPS boost up to 60fps! Along with F.E.A.R. 2 and F.E.A.R. 3 and F.E.A.R. Flies!
F.E.A.R. is a forgotten gem dude.
is this crowbcat?
When graphic and physic increasing inversely proportional to each other
Games have become hilariously stagnant since about 2018.
2:05 oh yes, the crackdown music
Cool thing about F.E.A.R. is that the particle effects affect the AI too. If you can't see them, they also can't see you (or they fire blindly with low accuracy if they think you are pushing).
Modern games don't take that into account so the AI always have perfect vision.
Bullets have some kind of AI too. If you miss, bullet will randomly choose where to move.
Hahaaha 24 timer sound effect i love it
23:38 This was hilarious 😂
SR2 soundtrack man 😅
I feel vibes from Crowbcat
How to turn the passion into a hopeless job
Many modern games lack the atmosphere of older games. Make the graphics good enough, and then work on art design, atmosphere and gameplay features.
It’s so weird how companies with millions of dollars will make a cash grab or re release multiple versions of the same game. But some guy in a basement with just a computer can make a masterpiece of gaming!
No wonder why saints row 5 reboot is so much hated Big thanks to goofy ah Wxkeness
Games just dont have that "lived in" world feel anymore
that's why i still play older game but with mods to update the game that look in modern way .
I miss my days. Especially I played most 1990s - 2000s games
2010s (pre 2017): im a joke you?🤡
Modern AAA Games: Profits first, the moment it isn't profitable the cords are cut.
As soon as I saw your channel avatar and title. Easy like and sub
Was that footage of True Crime NYC filmed on the GameCube? That's the worst port, it's so much fun.
Sure was! Grew up playing that verison
Amazing experience, though, game was way ahead of its time.
i miss when games tried to push the limits in more ways than just your gpu usage
Modern gaming at its peak, at least for PC/Console. I also wonder if mobile (phone) games will eventually turn like this in especially we're in huge glimpse of mobile games revolution will come out from time to time now like Delta force, WZM, R6M, Arena Breakout, etc. like that
Also developers now predominately chinese who make great games, how the tables turned kinda sad seeing the future of gaming is fallen apart but on the bright side indies is on the rise. Btw im mostly on mobile gaming news so this is very interesting even tho i used to play on PC now switch on mobile since i dont want to sit for hours, also emulators were peak
I don't talk to people who make less than 6 figures 😂😂👌 bro the audacity
There was a time of experiments. Time of opportunity. Time of good games.
i miss the times when games had no microtransactions integrated in it
