    No joke, I let some very badly-stained white clothing soak in a bucket of water with a double dose of RESOLVE oxi-action for an entire week! It came out sparkling white without any trace of stains. It might not be the fastest way to get laundry done but it gave me great results!

Bleach yellows things I’ve learned on anything with stretch fabric like bras socks that aren’t cotton etc I’ve used with great success a soak cycle with calgon water softener for hard water and the borax give calgon a try but yes sometimes the fibers in fabric won’t get clean so when you buy new try the calgon once a month or week and soak whites

    Recently I watched a video to clean the range filters. Mine were super dingy, in spite of me regularly cleaning them. The video said to soak them in the sink filled with HOT water and baking soda. After soaking for 10-15 minutes, I added boiling water and let it sit a couple more minutes and began scrubbing. The sink water looked filthy and I can’t believe all I used was baking soda and hot water. I realized the reason my filters kept getting dirty so quickly is because I needed to clean the grease inside the range hood vent area. I used a scour daddy and dawn powerwash and all the grease came out!
    After all of this, I thought to apply the same concept to cleaning rags. I filled a medium sized trash can with some HOT sink water and a cup of baking soda. I soaked the rags for a few hours before washing them with detergent, oxiclean, baking soda, and washing soda. The cleaning rags turned out great! Not all the stains came out but they were bright and clean!
    I did the same thing with some dingy white clothes that I had. In the bucket with the hot water, I added oxiclean, washing soda, and borax. I soaked the clothes overnight. In the clothes was a white shirt that had some color transfer on it, a white shirt I had sprayed with Shout and washed twice but the stain was still vaguely there, among other dingy clothes. After soaking and washing, the results were impressive! I don’t know why more people don’t talk about simply soaking your clothes in hot water and baking soda or washing soda, or oxiclean. Try it! It really works!

    Have you tried aspirin? My partner was in a trip to Dallas and a woman at the laundromat gave him 10 regular aspirin when she noticed he had a lot of whites. • @pam_jackson
      @pam_jackson 3 года назад +11

      You are 100% correct. The sun will whiten things up and sterilize them. I leave them on the close line even after they are dry for a couple of hours. My mother also taught me that when I used cloth diapers back in the day. As for the blueing liquid works well on cotton but not so well on synthetic fabrics. I love cotton sheets so I use it occasionally on them. Also, bleach has a tendency to yellow cloth out over time.

    Andrea. Did you know that the oxi clean that you're using actually makes a specific OxiClean just for your whites?!!! I swear by it!!! I also keep a bucket by my wash tub full of 50/50 vinegar/ water and baking soda to soak my dish towels and dish rags in. I usually soak them the day before I am going to wash them. Just enough to cover the load. That works amazing also! from time to time throughout the day as I'm changing out other loads I will reach in with the rubber glove and swish the stuff around for better coverage. also if I noticed that stuff has more stains and isn't coming as clean I will add a little bit more vinegar. Just be prepared because it will cause that chemical reaction and the bucket could overflow. However I do bounce back and forth with the cleaning methods as I find that that works better. One more last thing to note... On the recommended usage, that is merely a recommendation. Try adding twice the amount of OxiClean recommended in a bucket or your washer. Add scalding hot water & put in a condiment bottle that you can squeeze to put on to spot clean. Just make sure to use an added extra rinse cycle.

Next morning I finish the cycle and set up a second wash with cold water and Dawn Powerwash (1/2 cup). The clothes are white, fresh, stripped of any bleach or softener residue and lovely to wear. It works better than the pens!! I prefer the kind that's clear, not the blue kind, because the color can transfer. However it will go away after a few washes. Because this is a direct application I make sure to rinse after a few minutes. Martha stewart used to have a downloadable stain removal guide on her website for free.

    First thing if you put fabric(s) in a dryer with stains on them - it won’t ever come out because you are essentially baking the Stan into the fabric fibers. But lye soap would normally take those stains out ( lye with real beef tallow).

    The best way to keep socks white is to first make it a rule not to walk around the house in them. Wear slippers only. The second tip is to wash white or light colored socks by hand hand at the end of the night. This also works for underwear. The longer the soiling stays on the garment the more it sets in. Of course most people won't keep up with this but there are some robot people out there that do this. Not walking around in socks, and only putting clean feet in shoes, also keeps fabric soles of the shoes from staining.

      I agree. Also you can make washing soda by placing baking soda on a baking sheet and placing it the oven. I've made it before and it works.

    The very best stain removal recipe is one I read about in the Tightwad Gazette years ago. Add 1 cup of Cascade dishwashing detergent and 1 cup of Clorox 2 to 5 gallons of the hottest water that comes out of your tap. After soaking overnight, wash like normal. It works great on all kinds of stains, but it's especially effective on biological stains (blood, poop, vomit).

    Would appreciate suggestions from the community. I learned the hard way using bleach with my current washing machine, a Maytag Bravos XL Steam model, maybe 4 -5 years old. I’m very careful about using bleach. For years I used a font-loader but never felt it got clothes really clean, or wet, for that matter so I went back to a top loader.
    The Maytag is a top-loader and has a huge drum. Too big and too deep now that I have had it all these years.
    Unfortunately, after using bleach during a white cycle, I noticed that the color wash I did a couple days later came out streaked in places. Apparently, bleach residue remained on the side of the drum. I think some even remained on the inside of the dryer drum because further streaking seemed to have occurred.
    I can’t use bleach anymore. Suggestions for something that will help with whites but safe for colors?
    P.S I loathe this particular Maytag model.

OXY white does a decent job as well particularly for heavier cottons also never let stains sit too long on a fabric. I never wash whites in hot water as they tend to yellow fabric at least in my experience. One more thing to add however I'm sure you already know this but to my surprise many people don't.
