    That looked pretty good to me. Cast iron skillets are great. I used to have one that belonged to my grandmother. I gave it to my nephew, since he is an aspiring chef. I felt like it needed to be used more. And the main reason was to make sure it stayed in the family. This made me hungry, so now I'm going to go get something to eat :)

    Is this the first time I'm seeing you use a cast iron pan in a video? Video idea, showing how you season a cast iron pan. I've heard of many people sanding down their new lodge pans and then seasoning them. When new, they are a bit course. Estate sales are also a good place to find old cast iron thats smooth and well seasoned.

    You don't use and kind of oil or tallow? I'm surprised the meat didn't stick to the pan. Unfortunately i can't cook a steak in a skillet without oil or tallow. Without one of those things it creates waaay too much smoke. My kitchen at home doesnt have a professional/industrial ventilation system. Cooking like that the smoke would travel through the house. Aside from the smoke being irritating to the eyes and lungs. It has tiny particulate matter that gets in the carpet fiber, curtains and the furniture.

      An Old School Home can all steaks be cooked without butter/oil? I live in an apartment with poor ventilation and am trying to find ways to get a good medium rare without lots of smoke.

      I totally understand! Try this recipe - I use it in the summer when it’s way too hot here in Arizona to stay out by the grill. ruclips.net/video/h-lRCbEHooc/видео.html

    I bought a brand new cast iron for this. I turned it to high heat like you said and the pan broke right away.

    • @melissasirois3467

      you have to season your cast irons. When first bought wash with just water, dry pan well. put oven at 350. Buy grapeseed oil and coat entire pan with it, inside and out. Than place pan upside down inside oven and leave for hour and half. Let cool down 100% oil again oven again for another 1:30. I did this 4 times with all my pants. You wont have any more cracked pans. Find a high burning oil though or you'll smoke out your kitchen. Which is why I use grapeseed. No need to have it dripping off pan, just wipe it down. If you put to much it will fall off pan and drop to bottom of oven and cause smoke. To prevent this 100% add foil to your bottom rack so oil will drip there and not base of oven. Good luck! don't give up these pans truly change the cooking game.

    Soy Mexicano and I don’t marinate my meats thank you. It’s derived from a French word which means to pickle or brine. Then came marinate in English.
    Not Mexican dishes. We prefer open flame. Bye!

    Salt is salt - kosher or whatever. Once you've salted the food and eat it you won't be able to tell if it's sea salt, kosher salt, common table salt or any other kind. So, just buy cheapest table salt and use it. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN TASTE.

    • @AnOldSchoolHome
      @AnOldSchoolHome  Год назад

      Yes, no difference in taste, but difference in the amount you can allow yourself to use to pack the meat. Thank you for watching!

      There are different kinds of salt. Table salt is mined and more chemicals are needed to process it. Sea salt is made on farms where seawater is evaporated.
