Consumer Protection Act, 1986: This act was passed to protect consumers from unfair trade practices, and defective goods, and services. It also established consumer councils and other authorities to settle consumer disputes.
Consumer Protection Act, 2019: This act was enacted to establish authorities to settle consumer disputes and protect consumer interests.
Other laws: Other laws that protect consumers include the Indian Contract Act, the Sale of Goods Act, the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, the Standards of Weights and Measures Act, and the Monopolies & Restrictive Trade Practices Act.
Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA): The CCPA deals with class action matters.
National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC): The NCDRC has jurisdiction over complaints valued at more than two crore.
