    Amen, only reason I watch the sunrise from the tree is bc it’s hard to beat such scenery, but I’m not expecting deer until after 9am. Like you I can count on half a hand how many I’ve seen that first hour of daylight. Now dusk is a diff story, but most of my deer killed have been between 1100 and 1400. But I’m a morning person and I love being up before or as the suns rising.

    This very much depends on the setup, area, time of year, etc... Where I'm at during the hard rut and late rut, a hug buck went thru right at daylight on a cold day several times, and then the rest of the bucks went through continually from 8 to 11 a.m. and some in the later afternoon...This year I shot a monster of a lifetime buck at 4 pm, and then another dandy bow buck at 10:45 a. m.

    I always get to sleep my mornings in and show up to public late morning when all the hunters are leaving the woods. They think I’m crazy but deer that live on highly pressured land in deed do pattern hunters. They know when a majority of hunters leave the area with that small window of opportunity for them to roam more freely, And I’ve witnessed it first hand 15 years ago. I’ve taken many deer doing this plus the thermals are pulling in my favor by that time frame

  • @country_gbrony721
    @country_gbrony721 3 года назад +1

    Great advice for people that have a hard time waking up. I can’t really shake the mental game that if I’m not in the woods at daylight I have to wait till the afternoon. I had a buck cross the driveway at 11:00 while I stacked wood. I could’ve been in stand at 10:00 and killed him as he walked right by my stand. I think the morning and evening sits began because that’s when deer move “most” since they are crepuscular. Naturally, hunters want to be in the woods when the odds of seeing a deer are the highest. Most deer I’ve killed in the morning have been after 8 and after 3 in the evening with the last hour being the best. I’ve killed a few midday but the action definitely seems slower. But I also don’t hunt much midday because of impatience.

    I don’t usually hunt by the clock, I usually hunt by the moon, and if I feel like deer are going to move that day or not, i’ve shot one of the biggest 10 Point bucks I ever killed at 1 PM, I used to hunt every single day twice a day for the whole hunting season which is more than 90 days, and I might only get seven or eight deer, now you can only get three bucks, so I usually get one in the freezer and then slack up a little bit trying to make sure the other two are pretty big bodied deer, and of course you can get a doe a day but I don’t shoot mama deer, at least not on my hunting land.

    Very much depends on how/where you set up your hunts. Many hunters place stands in locations that favor those early morning or late evening deer movements and those locations may be very non-productive for mid-day. The solution for that is to change your strategy and hunt locations where deer are more likely to move mid-day, most likely, deeper in the woods, close to bedding areas, and travel corridors between those areas. It is enjoyable to watch the woods come alive at first light, deer or no deer.

    • @SamkoTradBow

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  3 года назад +1

      I do not. Never carried a gun for animal protection before. With the exception of when I have my wife or daughter with me. Then I carry to protect them bit mostly from people. Now if I was out west I'd carry because of the lions. But bears don't worry me. I have had so many encounters with bears and they want nothing to do with you. I used to chase them out of my yard in my underwear yelling at them and running as fast as I could for a hundred yards to scare them away. Didn't want them hanging around my house when my kids were little. But if you want to carry a gun for protection there is absolutely nothing wrong with that!! If you have any questions on good calibers or how to carry I can help ya. I'm a huge fan of carrying in the woods even though I don't personal do it much.
