Official result was to keep his first place, because the jockey was still holding the rein and not touching the ground at the finishing line

This happened in 1982 at Aqueduct as well, a horse broke down as it was crossing the wire in front, and was disqualified. Another horse did the same but it crossed first on a broken leg and was not disqualified; that horse was Emporias.

I'm just saying this I've lived next to a horse farm my whole life he races his horses and he races them in the professional races. Even the horses that take a huge gal and break a born are taken back and cared for they retire they move across the way to his game where his son lives where they live for the rest of there lives his horses never are put down unless the injuries are fatal. Yes some people put them down and yes sometimes horses break legs but the horses are loved and cared for!

You can clearly see in the slow motion while the horse is rolling that his front left leg is broken and likely the cause of his fall. They run these horses hard that sadly these 'blow out' injuries are common. So even if he did win the race, he lost his life doing so.

I love racing and have been working in race horse stables doing all things from mucking, grooming,to training but i will never get used to the whip mentality in some countries.. if you watch you will see the horse is in trouble a little wjile before it fell and the leg snapped/broke.. that horse must have run its heart out to manage that.. however i think they should lose the 1st place... kind of weird to see how diffrent the racing is in some other contries compared to norway and sweeden... i feel so bad for the horse and those who loved it but unless it had damage in that leg from prior actdents i dont see how it could have been prevented.. as for wether loosing 1st place or not-thats a tecnacatily and it comes down to regulationd in that contry where the race was held... glad it did not turn out to be a bigger accident with more horses, cause it could so easely have happened.... :/

Only when the last tree has died, the last lake has been poisoned, the last fish has been caught, and the last animal has gone extinct will we realize that we cannot eat money. We will realize all our mistakes. Something as simple as horse racing can even turn out to be a mistake.

+Frank Dioguardi depends on the rules - some may demand that the horse carry its weight the entire length of the race and in that case it would not be counted as a win. Even only if a weight slipped out of the saddle bag the ruling would be the same as if the jockey go thrown off

The fallen horse was leading well, so if I was the judge, I would say ''let him have the prize''- not that winning means much to a horse, the money part anyway. they like to be in the lead, though.

I love the comments about how the horses are treated like royalty. This industry is running horses whose bones aren't formed yet at full speed and want to talk about how great they treat them. These BABIES shouldn't even be at a full run yet and you all know it, so stop making excuses for your pathetic industry. Sure, you treat them wonderfully and when they don't come home from the track because you killed them, you just use their tack on the next horse. You tell yourself whatever you want so you can sleep at night; I know I wouldn't be able to.

an industry revolve around animals tend to go that way, these horses are breed to run, just like female chicken breed to be fried chicken, when they can't handle the overgrowth hormone, they become crippled, and can't eat properly therefore can grow into preferable weight, and the owner just make them into ground meat and sold at cheaper price than the chicken which manage into the slaughter house

In this case, the track seems to have a wet spot and the rider and horse still crossed the finish line first! I would give the win to them. And tell the owners to rectify the problem.

The first horse race of the season, race 1,1:00 P.M.,my first time seeing a race live, and there was a sheet of ice under the water on the track.Just as the horses hit the last turn,3 horses slipped and spun out of control. Throwing the jockeys hard on the ice.In which they spun and slid. Leaving nasty burn marks from the friction. All 3 horses, never
ran again, all were euthanized. Needless to say, this was my first racing experience. Later,I did become a jockey. Moved far away from that track.

Assuming this is in japan,... If the rules are the same there as US, the Jockey must maintain contact with the horse, as the horse crosses under the wire. Couldn't really see to tell if this jockey had held onto the reins or not. But this jock clearly had not maintaied contact with his mount. A very nasty spill on what appears to have been a very hard racing surface. What was the Officials ruling? I'm interested to know. If the racing rules are same as ours. I'd have to say, DQ.

Your comment was wrong. It is a sport. It happens. These horses WANT TO RUN. You would keep them in a stall to die prematurely from sadness. Do you cry when a baseball player gets hit by a pitch or that same horse breaks a leg on the farm running around? Maybe we should keep them in a 4x12 enclosure to keep them safe.

Steve S shows you have 0 horsemanship knowledge. If there's ANY word that stated how I would keep the horses locked up 24/7, then you should get reading glasses my friend.... I know there is a risk of a horse to break his leg anywhere but there is a 90% bigger risk to break it in this so called "sport". These horses HAVE to run because they're forced PLUS drugged, so that's why you think "they want to run". They're given all sort of stuff so they'd have more energy. Just search around the youtube or google and you'll see what is really going on. Things like this sicken me. I'm not pissed or anything close to it, just being real

I know. I see it all the time. horses fall when they run. They break down. They get hurt. And you know what? when they get better, they run their hardest again.

Rider is still on top of the horse -even airborne- and still holding harness. He only lands After the finish line, so technicaly speaking he hasn't dismounted horse till, both horse and rider, crossed the line. I'd rule him winner. Even if i'd have to add some sentiment of JUSTICE in my call.
Besides; he DID win the race ..
Asking for a DQ is simply wrong.

I am so glad the horse got back up! And @Vaettra... Restarted language, really? It's their language, so don't comment. Anyway, they probably think English is weird....sounds to us are words to them and vise versa

Jockey has to be on the horses back when they cross the wire to win the race. This jockey wasn't anymore so he probably didn't win.

In certain countries they mostly end up in slaughter if they have become suddenly non-productive through injury. It is not cost effective to just keep them. There are few buyers for permanently lame horses. If the country does not have a good hunter/jumper or dressage or trail riding industry, there is just no more use for the horse.

I would say Keep the first place. he would of won anyways even if he had stayed on all fours. And it clearly shows he was over the line before the other horse. But since the Jockey was not mounted when crossing the finish line he would of been disqualified.

The jockey can be in the air. This happened in melb a couple of years back the horse jumped over the shadow of the finish line pushing the jockey into the air. He still had hold of the reigns and was declared a runner and won it coz he was still intact going past the line.

The horse while falling, still crossed the finish line first, therefore is clearly the winner.

LookED like a fantastic runner. He snapped a front leg, probably was put down immediately with an injury like that. I bet the horse had a problem before the race, and the trainer knew it. Happens all the time Injured horses get doped up with legal or illegal pain meds, raced, and they break down. Its a wonder the jockeys don't just plain refuse to ride, until punishments for this are much more severe than they are now.

My apologies if you misunderstood me, mate but here was no offence taken and I hope there was none the other way. I was just clarifying a point for you. You are right though...we should have universal rules in racing, or as close as we can get to them, but I think it's a long, long way off. (Especially between jurisdictions such as Hong Kong/Australia etc and Japan/Europe etc.)

No need to apologize! Nice to be corrected when I've made an assumption as I had!. But it's still all Greek to me! I'd not be able to tell the difference between Cantonese, Japanese, or Chinese from one another.
Universal rules is the only way to go in racing I think, but as you say, it's likely a long way off before we see it happen. What a shame that is too! Been in this industry for more than 40 yrs. and know first hand, changes don't happen quickly in the horse racing biz.. Best of Luck!

The jockey must STAY on his horse to win !! ....hope he and the poor horse came out ok, I think the jockey was on him too high, around the horse's neck and that may have been why that happen ?

Poor horse was going so well and would have won, if the jockey had stopped whipping it without giving it a chance to respond. I hope the jockey got a very lengthy ban.

From what I know in the past, some horses, and I'm not saying every single horse, gets injected with steroids. They stick their legs in ice water to reduce swelling. Many have to have surgery because they pulled a muscle. But I'm not saying every horse is treated like this. Some horses are lucky to have a wonderful trainer, while others.... should burn in hell.

Sorry, have to disagree. I see the cannon bone was snapped and caused the horse to fall. The horse gets up and moves on 3 legs, but front left is waving around loose. Snapped. The horse was likely euthanized on the track before the next race. What race was this? Sad, but this does happen at races. Even this year at the Preakness there was a horse who had leg snap, then another collapsed after winning from heart giving out.

the jockey push the horse into sprinting mode too early and keep pushing it into finish line...the horse can't handle it anymore, the jockey beat stick that might hit the leg only make it worse,
