I remember when back mid-90s there were probably a couple of good places on Dominion Road, but nowhere like today. It’s wonderful, a real gift to the culture of the city. Thanks for showcasing it!

It’s good to know some of those places are still going strong. I worked at the Auckland Museum for 20 years from 1989-2009, back then Dominion Rd among other delicious cuisines, had my favourite Roast Duck restaurant, (last visited before covid), New Market had my favourite Mexican and Italian restaurants (not sure if they still exist) Parnell had my favourite Thai restaurant and Mt Eden had my favourite Dona Kebarb’s street food vendor (no longer exists). We are definitely spoiled for choice. Kia ora korua

The Vietnamese population isn’t as large as in Melbourne and so there isn’t a lot of choice when it comes to epic Vietnamese restaurants unlike in Melbourne where you can quickly reel off half a dozen spots which are brilliant and affordable. I’d say Melbourne definitely trumps our Vietnamese food scene but this spot we showcased and a few spots out in Otahuhu definitely stack up in the flavour stakes!
I really need to get to see more of Indonesia than the little I got to experience in 2012. "Kambing" is actually goat meat. My next trip across the Ditch looks like three or four weeks in Auckland eating out two or three times a day.

I thought Nasi Goreng is Malay cuisine so Indonesian share that same type of menu. Going into the Shaolin Kung Fu Noodle seems like entering the temple and Thomas already shaved his head before eating those lamb noodles & dumplings. Then he got some of his grown hair prior entering the Vietnamese cuisine so they've tried out three different cuisines in separate weeks in this video. Overall! I like all the foods they had in all three restaurants so always thumbs up to Chasing a Plate host by Thomas & Sheena.
Loving this series guys. The food looks amazing from start to finish. Im a little sad watching the Vietnamese food though as im going to have to cancel the trip again due to this lingering covid, so dam frustrating.

I remember once in Hong Kong we were shown to our table at this busy cafe, the waiter said to me “sit down, don’t even think about looking at your phone, hurry up and eat your food and leave- we need your table”. Savage 🤣 Good food though! 😆
The true etymology of “pho” is unknown but the more often attribute is to Cantonese “fun” although some try to fancy it up by saying it’s due to the French stew “pot au feu.” Whatever. Calling it a “noodle soup” is exactly what most Vietnamese cooks say. And it’s well documented that Vietnamese pho chefs young and old say pho refers specifically to the rice noodles as well as the overall dish. Ugh. I’m distracted. I gotta stop reading the comments while watching the video. 😬

Going into the Shaolin Kung Fu Noodle seems like entering the temple and Thomas already shaved his head before eating those lamb noodles & dumplings. Then he got some of his grown hair prior entering the Vietnamese cuisine so they've tried out three different cuisines in separate weeks in this video. Overall! I like all the foods they had in all three restaurants so always thumbs up to Chasing a Plate host by Thomas & Sheena.

The true etymology of “pho” is unknown but the more often attribute is to Cantonese “fun” although some try to fancy it up by saying it’s due to the French stew “pot au feu.” Whatever. Calling it a “noodle soup” is exactly what most Vietnamese cooks say. And it’s well documented that Vietnamese pho chefs young and old say pho refers specifically to the rice noodles as well as the overall dish. Ugh. I’m distracted. I gotta stop reading the comments while watching the video. 😬
