I think the function is an essential part of the feedback you can give to a RUclipsr and differentiates youtube creators from TV shows. It gives you, like the comment section, the opportunity to directly give the content creator feedback. This is especially important when they are trying out new stuff and ideas, so they can maybe adjust something or see what their audience likes and not. So, I agree with you to the extent that you should not just click on a video to dislike it. But if you watched a video, I do not see a problem to give your genuine opinion.
