I spent three weeks in Istanbul à long time ago. It was in autumn 1990 and due to the growing international tensions in the Middle East there were few tourists in town. I spent several hours invited by shopkeepers in Harasta market and one of them made me encounter the Imam of Sultan Ahmet mosque. It was impressive. We had a conversation in Arabic and à little group of worshippers sitting on the beautiful carpets around us were listening with great respect due to the prestige of this man of religion. As I had mentionned that I was interested in Islamic philosophy he clasped his hands and gave orders that I didn't understand because I did'nt speak Turkish at the time and I saw some of the attendants take books from the shelves around the place and put them on the floor. The imam said then to me that I could look at these books and take the ones in which I was interested... I bought a small hereke carpet from the store I was invited to in order to chat and drink tea. One of the employees explained to me that this market was initially stalls for the horses of the Sultan.
Loved visiting the Arasta Bazaar in May last year, we're back in Türkiye to continue our road trip this year in April! Thanks for your awesome insights and content!
I hae been visiting Istanbul and I think it is the most beutiful city in Europe, the places, the food, I looved it very much and looking forward to visit it again soonest.
Wow MashaAllah super choice DAVUD 💗👌 so reasonable prices love 😘 the shop Araasta mean decorated and you described very accurate MashaAllah lovely 🌹 Davud
We were there last year around the same area. We visited this bazaar couple of times. Our hotel was there before you enter this bazaar straight up ahead. There are lots restaurants around that area and top of the restaurant hotels for stay over.
Actually not. Arasta is, for the places with the many shops that are selling similar items in a place, next to each other. And its origin is Persian, being used in Turkish too but very rarely.
@@tub2020 thank you, last time when i was in Istanbul i was there, and then i was look online and i found this that i wrote, obviously there are a lot different info about things online 🙂
Davud Bey, meaning of Aarasta in urdu is decorated and embellished. Your videos are captivating and keep me glued on till the end, as you explain everything so nicely that keep viewers intrigued. Thankyou for this content.
Thank you so much for pointing out Arasta Bazaar, which is a far more enjoyable place to visit than the Grand Bazaar. I'm surprised you didn't mention the Great Palace Mosaics Museum. Not far from Arasta is the Nakkaş Rugs shop, which sits atop an old Byzantine cistern, which has been turned into an art gallery. Unlike the better known Basilica cistern near Ayasofya, there are no crowds, no lines, and no admission fee, and no pressure to buy things! Nakilbent cistern is a cool, dark refuge, far from the madness around the Hippodrome.
Wow beautiful sun shining on clean streets . Beautiful people and beautiful country. I am really enjoying sunshine with beautiful views. I love fresh juices. A Shop you visited looks like there are historic things inside . When you buy things from historic shop they are for decoration and it is remembrance of old times obviously it is not for wearing. If you wear it’s your choice. Historic things are quite attractive for decoration even hat. Visiting historic places is a part of tourism. Obviously people want to know in this modern world what was Turkish history. Ottoman Empire was quite famous history in the world. Today turkey is quite modern country with a lot of modern , historic and religious beautiful mosques.
Nice video, your video rewind my memory there. Turkey has good quality in textile, clothing or home textile like table cloths, cushions, towels also accessories, very nice design. Surpised that shop make copy of Van cleef and Arpels , this is French luxury jewellery brand and expensive , mostly made from 18 carat gold . I have Never been to this bazaar, good to know 👍.
Davud infact turkey is very beautiful turkey and azarbaijan bave some similarities.they are super nice but azarbaijan is less populated enjoy your travels🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Thanxs for this video. I am so happy you tell as about this bazar. Iz so much better and nicer than Grand bazar. Can’t wait to visit this bazar in March this year🥰🤣
We'll be there for the new year, thanks for the video for remind me to visit - def. will pay a visit..Less crowded and give me the "business" haha LOL Thanks! Great scarves/hats shops...cheaper from Switzerland LOL 47CHF = 60USD+.
Everytime I visit Istanbul, I visir there after visiting touristic places. The bazaar is well organised and have interesting stuffs and the quality of the items are better but the choice is limited and overpriced. However the bazaar is not overcrowded so tourist can relax and enioy more. Personally I like this bazaar but for certain items, I would rather go to the Grand Bazaar because some shops do have better quality goods and cheaper. Of course if you know the market reasonably well and where to go.
It's the fault of local municipality which doesn't promote for people to go to that hidden bazaar. I was so surprised to find this bazaar from another side direction where there's a lot of cheap accommodations.
