If anybody wants to understand/perceive a raga, this is the person. No sparkling technical show-off. No innovative phrase appearing suddenly to surprise. But as he played, the raga used to appear around him, adding a divine touch. Only Pt Nikhil Banerjee could attain this, none before, none after.

When Nikhil Da plays raag sohini.. it outs the actual soul' of sitar strings. Immortal,,.....

You can listen to this everyday for the rest of your lives, but still find some new things to marvel about every time you listen again. This type of music has no parallel, just nothing else comes close.

I have listened raga Sohini played by many artists but played by Pt.Nikhil Bannerjee is something which does not have any match.I have the cassette of raga Sohini and Megh. Particularly raga Sohini makes me highly immotional and tears come out of my eyes when it is played by Pt.Nikhil Bannerjee.

Hi Ken yes it has several variants. Very old Raga. I think one of the 6 mentioned in ancient musical texts.

This rendition is at per with 'prem ki maar katar'by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan saab. But it won't be an exaggeration if I say that Sohini has never been rendered with this exquisite craftsmanship and sentiment.
