it's been frustrating watching some of your recent excellent videos as the features are still not showing up on my Excel version. I have Microsoft 365 Apps for business, it is up to date (i.e. when I click Update Now, it says You're up to date), yet I still don't have the new checkmark function, nor the AI suggested tables from this video.
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub It's like not only are the presents under the tree, but you've told us what's in the boxes, and yet we can't play with them. And we don't even know when Xmas is!
I'll have to try this at a later date. Definitely does not access the web as expected/shown in this video. How did you bypass the credentialling step of getting data from the web?
Most websites don't require credentials to load a page, so I didn't cover it. If it requires authentication, you'd have to choose the appropriate option at the "Access Web content" dialog box after entering the URL.
It's difficult to automate something when you can't predict the new pages with certainty. I'd say in this case you'd have to edit your query to add the new page names. Assuming they aren't date driven and can be automatically added to the list.
If you can predict what those page names will be e.g. they're date related, then you can automatically update your list based on the current date, or current date minus n days. If you can't predict the new pages names, then you'd have to manually update the query each day.
@MyOnlineTrainingHub Hi, I have another question. If a website uses an ASPX to list their information, can power query still trawl the page for info? E.g. if I want to download the list of active P. Engineer from this page below: www.peb.gov.sg/pe_general_pe.aspx Thanks again for your advice.
I'm not familiar with ASPX. You'd have to give it a try and see, but having looked at the website, I doubt it. Might be better to see if they have an API you can use. More on getting started with APIs in Power Query here: ruclips.net/video/2mR44X7PrRo/видео.html
I’m interested in fabric specs from big suppliers like Linwood. When I select a url I only see the document in the Navigator screen. When I import, I can expand embedded tables but they only contain meta data, no detail. Am I doing anything wrong? How can I check I have the latest Excel release? You’re the best Mynda ❤️
Glad you'll be able to make use of this feature. I think it's still being rolled out. You might have to wait a week or two. There's nothing in the documentation from Microsoft about version restrictions, but usually it takes some time for everyone to get the new features.
What can you do if the website requires a sign in? I record figures from account balances at my brokerage. Currently I sign in and copy the page with the desired information into a page in excel then use a vba program to transform the data and insert it into a different sheet with the current date, keeping subsequent dates in new columns. Today I opened Microsoft edge browser, signed into the brokerage site, viewed the page with the data, launched excel then pasted the URL. The Excel navigator stalled for a good while then the website must have refreshed in the background offering to open an account because the navigator showed an option to open an account or sign up in the web view pane. Any suggestions welcome.
You can enter basic authentication information at the 'Access web content' dialog box that appears after entering the URL. Choose 'Basic' and enter your username and password. However, if it requires a captcha or similar, it won't work.
Looks amazing. Unfortunately my Excel version does not contain this. I do use 365. If I am going to input the URL you used only the table Document shows up in the PQ editor.
Fantastic. Maybe now I can stop transforming html as text. Problem is, even though I have the most recent version, I still don't even have python for Excel available. Not sure why.
Thank you! I expect so, but with Office 2024 coming out next year, it may have it, but it will never be available in Excel 2021 or earlier as those versions don't get updates.
Thank you, just one more thing, would this be backwards compatible, if i created a worksheet using these features, would they work in say Excel 2019 or 2021 if I was to distribute it to someone not using 365?
The user with the earlier version of Excel can open the file and work with the data Power Query loads to a table, but they cannot refresh the query to get updates from the website.
In some cases, yes. It depends how the password is set up and if it has a captcha on it. You can enter credentials at the "access web content' dialog box and then choose 'Basic'.
This is really cool, but such a shame it still can't see the entirety of paginated stuff with JS. I have a use case that's crying out for that but I guess I'm going to have to keep manually copying and pasting (yuck).
Hi, looks really fantastic, but I can't get it to work as the page I try to load into Power Query stops at a question if I accept cookies, is there any setting I need to do?
Try opening the web page in Google Chrome and Edge first. Accept the cookies and then go back to Power Query. You might have to restart Excel. No guarantee this will work, but worth a try.
The documentation doesn't mention specific SKUs, just that it's available in 365 in Excel for Windows. Perhaps you just need to update. If you're on the monthly update channel, you should get it.
Not really unfortunately, because Python inside Excel cannot reach outside of it like you normally can with Python, so you won't be able to use it to scrape websites. Python in Excel is only good for analysing data already inside it. You would still have to use Power Query to bring the data in.
How I can do this in excel: Have two excel file(new & old) and want to extract the data from new file which doesn't exist in old file(multiple rows). For that have to use two column to identify uncommon data because both column had same value but can identify from seeing both column values. Appreciate you help on this.
Great to hear. My videos on RUclips don't follow a logical path for learning Power Query. Better to take my course: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-power-query-course
I'm using the beta channel. It should have rolled out to the current channel, but I think there's a hold up with it. Hopefully, it won't be too far away.

One area in which PQ is lacking is the non-generic authentication. I hope one day this will change.
Yes, there are so many different types of authentication, it'd be nice to be able to handle any scenario with PQ.
Why when I try this, am I not seeing a column saying 25% applied at checkout , yet your example captured the discount amount shown.?

Can it do this with pdf at all?
Yes, Power Query can handle PDF files.
