  • Fun, more fun, KTM 890 Duke R! It's a real joy to see how lively, agile and sporty the compact KTM can be hurled through tight corners. But is fun alone really enough - can the 890 Duke R hold its own against its tough rivals Ducati Monster SP, Kawasaki Z900 SE, Triumph Street Triple RS and Yamaha MT-09 SP?

Best road bike hands down. No bike has the same balance of touque and handling. Its a fun bike. Not practical perhaps as your only bike, but it will put a smile on your face.

I feel Yamaha is targeting this bike with the 2024 MT-09.

great stuff ! only one comment , not offering a QS up and down and having to pay extra to unlock all the packs are both hard negatives and they should be taken into account as such when making a comparison in order to buy

Any owners of this bike. How has the reliability been?

Chris, I've got 10,000 km on mine. Problems have been a faulty pressure sender which caused the brake light to flicker on and off...fixed under warranty...a slow leak of coolant from an incorrectly tightened hose clamp at the thermostat....fixed under warranty..and the switch that allows you to pull the clutch in to start the bike wasn't working...a wire had come loose....also fixed for free. I saw that some 890 owners were experiencing serious wear on the cams, so last weekend I took the rocker cover off and checked them. No undue wear. (Yay!) I don't flog the arse off the bike..just the occasional redline...and I do oil and filters at 5,000km intervals... These issues aren't perfect but, gotta tell you, the bike is worth it. If it got stolen tomorrow, I would be straight down tp to the KTM shop to buy another while they're still available. And apparently now with a 4 year warranty on the cams. I've been riding since 1975 and it's the best motorcycle I've ever ridden bar none. All the best from Tasmania.

Switch between riding modes on the KTM is over complicated. Reliability is also subpar compared to the Yamaha.

It has shortcuts. You can choose with 3 button presses easily. Two times the same button and then the set button
