    There is a hill near my house with a 28% gradient, but only 50 feet of gain. I thought about doing a half Everest on that, but quickly decided that I don’t have the will power nor the strength. Props to Phil for taking this difficult task on yet again!

    Perhaps you should write this one off (because, let's face it, you're not going to get this record) and instead chase around looking for the perfect hill....and never quite finding it. Like Goldilocks and the porridge/beds etc. Anyway, it could be a funny sub plot. The final episode will see you flying to Ireland, with a huge build up, and then as you are heading to the hill, realising you've forgotten your bike! The episode could also involve Guinness, and a meme that Guinness and coffee and cookie loving cyclists from California don't mix very well (we've seen your car, now let's see you drunk!!!). But everesting record....you know it isn't happening!!! That one is too fast. Way too fast. Nevertheless, it's always fun watching whatever you get up to. :-)

      @winstoncat6785 4 года назад

      @@justinjewell1043 Actually, I genuinely think Phil hasn't got a cat in hell's chance of getting this record. It is far too fast. Many of his more significant KOM's are ageing badly, showing that he is far from the fastest person uphill any more, even against other amateurs, and more embarrassingly, sometimes against.....triathletes!!! But seriously, the current everesting record is brutally fast. People are underestimating how good it is, perhaps because the holder is a relative unknown. Of course, Phil can make fun videos about trying (and failing) to get the record. Which is the point of his channel.

    • @justinjewell1043
      @justinjewell1043 4 года назад

      @@winstoncat6785 Ugh indulge the troll. No one is underestimating how good the record time is. It was promptly stolen from Contador, who'd promptly stole it from Lachlan. Old pro vs young. Phil is somewhere in between, I suppose, and plenty capable of putting in the effort if you've watched any of his videos or scoured his countless KOMs. He's never stopped his personal training and staying fit, and he doesn't have the baggage of world touring or basically any sort of sanctioned racing holding him back. And that's a plus because he can be leisurely about how he decides to steal this KOM, as he generally is. Anyway, you're being dismissive and argumentative and I get it because everything in our current society is polarized and must be boiled down to "my side's right, your's is wrong."he'llfail so you can say "see I told you so!" you'rechadenfreuderecord...or not. I hope he does because he seems like a nice guy and I enjoy watching him succeede. With a Everesting record like this, unachievable is relative, and neither you nor I could ever hope to compete with what Phil is going for. So maybe take a step back and stop being a judgmental little bitch and just try and enjoy life and the people who provide you with free content for fuck's sake...

It's arrogant and explaining or even joking with a stranger about why they'll fail can never not be construed as at least somewhat mean-spirited. Phil's not going to get it because Winston says so, is I assume the way your mind works. Must be true! That is what makes you a troll. I didn't watch this video and ever have a moment where I felt like I should voice my opinion on how impossible the challenge is or why he shouldn't bother and do something else like pretend to forget his bike.

    You can't trust Strava's gradients. I compute them myself when assembling cycling stats (elevation/distance). The bad values from Strava have wasted a lot of my time.

      Yea! I said "uh-oh" out loud watching this just before that caption popped on the screen. Lucky for Phil there didn't happen to be a car (or other cyclist) coming up the hill on that blind turn. That would have left a mark.

    I lived right near Los Gatos and it is not the correct climb.. too much braking on the decent. Why don't you post the ideal grade & length and let the crowd help in your search? if you are looking for a 3 minute climb, this is a good one. Couser Canyon Road Climb

    Hey Phil, why don't you just take the information about your ideal climb to Strava, Garmin, USGS, or Cal DOT and ask them to do a Geographic Information System (GIS) search for it? Might save you from driving all over.

      That's a good way to start, but I'd imagine some parameters will be tough to tease out (straightness/safety of descent for one)
