Oh...Reminds me of noodles making! With repeat tossing and hitting the dough against the table, it eventually splits and produce multiply noodle threads-like coils! Will try out on clay dough. lol.
STEVE!! Great to hear from. you. I am glad you enjoyed it. Jim and I definitely teamed up to figure out how to solve the challenge just to make the cup and then of course Jim got very creative with his editing and music. which really makes it entertaining. Thanks for watching!!
Very creative idea!! Brilliant!! Perhaps I could use one of those wooden paper kitchen towel holders (so the wall mount is the base) and cardboard roll as a coil master.....
I love extruders! Although I know the good ones can be a bit pricey. The local hobby store often sells smaller hand-held ones, or you can DIY it with a caulk gun. For something spectacular, try braiding thinner coils. Maybe even try adding some color into individual strands. Thanks for your hard work and beautiful results!
those are such great ideas Katana!! Love those. I am going to have to try making one of those do it yourself caulk gun extruders. that would definitely be a challenge.
Love your fun and interesting inventive ideas ! Always a pleasure to sit and relax with a smile 😊 thank you Anne . Jim’s new invention is very inspiring!
@@annruel1982 Gotcha! I just love both your dynamics and how it always looks like you're having fun with the videos. It's a pleasure to watch. Thank YOU!
I loved this as I do everything I’ve seen you do. The “Coli Master 2000” was a stroke of genius. The only thing I might have done differently would be, since I already had that long coil with a trough in it, I might have added a different color clay in the trough and see what could be done with that as well.🐝❤️🤗
Great experiment! And Coil Master! A nice idea would be to take the top end of the coil and instead of trimming it down flat, just bend it down to creat the handle from the same piece of coil.
I would have curved all that clay back around the table so I could pinch it back into another coil and make a plate to go with that cup. A nice little curled cookie plate. Flatten the bottom but leave the top ridged. Glaze it well with food safe glaze and this will be a cute little ‘after school dessert combination’. Congrats on the record.
Hi Michele! It was fun brainstorming about how to solve this challenge for sure. The Diamondcore hand extruder and the Coil Master were the keys to making this idea work for sure.
Jim’s special effects and the “Coil Master 2000” as well as your master coil skills made for a very entertaining video this week! What a fun experiment! The tongue on the DiamondCore tool can be adjusted down just by loosening the screws on the side. You probably knew that already, but just in case you didn’t. Now…..for my genius idea on another way to make this project…..a home made pasta making machine! Fortunately the Arcobaleno AEX18 model will hold 15-20lbs at a time and will only run you about $6259! 😮You might need to purchase a custom attachment to make “noodles” (aka coils) that are thick enough to withstand rotating around the Coil Master 2000 without breaking. 😂 Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏼 that the best idea submitted might just win themselves their very own autographed Coil Master 2000!!! 🎉🎉🎉 You guys are the best!
Cool idea! Jim is a genius. 😄 I think I would have cut each coil instead of spiraling them, and have even layers, like bangle bracelets. Either way, it's a fun project! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Pat. I can see that in my head. That would have solved the problem of the non-flat foot and rim for sure. The only thing for me would be the connection points at each coil. My porcelain doesnt like them and tries to warp. I was wondering if this project would warp in the firing, but to my surprise it was round when we took it out of the kiln...... I say go for it Pat!!
Hahahaha!!!! Now that you mention it, I can see that especially at the segment where Jim pans the coil up and down. I wondered why that made me hungry, haha.
The whole process was about 3/4 hour to build it and I did have to apply water periodically and compressing the clay to keep it from drying out. Once the coil was extruded it stayed pretty wet.
Hi Christine. Perhaps, but it was a challenge that we set for ourselves purely for fun and as we didnt have a wall mounted extruder, the solution was the best we could come up with. Besides it really is a cool mug in the end 🙂. thanks for watching anyway and it is nice to talk to you.
This is exactly why I can never throw anything away. Just in case I need to make a “coil master 2000“. Great creativity!
Hahaha, you made me laugh remmary! That is why I have practically a whole craft store in my garage, haha.
Hi Ann... did you use the entire 8ft? This is so great
@@franakoudelka2615 Hi Frana. Yes. We used the entire 8 feet. It was enough for approximately a 5 inch mug or perhaps a little bigger.
Oh...Reminds me of noodles making! With repeat tossing and hitting the dough against the table, it eventually splits and produce multiply noodle threads-like coils! Will try out on clay dough. lol.
This is very well done and enjoy the creativity along with the music...not to mention the incredible skill Anne demonstrates to producing the cup!!

let your clay get to leather hard then cut the ends flat
Hi Bob. You are right, cutting would have been a lot easier at leather hard. Good thinking.

Don't get me wrong I really liked the Project but it really wasn't a coil just because it was cut in half it was only half a coil
