Thanks so much for helping to bring his super-virtuosic etudes to a wider recognition and appreciation !!! We are much indebted to you for the time and energy you have expended to bring about this wonderful performance !!!
I would be happy to purchase your albums after you record all 60 etudes. That's roughly 500 pages of sheet music there, that's a tough one but I look forward to hearing more from you.
Also, to drive more viewers to your videos, it would be good to include as many relevant 'tags' or keywords as possible when uploading them to RUclips.
No, spotify is not good for artists like me because we can't earn a decent money for our work. So I would not allow my work to be there too. Anyway the CDs with the full set of Etudes will be available at some point this year by Acte Prealable! (Finally!)
If you’re talking about the beginning, he just uses the fingering that Mereaux indicates. A lot of people ignore that beginning melody and how it should be played.
Dear 4candles, Unfortunately not. All my projects are subjected to sponsorship, if someone pay for a video then I can do it, if not, I have no other way. The problem is that recording sound is far less expensive than making a video here in Brazil (almost 10 times more expensive) and even the audio recording is expensive to me If I would have to pay myself. So, unless I have a request and sponsorship for a professional video, there is nothing I can do by myself in this sense. Also, it is nice to explain I can NOT work for free. Artists also needs to eat and live. Inspiration and sunlight are not the sufficient, and being an "youtuber" of classical music is only for the ones who does not need to worry about the debts in the end of the month - that means I would need to be inside the "Mafia of the big concerts", which is not the case, as everyone can see, or have been birth in a golden cradle, and by the way, the public of classical music is quite small and uninterested in less known repertoire - most of them are zombies of classical magazines/radios/forums and have no real personal opinions and/or interest in research more than what is available in the mainstream (just read what is written in forums like talkclassical or pianostreet and you will notice the most part of them (not all) are useless and obtuse people. And remember, I'm from Brazil, here there is no classical market, even my own CDs are not possible to find for buying here, there is only a small "mafia" which obviously is of no use to me even if I am the most humble and talented person in the world. Also, I don't see why I should waste my time for making videos which barely can have 1000 views after one year - as you can see I'm not monetizing my videos and, if I do so, the result would be ridiculous. (how many cents/year? I really prefer do not know it) On the other hand, each time I have a rare chance to play in a recital, people are able to check my playing and "see" what I'm doing - this is why my documentary was possible in 2013 - it was a result of several possibilities during several years. On the other hand, I do not see a nice future for classical music. The big recording companies are destroying the art with hundreds of "more of the same" and money rules everything. Public in general are total ignorants, and they can only discuss how many versions they have of the same middle-level of interpretation of a single work. While I can barely survive in such world, any idiot can easily live making grimaces while playing an insipid interpretation of a piece of music just in order to make his own marketing with the help of governments and politics, or in case of some women, using as less dress as possible and using the piano to act as a prostitute of 1950's movies making the sound become the less noticed "thing" in the theater . Sorry, I can't take this world seriously nor I can respect this. Well, the good news is that I'm trying to find a FREE place with a DECENT piano to make a video recording of a Sorabji work. I'm almost 6 months trying to find, with no luck, a decent place for such recording, but again, I'm living in a place where this is far from an easy task. Also, even not related to what you just asked, it is a nice moment to explain to all the people who could be interested, I'm NOT open to any kind of critics in any sense, because criticize is quite easy, specially on internet, and sincere help is the most rare thing in the world. So, I do all my projects, my mistakes and my art dedicated to my wife, my two cats and for the ones who are able to enjoy such art - and these "ones" are always welcome to get in touch. My helpers are always rewarded with the best I can. The ones who could be in disagreement will be "deleted" as soon as noticed here and there, and they can complaint to the nearest wall they find, of course. Sorry for the "outflow", but sometimes it is necessary... and thanks for all your quite interesting posts All the best Artur Cimirro
It's clear you have strong feelings about the world of commercial music and the current state of classical music-making and consumption. I don't think it is all bad news. As you suggest yourself, the general case is that the future seems to look bleak for classical music, but artists like yourself (and there are many like you) are slowly waking up to the full riches of the piano repertoire and are learning, playing, programming, recording less-familiar works (when time, money and responsibilities permit). What part of Brazil do you live in? I would imagine a lot of the churches/chapels would have decent instruments. Could this be an avenue without having to pay (much) money? Or any music schools that wouldn't demand payment? Regarding video-making, amateur videos (using phones) are frequently made for RUclips and therefore inexpensive. But it is up to the individual. I look forward to the Sorabji. Music that is difficult to get to the heart of and play convincingly! Best wishes.
First of all, I don't see many like me around, sorry if this sound arrogant, but you need mention someone who make compositions, transcriptions, deep research of repertoire, recording of rare repertoire, write theory books, organize competitions, publish interviews with other composers, write articles about art, teach history and philosophy, be an "open person" to others, etc - and that is just an abstract of what I do in this wild forest of art. So, this kind of observation can only be made once someone know all the work I have been involved in. Yes, I know there are pianists playing new repertoire here and there, some make a few compositions or transcriptions, and that's all. My work is far bigger than just recording unknown repertoire, and it is up to the interested ones to check my website to see the difference. (You can listen to this in order to understand my lack of respect with the pseudo-specialists and famous ones: opusdissonus.com.br/CIMIRRO_studio-master-class_001.htm ) I'm meritocratic, and although it was not necessarily the "right position" for some people years ago, it is the only acceptable form of dialogue with me. I do not believe in equality of rights for unequal people, and I'm tired of the marxist speeches. I live in the southeast part, and here churches and chapels have no pianos as most part of Brazil, there are some american churches not far from here which hold old upright pianos of terrible quality, and so it is of no use at all, and often you must be of their religion to be accepted to use it for free or you need to offer to pay - there are no "good souls" here as one could expect. Anyway, amateur video is for amateur musicians. if someone make an amateur recording of a concert of mine, that's ok. But I'll not make amateur videos myself. That means working for free and it is a bad marketing once you are not in the big market. (of course, if you are in the big market there is no problems in making any amateurish video, but it is not the same for cases like mine - it becomes a terrible marketing) And as I expected to have answered earlier, I see no motives for working for free for people who do not care for what I'm doing or how I am living. So, making more videos is useless. The interested ones must pay for what they want. I need to pay if I want rice and beans daily. I have no interest at all in making several videos. I want to make one with one piece by Sorabji, that's all for now. And no, I have no smartphone, this is possible only for people who have rights in front of the brazilian government, that's not my case. I have no rights here today. I'm from the social class that every personal step done needs to pay a tax to keep the rights of the smartphone's users. So, please do not talk to me about making more than what I have been doing unless this can be sponsored. Artists can not survive only by the applause, the lights and "views" of his/her work. After all I'm not really interested in such things anymore. I love art and do what I can/want. People who expect free art are not "my public". If you really want to continue such discussion, please write me an e-mail, and I will be happy to answer, but I have no interest at all in keep such discussion on youtube - this is not a place for such speech. ;-) All the best Artur Cimirro
Yes, it is. My intention is to make a video in a decent piano of the 2nd Movement only, and I'm working to record the full piece in some CDs. Indeed a very large work.
Hi, I'm an upcoming Pianist-Composer-Arranger-Transcriber too Nice to meet another person with such an, unfortunately rare, passion for music... I play since only 4 years and started with 16 (I heard you started with 14?) Do you have any tips for warmup exercises before playing? Just asking so I could completely avoid injuries and perfect my technique :D PS: Extremely well played, this piece extraordinarily difficult!
I understand Covid got in the way of the release, any idea when it will be released? I have been waiting years for your recording, this is the best interpretation of this piece!
Please send your request by e-mail as mentioned in the Youchoose Music Project at this link: opusdissonus.com.br/youchoose.htm send the e-mail and follow the rules you read there, then I study and make a recording of the requested works :-)
Actually there are some quite interesting works in Czerny output, unfortunately many people only play the same Etudes while learning piano and never pay attention to other works by him. So rarely we have a good recording of his most interesting pieces. Personally I love some of his Sonatas, specially the f minor Op.57. Many people want to hear the music, but few are interested in paying for the research/study/recording of this... well, at least I can listen while I play. ;-)
Very nice job! Love that you actually observed the pedal markings, it's a different piece that way
Nice play!
Best possible compliment. Be proud, Artur.

Just goes to show what dedicated practice can achieve! Bravo for this 'Bravura'!

these etudes are much in the same vein as alkan...it seems the french conposers at the time were into composing in the extremes😂

Bravo!👏👏👏👏👏👏💖
how is this so good
Essa performance pra mim é um padrão, realmente admiro seu trabalho e dedicação
Is there a tentative release date yet? Thanks!

Are you using the middle pedal?
If you’re talking about the beginning, he just uses the fingering that Mereaux indicates. A lot of people ignore that beginning melody and how it should be played.
This score would look so much better written in 4 staves! Just like Rachmaninoff's c#minor prelude
Awesome rendition!
I don't suppose there is a video of you playing this during recording takes?
