Every submissive, male or female, tests the boundaries every now and then. This is when you must be very firm, or s/he will lose respect, which causes things to fall apart. Sometimes it's "I don't care" or "too bad" but NEVER "sorry".
Every relationship has a dominant/submissive, else it won't work. Call it a partnership if you will, then it's a senior/junior partner.
Wifey here: i love your take on this. Hubby has a video from a while back about punishments sucking with good reason. They need to be avoided and I need to be respected. Nobody respects the soft Wifey. A word, a small glance, and he knows where he stands. I am probably rare that I allow him to keep enough freedom to test the boundaries. Just like he doesn't want me to be weak, I don't want him to be a spineless simp. He has to be strong enough for me to want him in the first place.

What it's all about. Think of yourself as a clam-shell, within which clam/hubby feels safe, secure, protected. Every now and then, he must test the shell to be sure it's still firm. If firm, it reassures him and earns respect from him. Part of that shell is punishment. I can't resist saying that by hurting him, you're helping him. The obvious part is correcting bad behavior, the subtle part is the clam-shell.
The joke "spanking you will hurt me more than you" becomes true thusly; "NOT spanking you will hurt me more than you".;)
I never thought about the submissive needing respect, but you're right, both need to be respected, as well as delivering respect

How do you manage to stay so strict and methodical, instead of being lenient and hesitant to waste your energy? Do you position yourself to him not only as a commanding, but as a more disciplined person? (e.g. whether you yourself engage in behaviors that you scold him for)
Wifey here: that is a great question. I was a different person when we started this. I was not very assertive or demanding and realized pretty quickly that he would treat it as a kind of a kinky game. like "how can i get her to spank me like they do on the videos." Well, once i realized that, i started holding him accountable as you would with an employee or a child. The biggest difference is that i have more tools available with him than i would with an employee. On the flip side, i do have to hold myself above the fray a bit. I naturally don't engage in behaviors i scold him for. However, i also do not have to ask permission for things that he does. Recently, i was feeling a bit randy and had to go take care of myself. I have that freedom; he has to ask. i also have the freedom to call him in and help me take care of myself. He obeys. that's how we are structured. If i were to be overly harsh or cruel or mess up in some way, i would apologize if necessary and make amends. It doesn't mean he would spank me or anything like that, it just means i realize i made an error and fixed it. If he messes up, we have agreed to what his consequences are.
But overall, to your question, yes, i do act as a more disciplined person overall. That is actually my nature so it is not a challenge. If anything, i have to keep myself to a standard i believe in so i can hold him to a standard he should be striving to achieve.

Wifey here: if you follow our channel, this is a two way street with a long marriage. Hubby asked for this lifestyle and I agreed to it with reluctance and grew into the role. It's worked wonders for us. Love is never in doubt here from either of us.
Until I heard her side of things I starting to wonder if he was in an abusive relationship but after hearing her side of these incidents I totally understand why she did what she did. lol he should have a punishment wifey for omission of facts that he clearly left out leading us to think like that in the first place.
