When Jackson broke down, I lost it! My parents and grandparents are from Montgomery and Birmingham, and they participated in the Civil Rights Movement and experienced hell!
Yes our people have been thru so but we are still here to keep making the changes. God gave them what it took to get thru it and we can do even more 🙏🏽.
Jackson is something special. I remember he cried like that when his parents first told him and his cousin what slavery was. Jackson sobbed and sobbed at the shock and horror of it all. He’s beautiful.
Jackson is soo compassionate. Just love that lil guy. You can tell that he's taking it all in, and as long as our kids do that, it will keep history from repeating itself.
Cairo offering comfort to his brother is heartwarming. Amazing to watch you help these young men identify and express their emotions. That makes all the difference ❤
Jackson is such an empath 🥺❤ he can feel all things. What a gentle soul! I can only imagine how that must’ve been to see those things in person & to hear the back stories.
I am a young black woman and proud to be so. Watching this episode and seeing Jackson's heart made me appreciate even more my heritage and the things my grandparents and parents went through. Thanks for sharing with the boys at a young age just how powerful they already are.
I just wanna say this was amazing. Always love seeing y’all create memories with the boys but most of all teaching them along the way. They will grow to be amazing men. Now Jackson of course got me to cry. I like that he’s in tune with his feelings and emotions. Now Devale you know Jackson expects to be great at it all, he’s an Ellis.
Jackson is brilliant in intelligence and in emotion. His parents said he scores in the top top percentile at school in intelligence and he’s also sharply aware of his own emotions, of the emotion of the room, and he understands and feels words and hypothetical circumstances deeply. It will be a blessing to see where this takes him. Jackson is a gift.
I honestly love how they parent their kids and the way they communicate to them and tell them through their feelings it’s so beautiful to see.I needed this growing up.
Omg! Im from Birmingham Al and I walked thru that museum for school when I was attending UAB. When Jackson cried I literally lost it. He is so wise and understanding and I absolutely LOVE the way you parent those boys and they will never forget these memories and it will make them even wiser and stronger!!!❤️❤️❤️
I knew of a Peaches that was a HAIR stylist for a long time . I ALSO HAVE RELATIVES THAT STILL RESIDE THERE AND THE UAB HOSPITAL.nd school are TOP TIER. Way To Go BHM
This was beautiful. When your baby can feel and have a real sense of empathy for the ancestors. Great experience and exposure. All the boys seemed to learn from this experience. Great job parents!!!
Thank you! I'm from Birmingham and you guys documented these historical locations perfectly. I was brought to tears when your son cried at the thought of his grandparents going through segregation. Your family is so adorable. Thank you for sharing🥰🥰
Bless you for sharing this with your children and us by extension. This was deep! Jackson gave life to how overwhelmed all of us were feeling. It was good to see a young man as your guide at that time also. Even though you can afford to give those boys everything, these living lessons are priceless. Great job Devale and Kaye. Now I'm looking forward to a summer vacation series 😂.
I think seeing Jackson cry hit me so differently I live in North Carolina where there's a slave market that still stands in downtown Fayetteville North Carolina where my great-great-grandfather was sold not once but twice and to think that we still have to educate our kids because the public school systems are trash and their failing our children when it comes to discussing our history just shows how far this country still has to go! But on a lighter note I've been watching this family since Jackson was a baby and I must say that mom and dad you guys are doing a phenomenal job!
Thank You for sharing your family with me. I just cried when Jackson broke down because of our History. He gets it. We lived it. I was apart of it. So special to see in this Black History month 2023.
Ellises, thank you guys for visiting our Alabama and our city. Thanks for during the month of February highlighting the past and present struggles not only of Birmingham; Alabama, the south, but our country and how it still impacts and invokes pain today, as evident in Jackson as he begin to understand and navigate the world as a young Black Man in America. You guys are a great representation of what families can be; we love watching the entire 6pk - please, more content.
As an Alabaman who resided in Birmingham for years, I love this. Thank you for teaching the boys this, allowing them space for emotions and showing them how far we have come. Y'all are already my favorites. This only adds to it.
I think it's safe to say Jackson have everyone who watch this Birmingham vacation in tears because we see he gets it at a early age most kids would look over this but it's obvious his parents are doing a great job in teaching them about there race ..great job he's gonna be a great husband and dad to his future wife
Thanks for sharing your family vacation in my place of birth. Birmingham has such a rich history and its people changed the world. To think that Angela Davis and Condoleezza Rice could both be from Birmingham with such different views tells you about the complexities of our people. You're raising future leaders.
This was AMAZING! This is what it had come down to, us teaching our children our history because they are trying to erase us as if it never happened. Jackson feeling what his ancestors felt was beautiful. It shows that at his early age, he had empathy and compassion. Something most young people do not have today. Great vacation.
Thank you for showing love to my hometown! Sooooo many memories! Especially when you hit Rickwood Field, whew. Jackson bout took me out. So much love for this.
My city of Birmiingham getting recognition. Thanks for shouting out our history and role in the movement. You are raising a fine young man. Come back again!
Jackson made me tear up. My 10 year old son is a lot like him. Great to see young boys being encouraged to be honest about their emotions, especially from their fathers.
i did the same thing jackson did my first time walking through the civil rights muesuem i ran out screaming you can feel the chills as soon as you walk in
Thank you for sharing such heartfelt family memories. Your children were so engaged, they were having fun and learning all at the same time. I love that💖.
Khadeen and Devale- thank you for sharing this with us all. So proud of how far you guys have come and this is a wonderful example of how we honor all those who paved the way for us. I pray God keeps blessing you and your family. Jackson's pure reaction melted my heart. We do it all for these precious babies...so they understand how much it took to get to where we are today. There is still work to be done but we have come so far. I also pray that your boys and all future generations never lose sight of that. What a wonderful opportunity to visit such a historic city. We love y'all! ❤️
Thank u very much Devale & Khadeen for teaching/sharing with your sons the history if our forefathers. Too often we as people of negro descendants choose to ignore or downplay the pain & struggles our ancestors endured to enable us to b at the point/stage we r in life. As Black people i feel we r dishonouring our heritage
I LOVE THIS! You guys are doing an amazing job. This is so beautiful. I still have the same feelings as Jackson whenever I see or think about what our ancestors had to go through. We've come so far but still have so far to go. ❤🙏🏿
History is our story of resilience. We must not allow it to repeat itself. Take advantage of every good opportunity to make yourself better. It will propel you forward and you can then appreciate our ancestors' sacrifices. I love Jackson's sensitivity. Great series!
Jacksons reaction broke my heart. It’s definitely hard to show those hard truths to our children but it’s necessary they know the struggles and accomplishments of African Americans.
Awesome video of a beautiful family enjoying a city with deep history. Thank you for exposing your family to history that must be taught. I took my 3 sons to the museum and many of those same sites when they were about that age. Now they are in their 30s. I hope others will follow suit.
Thank you for visiting our city and discovering and teaching our young people the importance of history and struggles for human dignity! Please come back again!❤🙏
I'm 62 years old and can remember driving from NC to NY in the summer and having to pack all the food we would eat because there may not be a place that would serve us if we stopped. This was back in the mid to late 60s so I felt Jackson's pain and am in awe of his empathy at such a young age.
I was born in 1963 in Birmingham and seeing this video bought back memories of my childhood. My city has come a long way since then and advanced the world. I no longer live there but I just visited Bham this past weekend for a family funeral. Thank you Ellises for the wonderful video.
Thank you for visiting my home.. Birmingham,AL. There are so many beautiful aspects of this city. However, it is important, especially now as some people want to skip over a large portion of black history as it relates to what occurred in America, to teach our children history as we teach them to excel in the present and the future. I love your family values and pray continuous blessings as you display the importance of family! This episode was enjoyable to watch🖤🤎❤🤎🖤
I'm glad you guys came to visit my beautiful city. I came back home to Birmingham after my military retirement. One thing they didn't tell you guys is that Rickwood Field was where the black high schools played their city championship back during that time as well. It was a big event every year due to the segregation of the city. We've come a long way. Thank y'all for showing what our city has to offer. "MAGIC CITY"
I’m from Mobile, Alabama. I’ve been a resident of The Magic City for 21 years now. I’m so glad you all visited. I got emotional watching Jackson❤️ I love how y’all educate them on history.
I’m from Birmingham born & raised & still living in it seeing the Ellises learning & exploring the history of my city as well as what it has to offer the tourists that comes to visit makes me even prouder y’all come back & visit again ya heard me!✊🏾💪🏾💯

So so proud to you guys as a young couple to set this good example of what it means to have kids and actually teach them history!, god bless you guys🙏🏽🖤🥰🙂
Love this video as a Birmingham native. Y'all absolutely nailed it. I love the description of a museum as walking through a textbook. My thoughts exactly, and it really is amazing how much kids learn that way.

Jackson made me cry, I noticed it’s not the first time he cried regarding this subject. He may have a calling on his life.

We need more kids like Jackson to see and feel the pain of ancestors. Our future is bright
I’m at work crying with Jackson, thanks 😂.

Beautiful, my heart felt Jackson when he broke down. I love how his dad told him it was okay to cry.❤️
Omg... Jackson made me tear up! wow... I'm so glad they're growing in an environment to be vulnerable and show their emotions.
