I spent three weeks in Istanbul à long time ago. It was in autumn 1990 and due to the growing international tensions in the Middle East there were few tourists in town. I spent several hours invited by shopkeepers in Harasta market and one of them made me encounter the Imam of Sultan Ahmet mosque. It was impressive. We had a conversation in Arabic and à little group of worshippers sitting on the beautiful carpets around us were listening with great respect due to the prestige of this man of religion. As I had mentionned that I was interested in Islamic philosophy he clasped his hands and gave orders that I didn't understand because I did'nt speak Turkish at the time and I saw some of the attendants take books from the shelves around the place and put them on the floor. The imam said then to me that I could look at these books and take the ones in which I was interested... I bought a small hereke carpet from the store I was invited to in order to chat and drink tea. One of the employees explained to me that this market was initially stalls for the horses of the Sultan.
Actually not. Arasta is, for the places with the many shops that are selling similar items in a place, next to each other. And its origin is Persian, being used in Turkish too but very rarely.
@@tub2020 thank you, last time when i was in Istanbul i was there, and then i was look online and i found this that i wrote, obviously there are a lot different info about things online 🙂
Davud Bey, meaning of Aarasta in urdu is decorated and embellished. Your videos are captivating and keep me glued on till the end, as you explain everything so nicely that keep viewers intrigued. Thankyou for this content.

We'll be there for the new year, thanks for the video for remind me to visit - def. will pay a visit..Less crowded and give me the "business" haha LOL Thanks! Great scarves/hats shops...cheaper from Switzerland LOL 47CHF = 60USD+.
It's the fault of local municipality which doesn't promote for people to go to that hidden bazaar. I was so surprised to find this bazaar from another side direction where there's a lot of cheap accommodations.
Asalamalykum dear bro "David" Dauvd. Orausta: is Dari word, Afghanistan people use it for girls name. It means being righteous, clarify, making inner and outer beautiful.....
Davud Jan, you have a Persian name, you have visited Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan (all Persian speaking) and as you know Azerbaijan, Turkey and Uzbekistan all have very strong Persian Farsça language influence.. but you give Persian and Persians very little mention or any credit.. LOL anyway Arasta is Persian from the a Persian word Arasteh آراسته, call Noor your Afghan guide or your Iranian contacts.. the meaning of Arasta Bazar in Persian means Adorned, or Ornate or “Decorated” Bazar.. it also can mean tasteful also in Persian. Don’t forget Ottoman Turkish is often 60 percent Persian vocabulary… I know you are young but these cultures from Uzbekistan to Turkey are all mixed with Persian language and culture extensively including your own Azerbaijani language Janim (Janam). We have more Azerbaijani people in Iran than the entire population of Azerbaijan 🙏 love your series on Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan. Btw do genealogy, you will find out you have a lot of Persian genetics 🧬 Love 💕 you 😊
The very same genealogy will also prove that there is a huge percentage of Turkish genetics among Persians. It's a two-way street. Persia has also been greatly influenced by Turkic rulers 😉
Arasta in persian language is meaning beautiful, pretty, clean
