Dune may be the next Lord of the Rings. But Star Wars? No way. It just doesn't have the same appeal to younger audiences. Lord of the Rings sort of did, but it was more older kids/preteens.

DUNE to me is like a mature individual awesome Sci-Fi. Star Wars appeal to a lot of people and especially to kids. Because Star Wars and light sabers appeal to kids, it’s going to find a wider audience in my opinion who are enamored with light saber action. DUNE to me in its philosophical mature theme isn’t necessarily going to appeal to 3-12 year old kids. I’m in my mid 40s, I grew up watching watch Star Trek mostly, Star Wars but I’ve never been crazy about it and DUNE even having seen the original film. I love great Sci-Fi movies even especially Space Odyssey. As a kid I also read the DUNE books as well. The film today I’d appreciate being made and to watch in all its Sci-Fi glory is DUNE. I can only hope for its film continuation to bring the other books in the story continuation to life. Still not everything is for everyone, but you can still appreciate a good film even if it’s not your taste.

If any actress deserves to be Samantha Stephens and her cousin Serena in the Bewitched remake it's Elizabeth Olsen. She would fit the role originated by Elizabeth Montgomery so well. In fact during Wanda Vision episode 1 she reminded me of the late actress. Especially her mannerisms. Michelle Pfeiffer would make a fabulous Endora.

1:15:09 just hold on to this memory and imagine if they did this with all adaptations instead of all the not caring about casting or how the world or characters look or feel, swapping etc etc.
Is that not crucial to the storytelling experience?
At least if you really wanna make something truly great?
you can still make something of quality, but when it all comes together in a way that really hits the majority zeitgeist's imagination, you can really get something beyond special.
Why wouldn't we want that? is what I wonder.
if you look at all the greats and beloved adapted films, most have this quality.
It's possible its a coincidence, but man thats quite a massive coincidence if it is

American football is based on Canadian football. Canadian football is about a decade or more older. Baseball was also from Ontario (Canada), but the Americans then codified the rules (reduced the bases from 5 to 3). A Canadian also invented the baseball glove. So hockey, football, baseball are all from Canada, and basketball was invented by a Canadian, who further developed it while living in Massachusetts as a professor.

    • @ke5943
      @ke5943 9 месяцев назад +1

To be honest I get it. On my first watch I thought it was a little dull. The music was fantastic, the cinematography and art design superb, but the major shory beats felt undercooked (his fathers story especially) and the story overall felt like I’d seen this movie too many times before (white savior / hero’s journey etc). Action felt serviceable.
Despite this, I gave it a second watch at home a while later and loved it. All my criticisms remained, but this time I fell under a kind of spell with the tempo. The very thing that felt slow and dull now seemed hypnotic and drew me in. In short, I feel like it’s very much a mood piece. You have to come to the movie, it doesn’t come to you if you know what I mean. There’s just a vibe about it all that I love. The world building is perfect and much like something like Avatar, I feel like I could spend hours there despite the somewhat overly familiar story beats.
Im hoping D2 builds on this but adds better story beats and something that feels a little more thrilling story wise if not surprising. In short, I now love it (seen it 5 times), but I get why some people don’t.

I disagree with the statement that you cant compare Dune with star wars. SO many of the elements of the book dune were taken / inapired within the creation of star wars. The voice = the force. The backdrop of buddist similarities of the jedi and buddist monks = the backdrop of dune and the muslim faith. The spice idea was literally taken and used in a mandalorian episode. The idea of a sand planet. Sand worms = jabba the hut. And so much more. I actually think it is important to compare the two.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but if you say "dune is boring" then your opinion is just not one I care about hearing lol. You either have to hate sci fi, or have no appreciation for good filmmaking, or you need acton every 5 seconds to keep you entertained, otherwise it's impossible to come to that conclusion.

Personally I did not enjoy Dune: Part I. I think it created a lot of fake tension with Paul's visions taking place in critical moments that in no way made me believe his life was ever in danger (he's the lead in risk of death in the beginning and second half of a movie with a sequel on the way), a lot of his visions felt like a trailer for the second movie, and despite constantly getting visions of important events his father's death wasn't one of them. Frankly I can't even remember the characters or their names except Paul, his mom, dad and Zendeya from the visions.
On top of that, there was the pacing issue.
I understand why the movie is paced the way it is, it did all the heavy lifting of building up the lore.
The fact, that Part II will be unburdened from the lore building of the first, means it is bound to be far better than the first excites me. BUT because I don't remember anything from Part I, I have to rewatch it at home and I'm not looking forward to that.
