Fun fact they are Ulfhednar not berserkers. Berserker means bear skin and Ulfhednar means wolf skin, the Ulfhednar where a wolf cult that worshiped the sons of Fenrir named Sköll and Hati.
I’ve been outside in the rain and in the snow in nothing but underwear, it’s nothing. I can see being annoyed when it’s your job, but I’m all about mindset. This actually sounds like an awesome experience, although sucky at first, I’m sure it taught those actors a lot about endurance and the primal side of being human. One of my favorite scenes, it’s like they’re powering up to fight Frieza lol
@@calebray4168 Alexander is Swedish so he’ll be well used to cold. But there’s a difference standing in cold damp conditions in rain if you’re feeling energised vs being tired and mentally exhausted etc ... OT but also a difference if you stand in snow when it’s -3’C vs -30’C = it’s not ‘nothing’ 😁
I loved this one but what about the Vikings creeping up on the village , Wolf skin on their back. Then Amleth gets spotted, he reveals his spear in a split second and throws it 50 ft into a mans chest.
As someone from Northern Ireland (where it was filmed), the cold is bizarre. It's a wet-cold, barely on the edge of freezing and sinks into your pores. Your body temperature dips rapidly despite no frost.
This movie was cinematically spectacular! If this movie does not win an Oscar, the system is rigged! Alexander Skargard for best actor and Nicole Kidman, best supporting actor! Wow! Just, wow!😳
That looked like the most fun! I've danced and played football in the rain, it's invigorating. I'm sure they took 20 takes just to get the actors more angry and primal lol
Alexander Skarsgard is gonna be offered the lead role of Caelan Erikson in the adaptation of "Heaven's Procurer" the 1st book of the 4 novel series "The Norseman Saga" i hope he accepts.
I struggle keeping fat on, but even then I can be outside in a sleeveless shirt and running shorts in 25 degrees with snow on the ground. IF I've eaten properly and have energy to burn and stay in motion I'll get too hot if the sun is out. Wind is a killer but keeping the head and neck, hands and feet warm and everything else in a solid layer does the same. It can only rain above freezing so if you can get that wet layer warm with body heat and have energy to stay in motion you're good for a long time. Food really is the key.
The movie was pretty good but due to studio meddling Robert Eggers actually had to change a pretty substantial amount of the film... Which I can definitely tell my first time watching it because it really seemed like it was going in a certain direction and then it kind of pedaled off and ended like meh....
Movie was a complete snooze. The berserker raid and key points where they brought in mythology were good, other then that it was one of the most boring movies I’ve watched in recent years. Could’ve taken half of that movie out. The second I knew they were gonna be stuck at the farm the entire time it was downhill. Had people falling asleep in the theater.
TBF you don't really get the "primal ferality" effect unless the actors are literally being exposed to harsh elements like that. It tears away at societal constructs and teachings, leaving only pure barbarism. Humanity in it's completely natural state.
That's literally the opposite of its most natural state, it needs to be broken to get there. It's a primitive state that results in a nation of grape and slavery. I wouldn't call that natural when we gather together to make laws to prevent it. It's nothing more than privileged bozos enjoying the feature comforts out ancestors made so much, that they get bored of it, and want a thrill. Some ride fast cars, others act depraved for a camera. That's nature as much as isolating from nature to a monk retreat is nature
They could've easily made a safe cookie cutter movie like so many others these days and yet they went through all that tedium, irritation, and genuine physical struggle. And the movie is all the better for it knowing the context behind the scenes. I feel like when I watch a movie that I know is just a bunch of clueless actors in front of a green screen it takes me out of it. But genuine filming in legitimate environments like this only immerses me further.
I like Eggers a lot but honestly, several scenes aside and despite really looking forward to it I feel like Northman was a BIG misfire. Looking forward to Nosferatu as well though....seems like a really good match for his talents.
That was one of the best scenes in that movie, almost makes me want to dig out my coyote pelt and walk around buck naked howling at the moon. Wonder what my neighbors think tho lol
I remember watching that scene and seeing them kinda slipping around on the mud and thinking 'damn behind their acting I'm getting some kinda vibe' and this proves it.
Best theater experience ever...testosterone was so high by the end of the movie. I was already a big fan of wardruna, danheim and shakespeare. This movie was like the cherry on the cake.
Rewrite of the film im not suprised! The first 30 m8ns of the film was epic! The village attack by the bazerkers. But things went up and down after that. I would love it if they kept amlet in viking mood longer.
Understandable. Water based weather is no joke. Once had to stand in the middle of a -15 degree river for over 15 takes. Thank the Gods the medic had spare wool socks handy, or I woulda been missing a few piggly-wiggly's
And their anger and fury at the director comes through as the fury they are meant to have. So hey, it worked out for the better. Odr is passionate fury. How better to channel it than by bringing real fury out?
Someone ruined this film’s opening action scene with the Viking raid on the village. The choreography is very deliberate and stiff. When Skarsgård gets to the village every siwng of his weapon just imaging going “YAAH” (walk, walk, swing) “YAAH” (stomp, stomp, swing) “YAAH”, and so on. lol I can’t get it out of my head ever since I heard that take on the raid scene!
Dont forget, these are just actors that lived it high, pretending to be viking warriors that live in dark harsh worlds that do raids knowing almost hoping they die in battle, of cource they were gonna have a really hard time filing this 😅

This movie was amazing. I feel bad for the difficulties ruining takes, but hopefully everyone was okay with the product in the end
It was worth it I guess
This movie was great but could of had more battle scenes
The movie was boring
@@PRIME-zr6uc Nah.

Real Berserkergang will make you cry after your frenzy. They pushed the actors on purpose.

Such an incredible film. It will get its love in due time
Honestly that what made the scene better, if you think about it the beasts they portray lives in the blistering cold and that made it better
You'd think they would channel all of that into their performances

I'd just like to point out that the scene that was hardest on them was one depicting an Óðinnic rite...
