i was into him for the whole 17 minutes. no great humour or big events. A simple story, a great lesson and an awesome story teller. Wish i had his power
One of the best talks I’ve seen on storytelling. As a memoir coach myself, I so relate to this message. Owning and telling our stories is one of the most powerful things we can do.
Wow, this is so inspiring! So as a person who struggling with my storytelling skills, this is the biggest tip I learned from this ted talk. Tell the same story again and again from different perspectives. Do this until you live through all the different characters in that story. Do this until you feel like you are changing through your story.
As a storyteller and coach I found this story / lesson profound. These are stories that a life can be built around. I wish I had heard this when I was a young man. I will share with others at my yearly youth leadership program and Stories that Matter program. Well Done Donald! Profound use of story.
The video is not about storytelling. It about the rocks that sit on top of our lives. These rocks are living to have their stories told over and over again.
This story moved me to tears, though this is not the first time I've heard it. Donald Davis is America's greatest story teller and a national treasure. He is also the nicest man you could want to know. If he is performing near you, you must go see him. This is one of my two favorite Donald Davis stories. The other, also told to Donald by his father, is about when Donald was born. I was fortunate to have heard Donald tell stories in person since around 1995.
I can’t express myself enough about how deeply I was moved by this talk. I even organized a workshop based on this for design students at a university. I experienced the happiest day of my life thanks to this amazing talk. Dear Donald, my utmost appreciation and thanks !!!
Wonderful, thank you Donald.... “if you don’t tell this story when you are 50 years old you will be 5 again and simple lament...” Wow. Moved me to tears,
Great storyteller. He made the story so meaningful, above all, I can see the story is the storyteller. I feel very lucky to have found this video. Thank you.
Thank you Donald! You masterfully described something I knew but couldn't articulate. Now that I found the words I will tell that story forward. Respect :)
Thank you Donald, you are a fabulous story teller, and very inspiring! In grade school I grew up hearing I would rather be dead than red in the head. Yep, I was a little freckled faced red haired girl. That to, changed who I was but I never talked about it much, I will now as I see how important it is to. Thank you , a message for everyone!!!
Brings me back to my childhood listening to his CDs. I would listen to nothing but Donald Davis and Bill Jones. I'm lucky my grandma showed me the value of storytelling and how it can spread happiness and widen the imagination of anyone.
Tony Bennett played this for the UVA basketball team on the first day of practice for the 2018-2019 basketball season (after becoming the first #1 seed to lose to a 16 seed to end the previous season). It became the theme of the season, which ended in a national championship.
not a lesson in writing - but a lesson in coping with a disability - it's probably natural that the grandmother was behind it in some way - using talk as therapy or catharsis is more common among women - men tend to deal with trauma silently and alone
“You are not telling the story to change what happened. You are telling the story to change you.” What a delight to listen to this man.
Wow!!!
Never have I accidentally watched a TedX Talk that impacted me in such a timely manner!
Hands down best Ted talk I've ever heard
The best story I have heard yet. Thank you Donald Davis.

What an homage to his father and to his grandmother. Well done!
I could listen to this man telling stories every day of the week. Beautiful.
Thanks for revealing the science of storytelling and making it accessible to anyone who has a story... everyone!

"If you don't tell the story, it sits on you like a rock." It makes me wonder how much a story can weigh.
Amazing.
Fabulous.
I found a better storyteller than Donald Davis.
- No one. Ever.
Wvo is it ? 🙂
Alex
The lesson of the story is : something good/positive may come out of a bad accident or a negative experience. Sometimes things happen for a reason.
Brilliant
soulful
Give this to all the Influencers, and tell their stories. Oh! give this to students too 🧐😇.
Beautiful
beautiful
Nice.
I saw Donald Davis at the Sierra Storytelling Festival in Nevada City!

yes he is interesting
🙏🙏🙏🙌🙌👏🧡🧡🧡
why this video has so little likes
Because when something profoundly affects you, you sit there, thinking, and forget the mundane about you... and forget.
thought the title said how transformers transform, but stayed for the story
Has the voice of a pastor lol
Haha, turns out he was actually a pastor if u ever see this.
This is the lost art of storytelling.
Storytelling comes from Jonesborough, TN the first weekend of October every year
@@thisisamistake7771 i really want to visit sometime in future...

well spent 17 & half minutes
Excellent. Need to get it to the gangbangers, wackos, billionaires, warmongers, haters, and politicians.
