We didn't see Divergent when it was in theaters, but the critical and audience reception was... mixed, to put it mildly. We found it to be pretty terrible, actually, regardless of its sin count. It just so happens to also have a high sin count, so, make of that what you will. Here are the sins of Divergent.

Nadia Rizvan That’s so true
Strangely they kinda touch in this in the books. Tris has nightmares of slightly similar to this.
I'm rereading Divergent and that thought crossed my mind too
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@JAMS Dream I was about to comment this; I reread parts of the book this morning. It didn’t dawn on me until this comment that Tris has this huge fear of getting found out as a Divergent, and yet it’s never addressed. Bit of a plot hole, but I don’t know how I would’ve addressed it as an author.
you can be in any faction you want even if the test says you're in one specific faction, however if the test says you can be in any faction that's illegal
omg never realized this 😂
The test tells you the faction you would *best* fit in. You can choose whichever you want.
its worse than gacha logic, now its just detergent logic
@@juno2871 Which honestly defies the very logic of the book, especially considering how bad Divergents are supposed to be.
@@Mandy-nv1tx I looked up "Gacha." It literally means those machines where you put a coin in a slot, turn a handle and an egg rolls out containing a mystery prize. These are collectable, so it can mean "collectable" or "figurine." About computer games, it means ones where you pay real money for virtual collectables or gambling. I've played the game "Gacha Memories" which is completely free. In this game, someone called Luni sends you and others on missions, so I guess the you've been gachad (collected) (added to a collection)
(or turned into an action- figure) not sure what "gacha logic" is.
honestly the BIGGEST issue with this universe is the fact that they make the kids choose a faction at sixteen. Sixteen! When your personality is the MOST volatile and subject to change! Have you ever met a sixteen-year-old? Everyone would be in dauntless!
I know right, adults are too old to understand what their 16 years old phase was. They want to cater to the masses, thats its okay for 16 year olds to experience this. Ill only understand making characters these if they really need them, like end of the world and there isn't enough of them around.
I am a sixteen-year-old, and I agree - my dream job changes every 3 month or so, like I actually understand I want to do it more than anything, and then... it just changes. Also I wouldn't be in Dauntless - I would much rather go in Erudite. My complaint is that only Dauntless fraction there seems to have a tattoo and piercing studio - like come on, I want it too! :D
Maybe bc the study is far different from the story. Its fiction for a reason
No, 16-year-olds are gonna be like: "You know what, I think I hate lying. Telling the truth is my thang. Also Candor sounds way more fun." /s
I feel like it make more sense for them all to start in dauntless then chose what they want later in life

@@sukhkaransingh8369 well if u knew more about the series (books and/or movies), you would know thag the movies (mainly the second and third) are spinoffs of the book. The storyline is not the same.
Because the divergents have too much control on their selves, as a person. The factions were meant to control the population. Having multiple factions inside yourself throws the control out the window. Can't control a variable.
U need to read the books. It makes a lot of sense in the end.
I like how she says at the end "we have no family, no home" but her brother is standing right behind her...

I was in 4th grade when this movie came out and everyone was bragging like “omg I’m Divergent like Tris!!” lmao (and yes I read the books I know how the whole Divergence thing is explained in Allegiant but still)
Actually, that's a bit of a major plot point which I'll try to explain below, just note it's huge spoiler for the series.
.

Honestly, I don't remember a whole lot, but iirc long before the events of the books, humanity has become super terrible. Basically like Sodom and Gomorrah mixed in with some Nazi Germany levels of terrible. And so to combat this, the government basically brainwashed everyone to just exhibit only one personality trait with the hope that when people only have one personality trait, they'll be less murder-y, and eventually, they'll be able to start learning other personality traits and become functioning and normal humans again. Don't ask me why that's the best option they came up with, I don't remember, but that's the rundown at least.
AJ Tomeček don't worry about spoiling it haha, I've read all three books and watched the movies and I just forgot some of this 😂 also thanks!
AJ Tomeček oh that explains a lot. I forgot about some stuff from the book so that really helps thank you!!
When he said, “They’re human right?” They are, the have been genetically modified to only have those specific attributes. You would know this if you read the books
Natalya Guiden yeah I did read the books except I read them a long time ago
It pisses me off that they made Tobias 24 years old instead of 18. It's a bit weird because Tris is 16..ack. The book is so much better.
yeesss i was thinking that too, its like uhhhh...
I forgot that’s actually canon in the movie.
I know. For some reason a lot of movie adaptations of books make their characters a WHOLE lot older. For example, Jonas from the Giver is supposed to be 12 (its the ceremony of 12) but, in the movie he's 18 and the ceremony is called the ceremony of 18. I understand it because it'd be a little weird to have a 12 year old be the main character of the movie, but still.
@@izzypaige07 bruh in percy jackson it went from 13 to fucking 17. i hate movie adaptation they get nothing righttt
Except allegiant fucking sucked.
9:27 Four’s point is that Dauntless isn’t smart or conscious enough to realize that what she is experiencing isn’t real. Usually they don’t question it because of fight of flight, meaning that their brain doesn’t think logically, it just goes on instinct. Since their brain tells them they’re in a dangerous situation, all it says is to panic and find a way to survive. But Tris soon realizes that none of it is real, which is not what a Dauntless usually does in a situation. Since all of them have survival instincts, their brain doesn’t stop to think that it may or may not be real. She also somehow knows that she can break the glass by just tapping on it.
Yes, because Tris has no survival instinct. Well-put.

1:41 it is rare for a person to show multiple traits because of the backstory. Turns out the factions were created because a couple hundred years ago people were fucking around with genetics and genetic therapy, with the ability to control how smart, selfless, brave, kind or truthful people were through this dna manipulation. The dna manipulation fucked over mankind because if you're too intelligent, you lose kindness, if you're too brave you're reckless, etc. essentially causing a war. The creators of this dystopia created the faction system to keep the peace AND to see if they could slowly revert back to unmodified humans, calling those who were still genetically effected by the dna modification "damaged" and those who weren't, the divergents, "pure"
well you see, this is pointless. He's rating/reviewing the movie. And the movie did NOT explain or tell us that at all or in any way. Which is exactly why he's "sinning" it
@@fernandarivas9677 they do explain it though in the movies, just later in the trilogy
@@fernandarivas9677 The thing is, it's the trilogy. The first movie/book is just a set up of the world, and the whole story unravels in subsequent movies/books. So here we just have to accept the rules of the fictional world and go with it. Basically we learn all that along with characters, who just leave in this world of factions and believe that is what's supposed to be.
Sorry for stating the obvious, but that's the thing with any fictional world, it can have any rules different from real world, and that's what makes all these stories interesting ))))
"Two minutes is not enough time to do anything, let alone wake up."
Assuming Dauntless is emulating military training, then that's actually fairly generous.
We got 6 mins to get up, get dressed, shaved, brushed teeth, and downstairs in uniform. All of which takes longer with 50 people at once sharing spaces. 6 minutes to shower, 6 minutes to eat once sat down in the chow hall. 2 minutes is, as you say, plenty.

Did you come to this video to know how to make pancakes! Then this is your lucky day!

100g plain flour
2 large eggs
300ml milk
1 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil, plus a little extra for frying
lemon wedges, to serve (optional)
caster sugar, to serve (optional)
*Method:*
Put 100g plain flour, 2 large eggs, 300ml milk, 1 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil and a pinch of salt into a bowl or large jug, then whisk to a smooth batter.
Set aside for 30 mins to rest if you have time, or start cooking straight away.
Set a medium frying pan or crêpe pan over a medium heat and carefully wipe it with some oiled kitchen paper.
When hot, cook your pancakes for 1 min on each side until golden, keeping them warm in a low oven as you go.
Serve with lemon wedges and caster sugar, or your favourite filling. Once cold, you can layer the pancakes between baking parchment, then wrap in cling film and freeze for up to 2 months.
2 months... Nice!
How did you know?1
That's not enough flour and you have no leavener. Double the flour and add 2 1/2 teaspoons (10g) baking powder. A pinch of salt wouldn't go amiss, either.
I don't care if this is a meme or a joke. Pancakes are serious business.
Randy Riggs This is pancakes we make in sweden.
You should add how much of the batter should be used for each pancake.
As a matter of fact, yes, the other factions DO have secondary tests. If you fail your chosen faction's test then you are kicked out and have to live with the factionless. The Candor faction, for example, pumps you full of a truth serum and ask you emerging personal questions in front of everyone.
i remember that one from one of the books, but how do you fail the personal questions test? and i wonder what kind of tests the other two functions would have, especially tris' parents'
I remember that. Was hat from Insurgent or which one?
Also they would ask questions like “Did you receive outside help throughout the challenges?” And stuff like that to see if you’ve cheated.
Wouldn't giving them truth serum make it easier for them to tell the truth?
EMMIE Maybe you give them truth serum and ask them if they tell lies. Quick test!
nah the thing was if your greatest secret was out, then there would be no point in lying about anything. at least that's what the books say. an extremely problematic test, imo but whatever
5:55 This is actually something brought up in books about how some of the dauntless were corrupt and wanted to change things from being a good and helpful faction to a faction that just wanted to beat each other up to see who was the strongest.
"Some" of them? HA HA HA😆😆😆😆😆!!!!! Thanks for the joke!
Seriously, people CLAIM that these books/movies/series rip off other books/movies/series (like I care), but the DICK-LESS faction (they dishonor the concept of dauntlessness) might as well be a ripoff of "Fight club", because that's literally the ONLY thing that they DO! They should all have killed each other (& other people) long before they were ever old enough to JOIN the DICK-LESS faction.
I vividly remember being in Elementary school and seeing this movie for the first time. So, unfortunately it will always have a place in my heart. The song at the end will always be associated with this movie for me. Wish the other two films were as exciting💔

Rant Over.Hope I made sense.
Btw I'm comparing the book to the movie
I think it's honestly incredible that this trilogy got away with being almost identical to Maze Runner. Sure, both get grouped with Hunger Games, but MR and D follow almost entirely the same story arc through their three books.
The maze runner (books & movies) are okay(ish)(same for the Divergent books/movies/series), but they BOTH have RETAIRDO premises. The maze runners' premise is WAY worse though, as is their "solution" to it.
They even both delight in killing off MAIN characters. For me, that's NEVER forgivable.
The whole premise of this structure is impossibly lame. How is it possible that you can convince the whole of society that: 1) people have only one personality trait 2) there are only 5 personality traits 3) some people apparently have NO personality traits at all.
If I remember correctly, these people actually do typically only display one trait. Humanity like...broke itself through extensive modification or some such bs
@@waldrcla000 Traits naturally crossover. The dauntless would also have to be intelligent to pull off their stunts; if you're brave but stupid you won't last long. And the abnegates have to have a degree of courage in order to be leaders, as do the intellectuals. It stands to reason that the selfless abnegates would also value truthfulness as honesty is related to morality, and the supposedly 'factionless' would have to have a degree of bravery and intellect just to survive when they are cast out and allotted almost no resources. And why aren't there at least 10 factions? What about funny people, creative people, what about the principles of justice and fairness, utilitarian pragmatists, sensualists and aesthetes? Those people have a role in society too.
@@moonlily1 Hey, I never said the explanation made sense. That was just the explanation they pulled out of their butts in the third book. Also, the Abnegation folks definitely weren't truthful, given that they had the information about the purpose of their city and kept it to themselves. Still, that's the explanation. They're trying to fix humanity by making divergents or something. But they also didn't bother telling the city that divergents are a good thing for no good reason. It's not a good explanation by any means, but it's unfortunately the canon explanation.
Edit: Holy crap, I said explanation a lot.
@@waldrcla000 Well, that's the whole point of my comment: that the film and the books are weak in that the entire premise makes no sense, nothing else following it is going to either because the whole idea is logically indefensible.
@@moonlily1 The way the books covered this was much better, and the movie left it out entirely, but the whole thing goes like this:
In an effort to make humanity better, people began to genetically modify itself in a effort to force certain specific personality traits. There were 5 different "ideas" as to which trait was most beneficial in this way so each one went into production. This, of course, caused horrible problems and the world basically killed itself off. Now the few remaining non-genetically modified people who still run the world have created city-wide experiments to see if the genetic damage can be reversed. Chicago is one of those experiments. The goal of these experiments is to reverse the genetic modifications and produce "normal" people. In these cities, "normal" people are the ones that are labeled as "divergent," because they show propensities to more than one of the traits focused on in the original genetic experiments. So, essentially, Tris isn't special, she's just a normal person and it's everyone else that's fucked up.
Now, it has been a few years since I read this book series so I may have missed a key point or two, but that's the general idea. Also, no...it's not a particularly good theory to base things on, but hey...science *fiction* . Also, the books had a super obvious religious leaning, and in the end, Tris was a Jesus allegory who died to save humanity. It was kinda bullshit, really lol.
10:41
He knew in the book series by this point that Tris was Divergent. In fact if I'm not mistaken he knew it by the time she finished her first experience in the fear sim.
Yeah but someone watching the movie shouldn't have to read the books to understand that. The movie needs to stand on its own. The directing/dialogue should have communicated it more clearly to the audience.
I understood it just fine watching the movie and never read the books. You can tell he hints to her MANY TIMES that he can tell something is different about her and that's why he tries to help her. He slowly keeps pushing her to tell him, but of course she can't.

She even sounds like Katniss/Jennifer! That's just too much
SPOILER ALERT:
To survive Divergent you have to not be the main character
This one made me laugh
GeographyDawg Playz what about Will
What about Will, or Al, or Uriah, or Marlene, or Lynn, or Peter’s consciousness, you know, the other characters that weren’t Tris that still died.
Toxic1Strike exactly
also don't be involved with the main characters like don't even talk to them
i died of laughter watching this and honestly, the books re better
Yyeess like the last movie doesn't even make any sense
6:42 I guess it depends on whether they're giving the female students special training specifically designed to counter for biological limitations, or whether just throwing them into the ring. The issue is really between "equity" (recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge and make adjustments to imbalances) and "equality" ("providing the same to all"). Also, thanks the National Association of Colleges and Employees for helping me check the definitions.
In the books they show that they actually do train the girls to strike low and use their speed
At 4:47 You said “Two minutes is not enough time to do anything, let alone wake up.” Apparently you have never been in military basic training. When Reveille starts plying at 5:00 AM, two minutes is enough time to wake up, get out of bed, get dressed, and line up in formation outside with the rest of your group.
The book explains every. Single. Sin.
The books do. Not. Matter. Here.
@@thepickygamer4450 even if they did, they dont really explain much and are super cliché.
Yeah the movie has to stand on it's own, you shouldn't have to read the books to enjoy it. If they're going to make a movie, it will be judged like a movie.
The books don't matter, they have their own issues, and that still means it's a terrible adaptation.
God, did you all read something different to me? At what point do they say that you *should* have to read the books to get the movies? They’re not saying the books matter here, they’re simply stating that the books are *better* . Which obviously they are. They’re not defending the movie, they’re defending the books you blind arse bitches. Ily
Why did so many of these videos have to be reuploaded again in the first place?
just curious.
Copyright
G G Fair use must be determined by a judge first, technically speaking you don’t have the right to fair use until AFTER it’s been put up in court.
If it was copyright, then this channel would have way more than 3 copyright strikes and would be taken down by RUclips.
I was looking for the chronicle one and couldnt find it cuz if that, hopefully thats the next one they reupload
RUclips tends to delete old videos randomly.
I'm sorry but all the beginning sins are absolutely hilarious lol. All the Dauntless stuff and oh my God lol gold.
What I found disturbing about this movie is the fact that Tris looks like she could be 15 or 16 years old while Four looks to be in his mid twenties
What’s worse is that in the book they’re only a couple years apart
@@rollureyes69420 What's worse is that Tris is much taller than Christina in the movie lmao
I confused this series with Hunger Games and Maze Runner for some reason.
Because they're basically the same movie lol Teenager who's special+ dystopia + a bunch of nonsense that is never fully explained because then the rest of the book would be full of logic and plot holes, and the writer isn't talented enough to get around it = Young Adult Sci-Fi/Fantasy
@@doomstadt2371 I think that is the joke.
I keep thinking it’s the gender blended version of the same movie.
NO NO NO YOU HAVE GOT IT ALL WRONG
Wanna know the funniest thing...
Maze Runner actually had the better ending out of all these YA adaptations. Cheesy yes, but at least decent ( *cough cough Fucking Peta...* )
I love the outtakes
What’s your favourite colour?
You’ve stepped over the line
That's from The Hunger Games between Peeta and Katniss, since they keep comparing this movie to that one. 🙂
I love your humor! The best part was when u said: “i choose to imagine there is no spoon
"...i didn't read the books..."
That's a sin
**Ding**
Also that flies the the face of your "The books don't matter" motto which is worth this many sins
**+500 sins**
Remember when YA movies were a thing?
yes cause it just ended with them totally screwing up all the mazerunner sequels. Not gonna lie and say I didn't enjoy seeing how Hunger Games played out but the series as a whole is overrated and most others are going to be forgotten, for now. I watched a direct-to-dvd one that was better than the mazerunner or divergent sequels, not that that is saying much lol.
Holy shit you're right I ain't seen one in forever
This means you don't need the death cure (last maze runner installment in theatres lol).
@@NathanWhite22
Yes and you knew you were watching one because the male actors were always better looking than the females and the males chiseled good looks always far exceeded their acting abilities. Miles Teller is probably the only one who showed up in these movies that inverted that formula.
I dunno man the actors playing Tris and Katniss were pretty nice
Guys, it's scary that RUclips recommended me this, because I was watching divergent yesterday on my computer. Not even on my phone. I'm feeling stalked. 😂
lol same
Who's going to tell him?
They say they want to stand up for each other and stuff but when she stood up for her friend she got knifes thrown at her 🤨
Most of these issues are either oversights or explained more thoroughly in the books
Could you do everything wrong with bird box please
Myles Crisp i did one on my channel! ☝🏻 go check it out😂
@@bachi5826 please do not advertise.
@@bachi5826 i agree. However what does this have to do with anything?
My advertisement is better than yours Brad, I’m just saying.
The brilliant part of this movie is it’s awareness to predetermine the absolute GENIUS Commentary of this video narrator. He’s a true master of awareness, script-writing & delivery!
Easily the most talented.
Great job.
Ya made me lmao.

“This book may be fantastic, I’ll never know” is one of the best things I’ve ever heard.
Everything wrong with Divergent: The movie exists.
that's what I was thinking, too
I hated their bullshit romance
Might be the first movie to put to sleep.
Yes
Anyone thought that the romance was cliche?
He could’ve taken off a sin after 13:50 because peter (the dude) says what are you gonna do? Shoot me? And tris pulls a cinemasins and says “why does everyone say that?”
1:10 In the books it explains this concept better. First off, there’s only supposed to be one testing room per faction. Second, most of the testers are abnegation, but since you aren’t supposed to be tested by someone in your faction, abnegation is usually tested by dauntless or candor.
I watched this after The Quiet Place and flinched every time that a sound was made...
Everything Wrong With Bird Box
Spider-Cop - And yet, they did Bright
and Cloverfield Paradox
I did one on my channel! Go check it out
Smooth Brad that was awful
Smooth Brad sry bro but that that was absolute shit. Good try I guess but not really, You really need to step up your game up before you start posting shit and one piece of advice just be yourself, stop acting like your from the hood, right dawg(chest pound) 😂. Look at you, your that smart skinny dude who sits in the front of the class getting straight A’s, we all know you speak proper English, try to use it.
You spelled it wrong, it is "Everything is Wrong With Divergent"
Resurgence Of The Shadow Dragons no, the books are BRILLIANT.
@@leahmarie7290 The books are okay
Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series arguably better, entirely different genre though
Spans 14 books, about 1000 pages each
As for comparable series, I'd argue that Maze Runner was a bit more innovative than Divergent, although Divergent was a lot better than Hunger Games
You're talking to someone that read more books in three years just from the School Library, than had all the remaining 19 of the top 20 had in the last 25 years of recorded history at that library :)
Resurgence Of The Shadow Dragons I’ve never read the “wheel of time series” so wouldn’t know if it’s better or not.
The Divergent books in my opinion are better than maze runner. And it’s so fckn annoying that the divergent movies were terrible.
@@leahmarie7290 Could be worse, they could have been treated like Eragon...
Elves didn't even have pointy ears, not exactly sure how they cheap out on that, even Star Trek managed it...lol
Ur not wrong tho
Well, there you go. I've always thought that Four was actually called Ford.
"I choose to believe that there is no spoon"
High iq 😂
I haven't seen the movies but just by watching this I know the books are better
They are but the first movie at least is pretty good I still prefer the books tho
Wasn’t Al originally black? Did they make him white just cause they didn’t want to be called out for racism since he tried to kill Tris?
The books are always better.
@@sparksfly5877 no im pretty sure he was white. But I'm probably not a reliable source since I only realized Peter wasn't blond like halfway into the third book (which I still haven't finished so yay the comment section spoiled it for me), I wouldn't really trust myself 😂
Edited: Just realized this was a year ago but hey someone at least answered you
Diverging runner games was surely a time to be alive
Movies if it was a combo
I sometimes use cinemasins to determine if a movie is the lest bit worth watching lmao
One of the things that annoyed me the most in this movie was the fact that when you’re on the train on your way to the divergent camp, you can change your name. You can do this then and only then, however you find out that the reason that Four is named ‘Four’ is because there were four of his father in the fear simulation that you go through WAY after you join dauntless so he couldn’t possibly be named Four!
Read Four, divergent in Tobias’ perspective. It makes sense.
Heather Nelson his name was four because he had four fears it might have been a typo I don’t know
His name is four because that's how many fears he has
I totally get that he has for fears in the simulation, what I don’t understand is how he picked the name ‘Four’ before he ever went through the stimulation, because all four fears are his father and he wouldn’t have seen it in that way until he went through the simulation, and you can’t change your name after that first day. But I’ll have to look at that other book.
@@Heather_Nelson I think people just started calling him four after the test even though that’s not what he said
Reading the books will help clear up some of this.
Yes, with half of these I was like "ummm this is explained so well in the b---- wait.... he didn't read the books.... ok the movie must be garbage"
The books don't matter here.
The books don’t even matter in the case of this series. The books were garbage too.
This book were actually pretty decent. The movie is cringy tho
True that
I disagree. While reading the novel, all I could think about was how much the writer disapproved of people who are more intelligent than she is.
The entire idea of the book is ridiculous, a kid could have written this series. Idk how these became so famous.
I have all the books and only ever read the first one. Hate the main character in the first book and decided to not complete all the books
@@LedgerJoker77 A kid kind of did if you consider her one, considering she was a college student when she wrote them. This series makes me irritated because it's someone getting rich off of ripping off several popular YA novels at the time (mainly Hunger Games and Harry Potter). It's also aggravating because the more time you spend considering the story, characters, and such, the more you begin to realize how little sense most of it makes. Then again, I get annoyed someone got rich from making poorly written crap like Twilight and stupid crap like Fifty Shades of Grey... Now that I'm older, I choose to try and ignore these mostly terrible existing franchises instead.
the commentary on this video is the best one I've ever heard from Cinemasins
If anyone reads the book after the end of the main series following Tris, titled "Four", you will learn about how Four's intitation went and see that the system was changed to be more brutal for intitates thanks to Eric becoming leader.
I already know this is a reupload but can we get a "Everything Wrong with Allegiant"?
