- Manchester, a Gangster city from the early 1910's, notable for the worst gun culture in Europe's history. South Manchester's gangs became engaged in feuds with each other for the control of the drug trade. Shootings and murders increased in frequency in the area. This started attracting negative news and media headlines, with the nickname of 'Gunchester' being used to sum up this increase in gang, drugs and firearms activity.
Theres always one person who comments on any video about British gang culture claiming America is so much rougher, 1 difference in size 2 difference in population 3 firearms laws....... so tbh yeah America probably is more dangerous but who actually cares? its like childish playground antics my dad is harder than your dad lol grow up
Gabriel Espina i don't think are i am British, lived in Britain all my life until a year ago when i moved to Vietnam
lol, that's funny, I thought when I read the comment section its gonna be USA is worse bla bla lol
sean but there is also someone stating the same thing as you in every one of these videos just to act smart and get attention that is childish as well? probably???? you ever heard about the mexican cartels in us lol
So how is that something to be proud of?
Truth is, you English people copy anything Americans do.
The music, the accent, the attitude, the swag, everything.
You wish you guys were American.
This video was titled the "bronx" of "manchester", after all
Get real "bruv"
sean mclellan I couldnt agree more. I couldn't be prouder to be from where I grew up, but unfortunately gun violence is definitely a part of life here, nothing to brag about let a couple of people you know get murdered than tell me how that feels, unless of course you are the type of of person that takes pride in such negative shit.
For the international audience: this video is 25 years old as of 2017.
Sadly little has changed in certain areas especially Salford. Still got the same idiots with guns running round shooting fucking KIDS all in the name of "respect". The little scrotes probably couldn't fucking spell respect never mind know what it means.
I grew up in Hackney London but moved to America in 2000 .everybody thinks that life over here is so dangerous I live in New York and trust me the streets of London are much worse.we may have a bigger gun problem but that's only because they are legal here.every time I come home home to London you can feel the tension in the air all the stabbings etc you see people fighting in the streets all the time.
U probably live in the upper rich part of new York
Prince Ocke Look at crime stats London is worse then New York
SoloHoster its not new york has over 350 murders a year London has little over 100 murders a year new york is more dangerous even paris is worse than London , why you think London cops don't need to carry guns
who cares..wooow..who cares yawn
Anfield Gang funny doesnt NY and london have about the same population and NY is still even more dangerous? The UK is nowhere near as dangerous as the US though.
What a righteous surprise at 4.08 Dennis Brown R.I.P singing 'Here I Come'
That's a piece of Reggae history right there !
wow, what a spot. Always remember, "the world loved Bob Marley, but Jamaica loved Dennis Brown".
Don't know if it's what life was like in the 80's/90's or just the fact that I was a teenage boy but I was forever on the lookout for gangs of lads in Manchester. Some real nasty nihilistic scrotes around then: muggers, bullies, psychos who wouldn't think twice about throwing a brick at your head etc.
💯 % true same here
Anyone who grew up in that knows .fist on fist.everone dressed in black.if ut involved,u knee the risk. All pussy now
Lads are you serious grew up round there and it’s only bad if your only involved and tbh it only gets bad in the summer - when all the sides are out fallow moss Hulme etc other than the summer It’s pretty quiet
Gangs everywhere. i lived in Moston
Salford were worse.
I buy crack from moss side every day and an never once had trouble
Barry Ash 😂😂
You never did !
Barry Ash he buys off me
Cracking stuff
dominic clarke ayy dommyy
I started watching this again and forgot about the wonderful footage of Dennis Brown R.I.P singing 'Here I Come' at 4.08...such a beautiful/spiritual piece of Reggae history right there...The true Rasta culture/lifestyle/religion is totally opposite to the crime and gangs shown in this documentary...Rasta is love...One Love.
i thought you were joking until it came on - wat Dennis Brown in Moss Side - there he was Prince of Lovers Rock - amazed
Manchester has a deep musical heritage going back to the beginning of the 1900s.
@@draculasneeze6681 lovers rock was totally British tho , Dennis brown was Jamaican and roots sound.
The irony was he too was impacted greatly by cocaine and crack.
@@robertlund5694 Yes indeed Lovers Rock came from Britain and it was the first time that Jamaica looked to England musically

This comment is funny as
i am from cheshire and i was in my local nightclub, bit of a shit night so me and four mates went to manchester.most places would not let us in but we ended up in a club that was 99% black and five white lads from cheshire.this was about 1994 and we sounded scouse to them.got talking to a lad and he invited us to moss side to a party.we are all pissed so we agreed to go.got to the party and its full of blacks and the kitchen door was a bar with a old boy selling beers and the decks are sounding out and a nice smell of weed filling the rooms.i remember we were ripping each other about football as we are all liverpool supporters.after a couple of hours we went to another party which looked the exact same as the last place.we left about six in the morning. ANYWAY FANTASTIC PEOPLE AND GREAT BANTER.we would often drive around moss side in my mates car and buy some nice weed from the lads on the bikes.good days

Not seen this one I left Manchester 11 years ago but any one who has lived in any area from miles platting to cheeth hill and miles platting you can see where I'm going with this there is all ways a rough area no matter where you live
I lived in moss side & Hulme from 86-2002. Very exaggerated the papers full of Gunchester shit, bad news shock horror sell papers. Yeah shit happened but it was best place I've lived. Great community, lovely people helped each other out.
I,m sure its different from a male perspective, how many of the hundreds who have been killed were female?would,nt mind betting,NONE,unless caught in crossfire

This was filmed in 1992.
Itt is incredible to know there was a world before I was born
mayena I was gonna guess 1993. Nothing much has changed, even Fila is fashionable again!
1993 end of
90's were better times.
Manchester was the worst place in the UK in the 90s but now its now its south London and north Birmingham
Anfield Gang was Nottingham around the Millenium now its Birmingham London, G. Manchester, Bedfordshire, south yorks, Merseyside, Essex, west yorks, Suffolk, Lancashire. That's the top 10 this year apparently.
Anon Amous what about Luton nuff shootings deya
Muffn Man can't deny it again with those crimes the perpetrators are usually black and Asian. Luton is a mainly Muslim town now. Look at the drug busts n see who's getting arrested. Very few white crimes of violence. There's always the odd exception. Happen to have friends in luton.
It used to be gunchester but now B'ham is the UK gun capital
nah it's still Manchester, it just moved to the North and East of the city.
Remember when organised crime in Moss Side turned pretty medieval, more and more people getting hacked with machetes (in addition to firearms) etc. Then the police pretty much banged up everyone who wasn't squeaky clean in the entire area. Crime plummeted after that but left a vacuum for other areas to take advantage of.. Salford, Cheetham Hill, even Scousers, Brummies & Southerners.
That’s not medieval. As for vacuum for other areas.. they’ve always been into x and y. More than the moss too.
Not medieval? Okay, what about savage?
Yeah i remember chopping 1 rass boy in his forrid. Couldn't believe how his head split into 2 like that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Back when this was filmed 92/93 it was dangerous just walking down claremont rd. Me and a mate was stood 4 shops up from benji when he was shot. And the bookies in the prescent all the dealers hid the brown an rock in holes in the wall, when a buyer came in the dd would reach in the hole in wall an get what he wanted. Claremont rd was just one massive front line before Operation china pretty much closed it down where you got the best brown, white or weed for the cheapest prices. The best sensi, weed you ever smoked from moss side, all my family right back to1920s born an bred and proud of it. Its home an i love the place although things are changing fast.

By chance I've just come across the video and wow brings back so many memories of living in the area. It just became the norm the stabbings, the shootings and just violence in general. Moss Side has always been like that. Dangerous area if you aren't from there. I remember the riots of 1981. Completely aimed at the police, not as an opportunity to loot shops. Different times!
Moss side today is a university student area i must say it has really changed from the videos i have been watching from the 90s more young people are in uni or college
Rusholme and Fallowfield are student areas deffo not moss side
What's it like in moss side now ?
All changed after all these years.. History.

Community worker John Samuels believes police policies have made it that way.
I was so surprised to find out that John Samuels was black. I've never heard of such a thing. A black person? Blaming police officers for an area's decline through drugs and gang violence? How rare.
Manchester police in the 80 were well known for doing seedy shit and being centrally investigated, he is right and blacks, whites, Asians and mixed race people will tell you the same. Seems you re just here racially trolling so take your gash comment s elsewhere.
I worked with an ex-policeman from the 90s. He confirmed that they used to let them kill each other, it made their job a lot easier
Mr Tea, you speak from the heart.
From the U.K. - Been to Amercia twice (Detroit, Ohio & Opa Locka/MIA) but never NYC. NYC was at it worst throughout the 1970's & 1980's. Even during the late 1980's, parts of NYC looked like parts of Germany & during the war, after it had been blitz and that's NOT a joke or exaggeration to. That's just setting the scene/the backdrop. Add to that (1st) heroin epidemic, then (2) serial killer phenomena, then (3) loads of ex-Vietnam war veternas, wondering the streets & out of their minds on drugs, (4)hiv/aids epidemic, then (5) crack cocaine epidemic, then (6) gang culture, then (7) street crime that fuelled smack & crack, then (8) liberal guns laws. NYC during the 1970's & 1980's was "YES" a place to travel and for international business, but NOT an international tourist destination like it is today...... The point being made is that there never had been a place, time or era in the U.K., that could or would rival USA for violence/crime THANK GOD.
PS: genuine love & respect from 🇬🇧 to ALL the people mentioned in the above locations. Especially Detroit & Opa Locka, MIA. I'll never forget you people👊

I am from Hulme and have lived in South London for 33 years.
Never seen a crime.
Constructed fantasy.
If people spoke to the police rather than allow drugs pushers and dealers to hide within the community then the young people wouldn't be being shot on the street.
If you don't act like a community and don't fight to keep the crooks off the street, then you are allowing crooks to act as they wish.
Don't blame the police for targeting everyone, if you don't tell them who the crooks are.
The blood of these young men, is on the communities hands, they know who the drug dealers are, but they do nothing to bring these to men justice.
Beeblebrox One I'm not saying that isn't true. But if no one speaks then nothing changes. And more young men are put in the ground. Idiot
@Beeblebrox One I worked in the emergency services based in Moss for 30 years. I know more about threats, Fire bombs, being shot at and machete attacks. So don't give me that "You don't know" crap. If people spoke up, then the drug dealers would not have the hold over the area.
The people of Ireland had enough of terrorists murders and stood up and stopped the violence. It's not just fear of dealers it's an institutional hatred of the Police. Well there is no one else to help you put these thugs away so wake up.

Moss Side is tough I'm not saying it's not. However Stonebridge and Harlesden up until gentrification were the most dangerous parts of Britain. A gunfight was the norm in the streets then. @@danieloliver4558 this video is from 1992. Moss Side has changed since.

Here in Sweden they use military assault weapons, throw hand grenades and detonate bombs. Even at Police stations. Hence, the officers need protection coming to and leaving work. This is the new and defo more exciting Sweden. Anyone fancy coming to live here?
Nope. They used to report what was happening over there, they don't any more
@@MonstaTrapz Why is that they have quit reporting from Sweden, you reckon?
@@CCLilja I don't know, I might be wrong but don't seem to see many articles or videos anymore
It's only new to you lot we had gun crime since the early 90s.
@@kjn6505 However, the gun violence in Sweden, both in absolute terms and per capita, is second to no other European nation.

Trinidad gang wars mostly in lavantille, east west corrodor. It gets bad
Glasgow's the most violent city in Western Europe as I can bare witness to on many occasions😉
Geo Mcbride I went there before and the people are lovely, just an observation but the people are much more nicer than the English and go out of their way to be nice, everyone there is quite active aswell as their were joggers everywhere!
@@tianna215 that’s the thing with Glaswegians, they say they would stab you in the back with a smile on their face. I’m from 20 miles of the city so I can safely say that’s true.
