- I made a game using Python and Pygame within the 48 hour time limit of the 14th Alakajam with the theme "Fungi". I only spent about 14 hours working on the game, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. Get the game (+ source code) here:

Nearly the whole thing was livestreamed as well:

Thanks for watching!
i was on the livestream!!! remember me!!?!?!!?
btw i love you dafluffypotato
I really like your style and what's more impressive is that everything is made with python.
It must've been a lot of work lol this is amazing
some of it was made in paint
@@spiralingsphere3785 Ofc the pixel art is not made with python. He means the game is made with python
Is python bad for making games?
@@mattoucas869 Depends on what you are trying to create. Python is quite slow, so you can really only do 2d games with "ok" performance. And really well written code is needed to improve performance.
I can't believe you've done all those gorgeus graphics with just Ms Paint!
MS Paint works perfectly fine for low resolution pixel art. lol
@@DaFluffyPotato Thank you for letting me realize such a stupidly simple fact. Rather than PS, you could go ahead and bring Paint up. Although, you'd have to be quite adept at pixel art to begin with to not need all the options PS and graphic editing software offer.
Yeah who knew this thing could be useful
@@thecoolnewsguy Yeah, I know it's capable, but it misses the utility functions to easier the editing process.
@@UTJK. that's ok because it's an old program and now that we have new windowses, it's become better with more utility functions
Woah this is just amazing. I LOVE your artstyle and those effect make everything 100% better. Even amazing how this is made in python. Love you stuff!
Super glad I stumbled upon your livestream. I was able to submit my first Alakajam entry because of this. Also, I've been watching your videos for almost 2 years now. I was always curious to know your thought process, and watch you code your Alakajam games so this was really inspiring. Keep making games man!
It was so cool, actually you are the reason why I started game development, the colors and the ambiance it feels like I can create my own world of dreams with games, still I just wanted to say thanks for inspiring me again, please keep it up☺️☺️
I can't even make this in 14 days. You're awesome
I'm impressed he makes all of the art in MS Paint :O
I was lucky enough to see the livestream live!
I'm so happy I got that chance first time ever
Amazing game as always! Good job!
Wow, the art is also fantastic. Can't belive you made it so fast.
I love how you made drawing a tree look easy.
I really like this, I've always made like software and websites but I really didn't get any joy out of that so I'm trying out game dev a bit and so far this stuff has brought me lots of inspiration
I love your design very much
Your games always give me ideas
Looks great! I love the music :)
Les go ! You improving everytime I see you again!
I'm impressed that you actually did some sound desgin stuff too :O
Oh shit! You are a frickin artist! I need more of this.
Really excited to play this game bro good work
(You are my inspiration bro)
sheesh you're so good man! you even know how to mix a music
It looks very nice ! Great job
It looks amazing! I would be extremely helpful if you could create a series of video tutorials on how you've built each component of the game.
I livestreamed it all
you inspire me so much!!! thanks ^^
I really like how those lights interrupt the darkness. That depicts the feel of forest's at night really well.
I wish i could help you build the sprites with my graphic skills lol! Great video btw !! Thanks !!
I like that lighting and the music ^^
"the farting mushroom" 🤣🤣 Nice game! Congrats!
This is so amazing! Man even made a beat
Wow that's fantastic, and the style looks super cool, by the way, which program you used yo create the map and then puting it inside python?
Good job bro! Keep going.
really well done, mate!
Wow, great job, how much experience do you have in this field?
Wow... You draw in MS Paint... It looks good. Nice work.
Duuuude you're a fuccing genius!!1! You'll be big one day...
I like that style, specialy the grass moving under u
Awesome work! :)
AWESOME NICE TEXTURES!
Great work and what you suggest for the game developer.
You are really good at pygame
awesome that you chosed paint looks innovative from other programs
That’s great! As always
I love all the detail you added into the game such as the little fireflies - how did you get them to move in that way? is it just random or is there something else?
random speed + periodically changing the direction randomly. the position is using a modulo to loop and stay on screen
@@DaFluffyPotato ah ok thank you for telling me :)
Looks great! Question though, do you code sign your games? I’ve made games with pygame but all of them bring up an “unknown publisher” warning and I cant be bothered to buy a cert
no
I'm curious, why not just use Aseprite instead of the paint tool for all art assets?
That's pretty cool!
Wow man thats amazing!!
its very amazing ✨, god job bro
lol the man made whole the background using paint, what a legend! xd
You are my hero you are awesome 🧡🧡🧡 I also decided to start learning pygame seriously
Do what you want, but wouldn't it be better to learn Godot ?
@@daniel-zh9nj6yn6y godot is like completely gamedev but I wanna do some AI kind of stuff so that's why
@@prateek5497 Oh, OK
ngl ms paint is under rated. ive used it for a while and its amazing to see someone as big as you make somethign with it.
Hi I'm curious why most game devs usually put all of their sprite into one single large image? Also is this method efficient and recommended in pygame? And does the system fetch that specific sprite on the image when they need to load, if so how?
It’s just easier to draw on
You are a genius man
woahhh this is so impressive
Beautifully 🕹
Beautiful .
sick stuff
it's unreal ! Cool !
I swear god that is amazing
How can this become an actual game like with logo and all which is realesable on steam etc please explain and will show on like desktop's main screen
when i started the vid i was like, WHAT???? YOU USIN PAINT???? but after some time i was like, AAHA, ASEPRITE!!!!
very impressive
What software did you used for building the game?
nice gaem!
I love your game and your art, but could you do a video on lighting like this ?
maybe
@@DaFluffyPotato Yes, please, i would definately watch that.
@@EshanTahir same
ms paint, python and fl studio, great work dude
how do you take care of the art in under 14 hours while coding?
That's impressive
Congrats!!!!
How did you do the lighting?
Nice
Are you using paint to make the graphics???0_0
that painting template, could you provide us that?
muito bom!
Noones gunna point out the point that the shroom ejaculates everytime there’s movement? 😭😭nonetheless this is impressive!
Can someone explain the .json file? I'm confused as it seems it isn't imported into python
It’s imported in through my tile_map module.
paint is best art program. I must use it.
what editor is that?... I don't recognise the UI
Amazing ✨✨✨👏🏻👌🏻
I always forgot how useful ms pain is.
Wooow, it very nice
Cool!
How the hell you did that with paint?😅
Are you using a laptop or desktop?
increíble capooo
Epic
great
Is there a way to use it on Iphone?
what level editor is that
I made it
@@DaFluffyPotato I would really, really, really love to learn more about that, and how you did it.
need a tutor please, that freakin' cool!!!!
Hey I have a request can you make some videos on Google Kickstart or code jam use python plzz if you have time 💜
You're great
should i learn flask or django?
Django is more in demand for jobs, so I would say Django. It is more scalable than flask though Django is harder to learn than flask
@@saketsavarn1673 i feel people only wants node js developer rather than django, i love python but I'm afraid when it comes to demand
Bruh ur actually know what ur doing without googling every 5 secends
Umm, you aren't drawing those assets with mouse, right? Right?
I did
You're Amazing, please do more videos about how to create games
nice!!!
My man used ms paint for such beautiful art that is the most impressive thing
Good game.
14 hours for a game. Do you know why in 2000s a game like this would take a weeks to do? Because if you would want to program an apple in 2000s, you would have to pre-code apple tree, soil, Earth, sun, Milky Way and whole universe.
cool
why u used paint in beggin but not asseprite
