Hi Oliver, is your vehicle a hybrid? Just noticed your comment. I have a brand new 2023 Rav4 Hybrid that I made the horrible mistake of letting it sit too long. Just curious, did you bring it in to Toyota to run a diagnostic on the hybrid battery or did you just drive it without any issues after boosting it?
@@ArchStanton19966 Yes I have the plug in hybrid version but I used my Toyota to jump start another car. Why can’t you just plug it in or is yours just a pure hybrid?

If you own a 2019-2020 Rav4 Hybrid, take it to the dealer ASAP or you might end up very late for work like I was.

I have those portable chargers, when im alone there is no way I can connect the cable to the negative side you said. I just connect it to one of the main bolts that are connected to the engine block by the positive terminal. Can you make a video that way?
Yeah Same issue. I have a portable jump starter and the negative cord will definitely not stretch to that engine block connection. A bit frustrating they are so far from one another. 1) is the metal bolt close to the terminal on the engine fine? 2) Can you daisy chain a regular set of jumper cables with the portable jump starter? I'm guessing no.
@@orangechris Don’t try to daisy chain. You can, but it’s risky. Any unpainted bolt that’s on the metal body will do. The whole car is a ground for this purpose.

Toyota advises against using your hybrid to jump start other vehicles. It can cause damage to your hybrid electrical system. It is best to use the portable jump starter to help somebody. You can also use it to jump start your own vehicle. Here is a video of the portable jump starter that we use: Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (2019-2024): Real Life Jump Start Using Portable Jumpstarter. LokiThor JA301! - ruclips.net/video/-FqYXcY_KKE/видео.html.
Just wondering if this also works the other way around - if the RAV4 Hybrid is the donor vehicle, will this procedure charge a battery from a gas-only (non-hybrid) engine?
Is there a difference between disconnecting after re-charge to start the RAV-4, or to start while the charging cable still connected? I had jumped cars while cables were still on. Just wonder what would you recommend.
You can connect it to the bolt located next to the positive terminal. Be careful not to not to use the ECU bracket bolts. Toyota has released the tech tip T-TT-0694-22 ( dot.report/bulletins/10211794 ) which suggests that the engine ECU can be damaged if the vehicle is improperly jump started. This is how we jump started our RAV4 hybrid using the portable jump starter - ruclips.net/video/-FqYXcY_KKE/видео.html.

I have a question. Is it safe to turn on the dead vehicle while connected to the donor? The way I normally do it, is to turn on the donor, then immediately crank the dead car, and then allow the alternator to charge the battery. So does this work on a hybrid?
Yes, you can start the hybrid RAV4 while being connected to the donor vehicle. It is a good idea to let the engine of the donor work for a few minutes before you start the RAV4
Hello, do u know how to erase the driving seat memory? All videos i saw was to setup the memory. But how to erase it? Now, once I opened the door the seat will move to my preferred seat number. But now i wanna remove it as sometimes I sleep in my car during car camping. Thanks
You can disconnect the positive lead of the battery (in the trunk) for at least 30 seconds. That should clear all presets in the car. If you simply want to change your current setting, just set up a new one in its place.
Being this cautious about connecting order, revving, disconnecting is maybe good, but not really necessary. You can start the car while cables are still attached and donor is running since voltages across alternators on different vehicles are pretty much the same.
I have just had the problem of a flat 12v battery but the answer is not to try and charge the 12v battery, not with a small home charger anyway. It appears that trying to charge the 12v battery is something you can't do in situ as the charger will try and deliver a high current to the cars systems so keeps peaking then cutting out. Maybe a heavy duty charger wouldn't? I was advised that the battery should not be disconnected as this could cause further problems. The 12v battery does NOT actually start the car directly, the lithium battery does, but this battery must be able to supply 12v in order for the system to start. If a power pack or another battery is connected to the fuse box (as shown in the jump starting video) and the earthing point, that will provide the 12v required to enable the system and allow the lithium battery to start the vehicle which will then charge the 12v battery. However, it does still need to supply quite a high current. I was also advised that if jump starting the other car's engine should not be running. I guess if providing the 12v to the fuse box in this fashion doesn't work there is something wrong with the lithium battery or another system.
I open the door to my RAV4 Hybrid, the battery is dead. So I think? I hook up my car charger the charger instantly says the battery is fully charged. Any ideas? Should I leave the charger on manual see what happens?

Toyota manual recommends to use the metallic point that we showed in the video as the negative connection. It also specifies that it has to be a solid, stationary, unpainted metallic point away from the positive terminal and any moving parts. You can try using other points as the negative connection, similar to how we did it in this video - Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (2019-2023): Real Life Jump Start. But you have to be careful since Toyota also released Tech Tip T-TT-0694-22 ( www.tsbsearch.com/Toyota/T-TT-0694-22 ), which says that improper jump starting can damage the ECU if jumper cables are hooked up on or around the engine ECU or ECU mounting bracket. This Tech Tip recommends to stick to the negative point specified in the manual.
@@MorozovAutomotive good to hear it explained that way. I saw the method I mentioned on a video by the " Car Care Nut " who is a trained Toyota Tech with 15 years plus and Hybrid specialist.
