Absolutely hilarious! I grew up with this show and watch it with my kids every year and never noticed that slight mispronunciation!! We laughed so hard! Thanks for sharing.
OpenHeartsandFriedChicken It doesn't bother me because I know this was written innocently. in context, Santa is a pure soul that would never hurt kids or relate to 'Stranger Danger'. It is sad kindness is linkex to pedos this day. Those types of people are horrible and have no right to harm children.
The fact we interpret this in a different way to the intent it was written with says more about how frequently actual horrors happen in today's society than it says about the song
When Santa tells kids to sit on his lap to tell him what they want to Christmas, they openly accept it and tell him what they want. But when I tell people to sit on my lap, they think I want to commit sex crimes with them, get angry at me, and sit at some cramped seat next to some other guy.
@Ernest Silveria Absolutely! The message in this special truly is amazing. I don't think there will ever be a special like this created again. Specials like these are so timeless and the message will remain in my heart forever.
This and Put One Foot In Front of The Other are perfection. Nostalgic glimpses into a more innocent time. Rewatching the film made me almost tear up hearing these songs. It's a bit funny to think a Christmas special could move someone so much, but here we are.
Back in the early 60's when this was made people didn't think much about pedophiles or anything of the sort so this song by the time it was made is completely innocent that is the only way it's meant to be taken
Watching it on Amazon now and I thought that exact thing. Today it's seen as creepy and sexual. It's funny how culture changes and innocence can be corrupted.
I always love that song but it always get stuck in my head. I Like the part that Kris Kringle says If you sit on my lap today and Don't be stingy but he always laughs.
I really don't remember any part of the 'Santa Claus' legend being that you owe him a kiss for every toy he gives you. Aren't you getting the toys because you've been a good boy or girl throughout the year? The toy itself should be the reward, but this song adds the extra dimension of you having to then do EVEN MORE by getting intimate with ol' St. Nick. It's enough to make kids never want to even try to be good and instead just steal a chopper, stick on a leather jacket and light a smoke.
If your mind is in the gutter, sure. For those of us who see it as the innocent and memorable song it is, we don't really see any reason to rob it of what makes it so endearing.

@@treefrog1018 If you wanted to be critical about it, yes, it is about an exchange or potential coercion, but you're meant to take it in the context of the movie. The movie is literally about taking first steps, and Kris pushing people to do them. From him pushing the Winter Warlock to taking a first step towards kindness, to Ms. Claus taking a first step towards freedom, to even attempting to get Burgermeister to take a first step towards kindness too by granting him a yo-yo. For the kids, it's kids who live heavily dictated lives, devoid of any love or fun in a somber (Somber) town (literally chores, chores, and more chores), and Kris' goal is to get them to open up and be happy as seen later in the movie. Just giving them gifts means nothing if they're too hesitant to express themselves or have fun.
GuruKaleb It is not. This came out in 1970 with the intentions of being an innocent song. Not all kindnesd to children means someone wants to molest them-especially Santa Claus.
