Baby Monster actually means babies with monster talents and monster vocals. They can do any genre of music. 7 singers, 7 rappers, 7 visuals, 7 dancers and 7 aces. Chiquita is 15yo and her stage presence is genius . She was the final piece of the Baby Monster jigsaw which YG on her discovery and with less than a year into YG training, YG finally launched Baby Monster.. This is a b side song on their Drip album so usually will offer a different side of their usual hard hitting YG style of music. So you will noticed that YG groups in their albums will most likely have a crowd hype type of music as their title track like DRIP and Sheesh, but will always have a ballad, and chill vibey song, and fan chant song as their b-sides. This is also the same with BP, BB, Treasure, iKon, etc2. But each group will also have their own flavors. So I dont think its a gripe, plus theyre still considered a rookie so imo its good that they’re exploring different genre. I think with Blackpink you were hearing the Identity of Teddy. In the Netflix special it was revealed that Teddy is the mastermind of Blackpink. They had alot of songs that were bought by YG and Teddy himself wanted a special sound for Blackpink, hence it was limited to the choices that he deemed worthy. The girls went to the studio to record their parts, and many times Jennie, Lisa, Rosé and Jisoo wanted to release more songs, but Teddy didnt. That is the reason most Blackpink songs have the same pattern and sound. Now with Babymonster, Teddy has left to form his own agency The BlackLabel. Leaving only Choice37 to be the head producer. Choice37 is different and he listens to the girls more than Teddy would. Choice37 is more like a father figure and he encourages the girls to speak their mind and be more proactive in their music making. Also of note, YG takes a hands on approach to Babymonster, you see him checkin in on the girls in the Behind the Scenes footage. What you see with Babymonster is a different set of rules than 2NE1 and Blackpink, they are being handled differently and Asa is a huge beneficiary of the new system. At the age of 18, Asa is allowed to write lyrics and jump into the producer chair and learn the craft. I like that Babymonster doesn't have a distinctive sound. They are rookies and they can learn and experiment a little. So far, the most distinctive sound for me are Rami's vocals (undeniable talent) and the rap from RukAsa (they are my favorite rap duo)

Her looks and cuteness steal attention but really, the girl can sing sing. Regarding there identity, I think they will always be diverse in the music they put out. The have so strong vocalist. It would be a shame not to let them shine in different settings. The rap line is very unique too so yeah, rap / hip hop / yg will always be part of them of course

Nahh, the thing is some people just being confidently too comfy about their self perception about yg artists only known for their hip-hop edge, as if any slower songs can't be linked to their names 😅, which sometimes those can be seen kinda weirdly understanable, especially since yg songs does predominantly strong on hip hop culture but honestly tho, by each time passed, it's becoming poorly mistaken when it gets to the point where people genuinely thought that yg artist aren't fit for any of less hip hoppy songs Idk man, i have mixed up feelings about this subject but one thing that i can say for sure is that either BABYMONSTER or just any yg artists in general isn't and would never be strictly bounded only to a certain sound/genre, just sayin🤞
