That is a good question. Zigbee is a standard, but how it is implemented in the target system is not. What I mean that the Sonoff Zigbee gateway can probably see the data from the device, but way the data is sent from the knob is not something which is implemented in Sonoff. Sonoff sells a zigbee button, so I have expected at least the button action to be recognized. But most probably the dial/knob sends the data in a different format that the Sonoff system does not recognize. This is why I don't expect anything to work in Sonoff where there is not already a similar Sonoff product. For example a radiator valve, or wind sensor. They probably only support messages for which they already have a device for.
Great timing - I had spotted this and was tempted, but Ive already reached my toy spending limit for a while so needed to know if it worked and if it was worth it - will probably order it soon :)
I use the tuya app and it doesn't work there. After pairing with the zigbee gateway, only the led controller was shown to me, which I can control with the rotary button. I can't control anything else, I can't even create scenes.
Yes, for any Zigbee device you need a zigbee bridge that is compatible with the system you want to use it. For example a Sonoff Zigbee Bridge for the eWeLink app, or a Tuya compatible Zigbee Bridge.
How do you set in Tuya / Smart Life the press and rotate scene? In your video it doesn’t seem to show this option (only switch 1 clicks and knob clockwise / anti-clockwise)
Wait, it doesn’t work with a sonoff Zigbee 3.0 stick? I bought one of these mostly to control the volume on my non-smart audio receiver that I’m controlling with an IR controller.
Does it report the number of turns that a user makes? Reason I'm asking is because I'm looking for a rotary sensor I can attach to the spindle of a roller garage door to count and report to number of rotations (hopefully in degrees) so I can deduce the exact amount the roller door is open/closed.
Hi! I've a zigbee dimmer switch connected to a normal bulb (not smart), This smart knob doesn´t dim the bulb with the dial, but I can turn on and off :(
For Tuya, I use a Blitzwolf IS-1, but I think only IS-10 available now. For Zigbee2mqtt I have a Sonoff Zigbee Dongle 3.0 plugged into the USB port of my server.
Press and rotate is not available in software...and rotate is not variable in software, only gives you one brightness choice... For zigbee2mqtt to work it needs a dedicated server, no???
nice but I still love my tradfri rotary dimmers shame they no longer make them , Ipicked up like 20 of them for $1 when they put them on clearance I should have grabbed them all I had already bought like 8 of them for $10 too bad In didn't know they were going to be discontinued the battery does go pretty quickly but I found a good ebay seller for CR 2032 rechargables
does it work in home assistant with a conbee stick ?
Why is it not working with sonoff? I thought the zigbee protocol was open and universal

Look forward to trying this out with my Sonoff zigbee hub flashed with Tasmota!
So if I bought the dial it wont work unlesss I buy the ZigBee bridge? I downloaded all the Vivitar apps but I cant get it connect to dial :(

No, I did not manage to figure out either.

It works with the Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 dongle, but not with the Sonoff Zigbee gateway.
Hi Bro, what zigbee2mqtt software that u r using to detect the device? How to integrate with nodered?
Can the knob be used for direct binding with z2m?
I usually do all my control login inside Node-Red and not Z2M, but I don't see any reason why it would not work.
@@csongorvargagotchya, tahnks. As for why - most of the tuya devices dont follow the spec for that sadly.

Good idea, but no it does not. Only reports the velocity of the rotation, but in only a few gradiants. So this is no use for you.
Thank you, i bought one to try.
Just wish it had rechargeable battery...this is the cheapest smart button out there, do you know any other cheaper one???
This is the only one I own right now. The battery life is not that bad ot be honest.
Nice, finally a review on this sonos volume controller looking clone
Hi Great vidoe and just the thing I was looking for can you please check if can work with Home Assistant via conbee. Thank 😊

But why you need the gataway?
i got one but i can not get it to add intelligence to the actions the app give a "Binding Failure"
Hello Csongor , What zigbee gateway do you use for these things ?
For Tuya, I use a Blitzwolf IS-1, but I think only IS-10 available now. For Zigbee2mqtt I have a Sonoff Zigbee Dongle 3.0 plugged into the USB port of my server.
Is it work with wifi bulb?
You can configure the scenes in Tuya to control a wifi bulb. Maybe perfect control, but yes.
Press and rotate is not available in software...and rotate is not variable in software, only gives you one brightness choice...
For zigbee2mqtt to work it needs a dedicated server, no???
Yes, zigbee2mqtt needs to run on a different server (or a server which could run other stuff as well).
thank you
I find this knob very unresponsive. And it took me awhile to setup the scenes. Didn’t realize the knob had two modes

Double click needs to have the device in event mode rather than command mode.
Ahhh, Chinese 3M! Or “M3” as I like to call it :)
Double click probably will be in *event mode*.
I need anger vedoie
