I'm glad you guys want your children to be multilingual. It is not too late for Isaac either. Teach him Spanish and whichever Chinese you want to. and your future kids make sure they know how to speak Spanish and Chinese so they will know their families beyond the immediate. I only speak English and when I went to my mother's home country it was very isolating and embarrassing that I could not speak the language. I'm glad Isaac can understand Spanish at least. A lot of times people think it's best to only speak the language of the place you're going to be living at the most but I think it's best to be well versed if possible. Being multilingual also expands your kids' opportunities in the future
i think the best strategy for tiff and casey would be for casey to learn spanish. tiff already knows spanish fluently (even if she's rusty), so it would be much easier to teach kid #2 spanish with casey learning it. especially since casey's cantonese is only so-so and he thinks in english. don't think it's realistic to be learning and teaching their kid in mandarin when neither of them know it. seems like tiff's speech at the end was hinting at that.

Tiff should only speak Spanish to the babies, Casey should only speak Cantonese, Tiff and Casey would then speak English to one another so along with school the babies will learn English. Also Issac is still really young, so maybe only speak Spanish to him? Kids his age pick up languages really quickly so maybe even put him in Chinese school to learn Cantonese.
Yeah but English is her main language too so she should just hire a Spanish teacher for issac if she wants him to speak a decent Spanish.

@@katherineamelia98 Not a tutor a actual teacher that is a native spanish speaker. Tiff said it herself she struggles to hold conversation with family members in mexico, i dont think its a good idea for her just to teach her Children Spanish on her own if her Spanish is broken, it would be more like spanglish which to is just cringe, in my opinion.

I agree with tiff. It's hard to teach our kids another language when both parents speak different languages. My boyfriend is Chinese and I'm Vietnamese, so we only speak English to each other. Right now, our two year old speaks mainly English and a little bit of Vietnamese. Nowadays, I find myself speaking to her in English more because I feel like she understands it better than Viet. My 10 year old is like issac as well. She can only listen to Vietnamese but cannot speak it. I think I just need to try to speak Vietnamese more often and not worry about her not understanding. Babies learn the language a lot quicker when they're young. Good luck to you and tiff when you do have your little one! Can't wait to see the next chapter in your life :)
Yes! Just speak it even if they might not understand! My parents would speak to me in English and Viet but my grandparents ALWAYS spoke to me in Viet even if I didn't understand. My ba noi didn't really understand English so I was forced to speak Viet even if it was bad. Now, I can say with confidence, that my Vietnamese is= good for someone my age and born in the US.

I'm 23, i started picking up english when i was a bit older than isaac, knowing that we spoke arabic at home, i learned french in school, and taught myself english through watching movies, youtube, disney shows first with subtitles and now i'd like to think that i'm fluent in english...i would love to be fluent in spanish too, but i just don't have time and i'm not exposed to a lot of their media (although i did not make the effort tbh) but hopefully in the future...oh and german is also a very interesting language that i would like to learn.
I'm rumanian and I live in Spain, the best way to teach the kids to knowledge many leanguages is simply to speak to them in different leanguages every day. For example, my aunt was speaking to my little cousin in rumanian, I was speaking to him in spanish and at the kindergarten the teachers were speaking in catalan ( we live in Catalonia and here they mostly speak catalan). At the age of 3 my cousin was speaking perfectly 3 leanguages without any difficulty at all. You don't have to speak the same leanguage, Casie can talk to the baby in Chinese, Tiff in spanish and Isaac in English. Automatically all of you will start to understand Chinese or spanish because you will lisent to the other.

With busy scheduling, will be hard to learn a new language. Might be easier to learn Spanish for Casey since some words are fairly similar to English. But yeah, would be dope to have a bilingual baby. Wish I grew being able to speak 2 languages haha :D

I babysat some kids and they were raised with three languages.
Their mom only spoke spanish with them, their dad spoke german with them and the parents spoke french with each other.
Of course, in school they learnt english and latin. But they were at such an advantage through their parents! So, do it! Its the coolest thing ever!

It’s way easier for Casey to learn Spanish than for tiff to learn Cantonese or mandarin. Teach your next kid Spanish because it’s the most practical for everyone and won’t be nearly as time consuming. Also, show Isaac some funny/entertaining Spanish-language RUclips channels and his proficiency will sky rocket. Change the iPad language to Spanish too maybe so he has to read it (you can leave the keyboard and search preferences in English though).

Spanish is not easier at all in the way the grammar works, Cantonese or any Chinese is relatively easy syntax wise and the way it is spoken.

Ren Gogo Ren Gogo The FBI ranks the level of difficulty a native English speaker would have if they learned another language. Spanish is lvl 1 (approx 650-700 class hrs to learn) and Cantonese and mandarin are a category 4 (2200 class hrs) so it would be easier for Casey to learn Spanish

Casey is chinese and tiffany mexican. their baby is obviously going to be biracial. Casey should speak Chinese and tiffany mexican so baby could be fluent in chinese, English and spanish. language is great the more the merrier. literally best of both worlds.
You guys should check out language immersion school's. They're all over in Houston. I would think CA would be the same way. Be a good way to have them learn and probably promote the language at home too.

You guys should set a goal, one of mine is to be able to have a full conversation while I speak my significant others language. Tiff speaks/ responds in Chinese and Casey responds and speaks in full Spanish.

Its never too late to teach Issac spanish language. I also have a struggle myself about the language as well. U are never alone tiff, I do need to learn more spanish, like reading,writing,speaking of course.

I think you should teach kids the language that you speak with your parents and the kids will learn english when they go school.
When I was kid only my mum would talk to me in her native language and my dad spoke to me in english and as a result I’m not a fluent speaker of my mums native language but I do understand it and I did even go to school to keep up with the language but it did not stick.

My kids could have been speaking three languages, French & Creole from me and some asian language from my husband.
It's so easy to just speak what you're comfortable with.
What's really weird, I don't know if this happens to multi- language speakers, is that when I speak with my family who speaks English one sentence can have three different languages in it. Whatever language comes easily in the moment, that's what you uttered. 😕 Guess what? Lol we understand each other. 😁

The 3 different languages in one sentence is relatable. We speak English, Dutch, Sranan Tongo (English creole) and bhojpuri (indian-Nepali language).

Hey, Tiff have you ever thought about sending Isaac to Mexico with his Grandpa over the summer that way he pick up Spanish. I'm thirty years old and I just moved to Mexico while I recover from an injury only been here for two months and my Spanish has progressed a lot. Hopefully, if you send him here he will too just a thought.

It's not too late for issac to learn Spanish! Start easy, find a tv or movie and watch it in Spanish, start listening to Spanish music, etc

Dude if Isaac takes spanish in high school AND college he'll be fluent easy. some ppl get fluent just from taking in college. plus he can study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country. this is what I would've done in retrospect since now I really WISH i was fluent

What language should you teach your kids. I have worked in many types of jobs I have bean asked can I speak Spanish,Chinese: Cantonese/Mardrian, Japanese. Nope can’t speak any of those first four languages I do know a little French and That’s it.

I think Spanish seems to be easier to pick up phonetically. It is tough for kids to pick up a language that both parents don’t speak.
I’m trilingual, but my parents are fluent in all three languages that I know, that’s probably why it was easy for my as a baby to pick it up. English is my first because I’m Australian, but my parents would converse in the other two all the time.

I’m like Issac where I can understand my parent’s language but I can’t speak the language in full sentences
