That looked pretty good to me. Cast iron skillets are great. I used to have one that belonged to my grandmother. I gave it to my nephew, since he is an aspiring chef. I felt like it needed to be used more. And the main reason was to make sure it stayed in the family. This made me hungry, so now I'm going to go get something to eat :)
I'm happy every time I hear young people are cooking :) My niece is very good too! And you probably need a glass of wine with your dinner after that nailbiter of a game you just watched :)))
I cooked my first ever skirt steak by myself thanks to you & it was delicious! I added a small amount of oil beforehand (cause that’s how my mom did it growing up) & decided to let it cook for a few more minutes on each side for a more well done steak. 😋
That’s so wonderful! I like the crunchy edges when I cook it a bit longer - so delicious! I’m happy for you and thank you for taking the time to come back and comment!
Made this for dinner today and it so good. Everyone at the table wanted the recipe. What a surprise when I told them how easy it was to prepare. Thanks for sharing.
Just love how she made it so easy peazy!! I was searching for a quick recipe and so many were like 20 minutes this and 20 minutes that!!! I'm no chef just someone who wants to cook her meat without turning it into leather. 😧Thank you!!! 👍
I think you will love it. Just be careful with the ventilation because it does get smoky. I just made it 2 days ago for a salad, too. So good! Thank you for watching!
Is this the first time I'm seeing you use a cast iron pan in a video? Video idea, showing how you season a cast iron pan. I've heard of many people sanding down their new lodge pans and then seasoning them. When new, they are a bit course. Estate sales are also a good place to find old cast iron thats smooth and well seasoned.
Hello! I actually have quite a few videos using the cast iron skillet, including one on seasoning it 😊 ruclips.net/p/PLExtnhBai_NvmTe8MLcUCnmqUmMqKpSxA 😊 Thank you for watching and I hope you have a great week 😊
its beyond easy to season your own pans. Just takes time which most people don't want to deal with nor have the time. I only cook in cast iron and that goes for everything! Really easy to clean after also!
I liked the video and it was straight to the point….the only thing I would of done differently is added a touch of oil to the pan to give you a better crust, other then that great job 👍🏻
I grew up cooking steaks like this. Gotta have a good fan over stove or an open kitchen window for sure. It works best with a large sized pan and a gas burner. It can be done over electric but never seems to get as hot and takes a while to heat up.
I agree! Need good ventilation and gas it’s always better. It took me over a year to get used to the electric burners in this house. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for this awesome video! Concise yet informative. My steak came out delicious too and it only took 10 mins tops for two pieces. Make sure to use oil when frying though. I used a non stick spray and nearly smoked out my entire apt lol. Steak was still flavorful though!
I like the way you did that skirt steak with just salt and high heat can't believe how much flavor stays in those steaks they're awesome thank you Kim m u r a i n e muraine
I cooked both of mine at the same time but still the correct amount of time for each side cuz my pan was big enough and I basted mine with butter and garlic and seasoned mine with salt and pepper currently resting for 10 mins
Thank you Sophia! I am starting to like skirt steak better than actual ribeye steak. It is a very easy cut to cook and toss on a salad. Thank you for your comment! I appreciate it!
Ok The skirt steak was on sale so I bought it, I only really truly enjoy steak ifits grilled, I have a nice cast Iron skillet I salted the meat, + a little wee bit of Sazon because I like the color it gives... Wish me luck I have both kitchen windows wide open In cold NYC ... I will report back
@@AnOldSchoolHome I cannot thank you enough! It was Delish, I need to invest in a good steak knife I ended up using kitchen shears 😂, also my steak had a lot of fat on one side so it curled up a bit should I have trimmed that off? I just used a spatula to flatten it out.. My sides were a good baked potato + asparagus with lemon and feta
That’s fantastic! Thank you so much for coming back to let me know!!! No need to trim the fat - I do the same thing - just hold it flat if it starts to curl. And your sides sound so delicious, too! I’ve never had asparagus with fete (my favorite cheese) - will definitely try it! Thank you!
Hello, I do not use either as I want the “grille” taste but you can definitely use avocado or olive oil and not heat up the pan as much. Thank you for watching!
You don't use and kind of oil or tallow? I'm surprised the meat didn't stick to the pan. Unfortunately i can't cook a steak in a skillet without oil or tallow. Without one of those things it creates waaay too much smoke. My kitchen at home doesnt have a professional/industrial ventilation system. Cooking like that the smoke would travel through the house. Aside from the smoke being irritating to the eyes and lungs. It has tiny particulate matter that gets in the carpet fiber, curtains and the furniture.
Hello! Yes, when I cook in the cast iron pan, I do not use oil; I just wait for the pan to heat up very well. And yes, if you don’t have ventilation system, the smoke could cause trouble. Thank you for watching!
her pan is seasoned very well so no need for oil. Try cooking with grapeseed oil. High burn point. That's the wonderful thing about cast irons. If seasoned properly they cook without any oil or butter! just amazing.
An Old School Home can all steaks be cooked without butter/oil? I live in an apartment with poor ventilation and am trying to find ways to get a good medium rare without lots of smoke.
I totally understand! Try this recipe - I use it in the summer when it’s way too hot here in Arizona to stay out by the grill. ruclips.net/video/h-lRCbEHooc/видео.html
you have to season your cast irons. When first bought wash with just water, dry pan well. put oven at 350. Buy grapeseed oil and coat entire pan with it, inside and out. Than place pan upside down inside oven and leave for hour and half. Let cool down 100% oil again oven again for another 1:30. I did this 4 times with all my pants. You wont have any more cracked pans. Find a high burning oil though or you'll smoke out your kitchen. Which is why I use grapeseed. No need to have it dripping off pan, just wipe it down. If you put to much it will fall off pan and drop to bottom of oven and cause smoke. To prevent this 100% add foil to your bottom rack so oil will drip there and not base of oven. Good luck! don't give up these pans truly change the cooking game.
