I appreciate your brand. You’re open-minded, non-offensive and smart enough to venture into frags beyond the boundaries of the manipulated contemporary trends. Thank you for not casually using negative language concerning anyone or anything over 30. Too many of these young reviewers are very stupid with their language and perspective.
The older bottles were beyond beast mode. And more anamalic than Kouros. the castoreum was insane. It used to last until the next day and the castoreum would choke out a lover if Lapidus.
I have the first formula back from when it was still called Boss by Hugo Boss (before it became Number One) and that one easily gets Lapidus level of longevity, easily 8 hours on me. Compared to the current-ish formula (the one you have, I don't know those newest modern bottles) it just smells way more intense and that Honey note is amped UP. Love it in the vintage formula, like it in the current one. Cheers.
The older is better, the mid range bottles are good too but the brand new bottles with silver cap suck and are not just weak for being boss number one but weak in general. Even weaker than most light blue fragrances. Also they didn't change the formula right when it said number one. The early bottles after they switched to saying number one were the same. A few years later came the mid range bottles which are still decent. New ones ,as I said suck and are 75% water with 25% fragrance..or at least that how they smell.
I have a new version of this Boss (silver cap). Still can't choose which I like the most: Boss number one or Azzaro pour homme. Probably depends of my mood, something I can't describe or realise (yet). Azzaro is more "in your face" and kind of badass, but still has something noble in it. Boss is more gentle and sort of convincing. They both are my most favourite fragrances ever. To have the most out if these fragrances (newer versions), after first sprays, give them some time to lay down, away from sun or any light (couple weeks will be ok).
I have a vintage 50ml bottle and it last very long on my skin. The patchouli-honey that this fragrance have makes me think of givenchy Gentleman classic. But much more settle and less animalic. I also have vintage bottles of that one and i can enjoy both of them.
Good job! Wore it a ton in the 80's and early 90's. I have the same formulation you do; it smells great and is a good trip down memory, lane but not quite the scent it was in the olden days...like many back then you didn't dare overspray!
I just bought "Scents of South Jersey: The Original Soundtrack." I love the haunting piano track, but my favorite is Kelan's duet with Enrique Iglesias on "Shitting on Zino." Well done, bruh.
I really like this fragrance, it was one of my favourite in my youth. Luckily I got a vintage bottle first formula without "Number One", because back in the day's it's the first fragrance by Hugo Boss. I like both, the newer and the vintage formula. The vintage is deeper and darker with a more animalic honey note. Because of my memories, I really love it 🥰👌🏼
My Girlfriend at the time bought this one for me as a gift ... back in the day it was call Hugo no number 1 added ... and that's it, cause they didn't have any other frags. I liked it but didn't love it ... Definitely was Stronger than today's form. In those times ... (late 80's) My scent was Paco Rabanne Pour Homme which today Unfortunately also a shadow of itself.
I actually really like the current Paco Rabanne pour Homme, I have had old vintage and I have a late 90’s bottle which is incredible better than any really old bottle because those were always sort of turned. But the current I still think is nice plus it’s still being made which is a plus i think
I love it very business friendly. In the Givenchy Gentleman 1974 or modern version --family --you will like the subdued honey in the latter which is total class imho.
I am selling my bottle along with a vintage aftershave splash, you can buy it right off my Mercari page…I put the link in this comment www.mercari.com/u/385123230
Coty’s batch code is among the easiest to decipher. 9135 = May 15, 2019. 9 is the year and 135 represents the 135th day of. 2019. I’d like to see them add a formula code like L’Oreal’s and Dior’s. Without it, one has to compare the ingredients on later boxes closely to determine reformulations.
I was gonna pick up this Hugo Boss number 1 because of the video you made prior to this one about it, saying it has the wow factor and that it was the best out of the line. But in this video you said you wouldn't even replace it. I guess your view must of changed on it over time. Happens.
They did change on this one, boss number one was probably one of the first classics I got back in 2019, it’s good but as I have really grown to love green fougere fragrances the strong honey note in this became a bit much for me and I know that’s why I stopped wearing it for so long
Do you have any recommendations for a good aromatic fougere to wear for this fall? Like something you'd wear a lot in the fall season? Was thinking of trying Pour Lui. Thanks Kelan.
Hello again. Agree with you here. I do, however, consider Boss Number One a classic scent of the 80's. Do I wear it a lot? Not really. It's Uber masculine, soapy, I do get the Lapidus but also Aramis vibes as well. I do like it when I smell it, but it's just not a natural go to (when the notes blend it's beautiful, when they are separate: piss and honey). I think the older I get the more I will wear it. Also, this should be in any fragrance enthusiasts collection.
Since they made a newer version with the silver cap does that mean they’re gonna discontinue this one? because I refuse to smell the new one I know it’s not gonna smell the same just watered down like they do every other popular fragrance I don’t understand why companies do that but I really enjoy the old version mine is half full but I have a back up bottle.
I tried the old Boss no 1 from one of my colleagues but it hit my nose very hard but also it smells nice I hope the new version is nicer and less powerful in the initial blast.@3ofus135
I burned through a bottle several years ago and enjoyed it very much. Then I discovered Balenciaga Ho Hang Club....wow! It's like hearing your little sister play a nice song on piano then hearing a concert pianist play it. Balenciaga took the musical score of Boss #1 and added a bunch of ruffles and flourishes to it in a most masterful way. Sadly, it's been discontinued. Try to score a bottle...you won't regret it.
Smells like Gordon Gekko from the movie Wall Street. 80's, hair slicked back Wall Street vibes. Mine borders on beast mode ... early to mid 90's bottle.
Haha I always pictured gekko rocking the scent “ Wall Street” by Victor not just because of the name but the intense 80’s green and leather combo like his office lol
Lol I loved that one in highschool when I got it as a gift but I can’t wear it now it’s just not my style anymore, I got it for nostalgia more than anything but it’s up for sale now lol
You have it a 9 out of 10 for scent before so I'm thinking you may have gotten bored of it... That happens with some fragrances . But honestly try a really old bottle, they are so strong and skanky. More anamalic and skanky than Kouros. They will blow your mind
For me, the soapiness likely comes from the balmy white floral-musk blended with the juniper and oakmoss. For those of us born in the 80s and 90s, so many of our green bar soaps were fragranced with juniper, lavender, sage and pine that anything outside of that realm potentially felt feminine. It's one of the reasons I so quickly connected with Sung Homme and the Varvatos freshies from Rodrigo Flores-Roux. "Masculine" soap bottled. Personally, I love Number One, especially that juniper and honey opening, but I've gotten some negative feedback on more than one occasion. 😄 Not that I care. 😭🤣 Dear Hugo Boss, Where are the flankers dagnabbit??
This scent smells like Warren Buffet or perhaps Mitch McConnell 😂 I still have 85% of my bottle left, maybe I'll try wearing it again soon with this cold weather coming up.
Best fragrance channel on youtube. I really enjoy your videos but you are costing me too much money! So far my favorite is Ceasars Man Legendary. That stuff smells so good!
Interesting. I feel the same way about Hugo Boss as you do about Paco Rabanne, I'm just not interested in their contemporary offerings. Sorry, I just have no interest in smelling like apple pie or anything. I'll have to check this one out, though.
Oh absolutely! All of paco’s new stuff is horrible. Boss scents are almost all the same I didn’t like bottled at all or any of the other new ones. Boss man in motion the orange sphere scent was one I wore when I was younger so it’s just a nostalgia thing I can’t really wear it now lol

My current favourite fragrance! This scent has everything!
It’s a good one I just like the more traditional fougeres…and kouros of course
same here. It's so freakin amazing.
New version with silver cap is great!
Good to know. I bought the old one and was hesitant getting them newer one. Will get it now and have both to compare.
Great review and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try it and have a blessed night

I've got this one too, it's a great fragrance from Hugo Boss. I absolutely hate the smell of BOSS in Motion, the silver ball and orange smell.
