    White roofs. I think it is to reflect the sun and heat. Better to reflect than to use an A/C unit to cool your working space.

    Great job DJ! You nailed that roof detailing and paint with weathering. For those reading this, I am not a contractor, but I do know that dirt (those dark spots) likes to collect in low lying areas and around drain holes. Also, even flat roofs have a pitch so think about where the rain water will carry to and then leave the dirt. Again DJ, you nailed it!!!

    For a more random paint effect just tear the sponge a bit around the edges with your fingernails to get rid of the straight edges

    Back in the day I worked for a roofing contractor who specialized
    in commercial work we would put
    down rubber membrane then rock
    it, you could take your roof panel
    and paint it with brown primer and
    sprinkle sand on it for that look in
    Nscale DJ!!!

    Great video and tutorial of finishing your scratch built building of your own style roof! I have those same paints on a Dollar Tree/Walmart shopping spree for craft items to use on the layout etc. Btw, I'm abt to start building Railroad Dioramas during my healing process and until we get moved into our new home to start creating my railroad room. Thanks again for sharing your videos with us along with your time and effort!

    A couple of comments on your roof, 1. I would have located the vents towards the back of building which seems to be a storage/manufacturing section and therefore needing to exhaust fumes, dust etc. Also with a flat roof you’ll need to consider roof drain’s,otherwise you’ll have a swimming pool when it rains. Your rooftop units which are both A/C and heating are nearly always supplied with natural gas or propane, so they need piping connected to them.. Another small detail is plumbing vents, generally 4” to 6” pipe 12” to 24” above the roof where bathrooms would be located. Finally flat roof’s aren’t perfectly flat, they have low spots where rain water collects and leaves roundish stains on a roof. They’re whiteish on black roofs and grayish on white roofs. This is getting rather picky but details make a big difference.

    BTW, the white roofs are TPO. Thermoplastic Polyolefin. Kind of a single-ply plastic sheet you roll out onto the roof. And yes, the white color reduces energy costs.

  • @HenrikSweden1
    @HenrikSweden1 2 года назад

    yes those sponges sure are great and inexpensive. Have you tried to take pictures of some of the roofs, with your fine drone. Is it possible to do that and then print them for use on your model houses ? that way you sure would end up with real rooftops without having to do any paint job. The same could be done with photos of streets and patched ones. Anyway looks great ! thanks !

    you're still driving trains? the way you've talked on some in the past i was thinking you'd retired! i'll tell ya what most people leave out on a layout and i haven't seen talked about is details that would show life! what's missing in a commercial setting like this is dumpsters trash barrels piles of trash (boxes!) and stacks of pallets utility stations (like electrical substations either by the building or across the parking lot!) lunch areas (picnic table by the building or across the parking lot by a tree!) crosswalk poles and fire hydrants on the corners and with neighborhoods or a country scene gardens sheds in a yard clothes on a line dog houses in the house yards and kids toys and bikes in yards!!

    • @djstrains
