Just brought an ATAS for my FT891 for quick /M deploy, can't wait to try it out. Thanks for posting, its great RX practice for me for non VK callsigns. 73 from VK3
Mornin Aaron - another nice one -- i picked out a call sign there that is very familiar to me - WD4AWD and i have close to 100 contacts hunting his POTA activations - thanks for sharing - u may be chilly but its a blizzard up here lol 73 dit dit
Great setup. I love my FT-891. How high a power level can us do with little the 10 AH battery I saw in one of your other videos? I keep a 36 AH LiFePO4 in my truck which is overkill for most activations. My 891 draws almost 15 amps key down at 100 watts so most of the little batteries need to handle that maximum unless you reduce power. My 891 draws 10 amps key down at 40 watts out. I do almost 100% CW at fairly low power levels. We have worked a few times on 30 meters. 73, de N4DJ
Thank you! I typically run 50 watts. My 10Ah battery has a max current draw of 15 amps so that keeps it well under. I want to get one of the Bioenno 12Ah which has a max continuous of 20 amps and pulse of 40 amps for 2 seconds. That would give a little more flexibility while still keeping a small form factor. Either way, 10 Ah lasts a good couple of hours activating which is plenty for me. Thanks for the contacts and look forward to getting in your log again! 73
@@w4arb I think a 12 AH that can do 20 continuous might be just perfect compromise for weight/size/ and capacity. I have 6 AH one for QRP that was much too small for a larger rig unless that large rig was my K3 dialed back to 10 watts! So I got a 36AH for camping and the truck. I need to get as small as I can to carry it longer distances so the 12 AH looks like it would do what I want. Thanks!
Love getting in there before the pile up ensues! Thanks for filming yet another activation... Great listening... 73
Thanks for the contact! We need to do some more rag chewin’. 73!
@@w4arb mornin Spencer - i heard that call sign and thot i know that one lol 73
Those are some serious rails on the side of the 891!
I know right? They’re obnoxious and I love it. 😂

You gotta try activating with a bug
Heeeeeck naw. I can do a cootie, but a bug is a struggle for me still 😂
@@w4arb me too
couldnt hear you at all today
The conditions seemed a little weak today. I should have moved to 20m, but my hands were freezing haha. I’ll probably be out again tomorrow morning.
