    '98 Ford Ranger 3.0 range is 12.0 - 16.0 ohms. Four were about 14.2 ohms. Two were as high as 28 ohms. Truck has over 422,000 miles. I replaced all of them. I have all the paperwork from the previous owner and they were never replaced. And it cleared the P0304 code.

    Ok - good / simple test and advice. That being said , if I were to perform this test on all injectors as a comparison on ohm readings between the injectors - I would not remove the injectors - rather just unplug them and test without removing

    I planned to clean injector as i have been suggested to do that, and after i clean them i will measure the resistance. Thanks for the tip.

    Quick one
    Can cleaning the injectors alter the readings in anyway?
    Can ohm test it be good, but still the injector bad?

      Cleaning has no effect on ohm test.
      Ohm test really just checks that the coil inside the injector is still making a circuit.
      The coil inside magnetically moves the plunger in the injector to allow petrol to pass. It doesn't tell you anything about wether you have a dirty injector, bad seals, corroded connections, or problems in the harness somwhere.

    hi, all my 4 injectorshave 0 ohms of resistance, but the engine start and no engine light? I did it multiple times, precociously touch only the probes of the injector!! Is it possible or i messed up my resistance test? Thanks!
    I heard that solenoid injector can have .3ohms of resistance and working fine!

    Testing resistance sometimes will lead you to wrong diagnosis..it is better to swap with another..because sometimes injector will malfunction when it gets hot or running..i have experienced it many time..resistance is in specification but after a few minutes of driving, problem will comes..i checked the data stream while engine is running , i saw that the injector #4 is 0 ms..then when engine is cold the injector have 160 ms.

    Info: Alt 234 will give you the Ω symbol if you use the Numlock Keys to choose the numbers with Numlock On.

    i measured on two of them and both have 12.0 ohms but one does not work instaled in car and changed position and same thing and all were tested and cleaned and they said it is ok

    What about if I test my injector it test fine within spec and then I waited a few minutes tested it again and it showed open loop 0L on my multimeter I made sure my connections were good

    Thanks for sharing man! I just found an injector on my 2000 Windstar van that makes no difference in the sound of the mildly skipping engine when I unplug it.
    When I unplug any of the other 5 the RMPS drop a couple 100.
    Now to find out whats wrong with it.-_-

    "331SVTCobra saidFirst reading was 16.1 ohms. The second reading was 15.9. The difference isn't worth worrying about, but notice that you steadied both probes with your fingers, creating a parallel path, and reducing the resistance."
    ...that's not true. The parallel path goes across your skin, which is a high resistance, some mega ohms. You can't lower the 16ohms with such a high resistance. Meaning: measuring such low resistances, you can't influence the reading by holding probes with fingers. You can check that by the simple parallel res. equation.
    The story is different when you measure high resistances, but still, the path through skin is very high res. So you need to measure megaohms to screw the reading by touching the probes.

    Good job!! Is the 16.3 for all cars injectors? what is the Chevy measure?

      Thanks! No, they are all a little different. I'm not 100% sure on a Chevy, I usually call the dealer or get the repair manual to find out.

    Sir is more resistance means rich mixture ? And bad millage ? My Hyundai santro 2004 are giving me 16 ohms resistance what does that means ?

      Not a problem, nothing to do with economy, the resistance of all the injectors in the set should be pretty consistent.16 ohms is normal for the Sentra.

    I test injectors on a motorcycle today in wondering on mine is shows 12.8 - 12.9 ohms but one of the injectors shows at 13.5 ohms is that mean that when is going bad that's open

      Maybe or maybe not. I would see if you can find out what range is acceptable for those injectors. It may be fine.

    Thx, I just heard about this test I have had a number of issues trying to diagnosis a missing w/ my 1995 Roadmaster. I recently discovered and replaced both catalytic converter's bcoz of being plugged, which I think may have harmed the EFI's. I used my cheap voltmeter w/ setting on 2000 Ohms and I got .015-.017 on 5 of the EFI's and 3 had readings of .005-.007 so I think there maybe a problem w/ those 3 which are on the side of the cat that was mainly plugged. Also my mechanic said that side was running lean. Any advice in appreciated. Thx

      Thx for getting back I was thinking about changing the 3 myself but I watched a fellow on Utube remove the fuel rail at a junk yard and it looks like he used a special expander tool. My mechanic agreed to replace the 3, I hope this will be the last of the issue. I bought new cheaper ones on rockauto bcoz a refurbished one before didnt work.

      +Danny Chuqui It really depends on the manufacture. Some will have different readings than others. As far as being bad, it could be a low number, no number at all or really high.

      HS HASNY ideally you should test all of them. They should be the same reading. If one is of a different reading, its faulty.

    continuity is a good test for a melted coil wire.. cool. Note: if your mechanic says more than one injector has failed, that would be a MIGHTY big coincidence so go out into your garage at midnight and check for aliens in flying saucers firing ray guns at your engine. Or find another mechanic

      Edwin Henry Blachford Well, if the fuel system is so dirty or the fuel itself is contaminated with water .... its so likely to find out that more than one injector has failed.

    Ok, lets say 16 ohms its the regular spec, what if one injector its 10 ohms? What does that mean? Gonna give more flow or less?

    I've tested all 4 of mine and they all said 2.5 ohms but when I did the AA battery test only 2 would click, do you have any idea what could be wrong with them?

      Johnnysshop, yea I sprayed carb cleaner in them and I had them sitting in it also, I called a local part pull yard and they have injectors for $11 a piece

    I did this same thing with my 99 Camry all read 14.0 ohms and 1 doesn't read at all so I'm thinking this 1 injector is bad

    You will know if an injector is bad if the reading of one injector is out of the 15% range of the average of all your injectors' readings

    all that mumbo jumbo and did not state a resistance Ohm range for that injector. Although stating most are about the same, he says he has no idea. Wrong, he has a good idea of a range, but not your specific make and model range. Just ballpark it or state the range of your injector, something when doing a how to test using a multimeter.

      blahblahblahblahblah for 4 minutes. with 15 secs of "touch probes to pins and should be around 15-16 ohms"
