  • I was a bit surprised to see that there are no videos like this on RUclips so I decided to make one for this week's upload. Don't get me wrong, I love the new playoff format but it was really interesting to look back on the points format that got me into Nascar. I hope you guys enjoyed this upload and if you did make sure to leave some suggestions down below for future videos. Thank you guys so much for watching and I hope you enjoy!

Stewart’s 2011 title run was incredible. Once the chase started he quickly turned his season around. Edwards had a great season as well and it was hard to see him lose but the minimum of margins.

In my opinion it was By far the Best Season of Racing I've seen in Nascar since I started following it....(and I started watching when they aired the first Nascar Race ever Televised on Wide World of Sports...lol)
Especially the last 10 races!!!! It's like Nascar turned into "The Tony Stewart Show"...lol.
His Tenacity, Drive and Desire to Win is what took him and the Rest of his Team to the Championship.
He had enough Confidence in Himself and his Team to even get "Froggy" about it towards the end. He "Knew" it was "His Year" to Win and Someone was going to have to "Take it Away from Him" in order to stop them.....and that wasn't happening....lol. I'll "Always" be a Tony Stewart Fan!!! A True Nascar Hero in my Book...

I feel like you should’ve mentioned that Bill Elliott would’ve won if his crew chief didn’t make a fatal mistake. Elliott was on track to lead the most laps, but during green flag pit stops, his crew chief lost track of Terry Labonte, allowing him to lead a lap and Alan to clinch the most laps led bonus. Junior Johnson fired the crew chief the moment the checkered flag flew lol

It's extremely underrated what you spoke about. Yes 10 points is more than 8 or 0, but the fact that Alan literally led one lap more and this error caused a 10 point swing on the most laps led bonus is just insane. Dumbest way anyone has lost a championship that was not from wrecking or blowing up?

We need points battles like this again. The present day battles for the Regular Season title are as close as we get to this, but that's never the focus thanks to the current format 😒

1992, 2004, 2011, and 2013 Between Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson instantly come to mind. That battle between Kenseth and Johnson was fun to watch.

2012 was crazy I mean think about it, if Jimmie Johnson doesn’t dnf at Phoenix and Homestead, that points gap would even be tighter, and he possibly could’ve won the championship. It’s just bad luck ,I mean both incidents were no fault of his own

Those 2 were neck and neck throughout the second half of the season, could never get away from each other. It was amazing to watch. Biffle was in there too but fell off once the chase came around.

I wouldn’t say that the new format “wiped out” points battles. If anything, it’s created sometimes 4 or 5 individual points battles in each season.
Yeah, maybe the season long cumulative points battle for the top spot is gone, but in the current format, the regular season, there’s the points battle for the regular season championship, which gives the champ a heap of playoff points to take with him to the playoffs. There’s also the battle at the playoff cut line, which more often than not comes down to a super dramatic points battle.
Then, there’s always a points battle in the round of 16, 12 and 8. There’s another 3 points battles in a season.
I do wish the current format would carry the playoff points into the championship 4 race, however. That would make stage points actually mean something and result in a points battle. The “win and in” idea could remain too and a championship 4 driver would automatically clinch the championship if he won the last race.

2004 is super underated 3 guys could have won the championship in the closing laps( Gordon Johnson Busch) Plus the 2 long shots in mark Martin and Dale Jr having shots at the cup as well. Another good 1 was 2010 and 2007

You need to go back and look at how tie breakers are resolved. Steward did not win the tie breaker because he was head of Edwards in the running order. The tie breaker is most wins. Steward had 5 to Edwards 1.

    Today's point system simply Sucks!!!
In my humble opinion, it's actually one of Nascar's Biggest Failures to date....
As it Boils down in today's system....It allows "anyone" who wins at least 1 race during the regular season, a chance at the Championship.
And if the stars line up just right and you played your cards just right. You "could" win the Championship by only winning one race. That being the last Race of the Season....
And if you really think about it, he'd only need to be ahead of the other 3 final contenders to be number 1... He wouldn't even "need" to Win at Phoenix either!!!
