Absolutely stunning amplifier. This not meant as a criticism but I cannot imagine dropping almost $15k and not a few hundred $ on sound diffusion for the time smearing coming off those glass windows. Thank you for sharing your journey through this insanity. 😊
I appreciate that you use sound samples in your reviews. Obviously not an accurate representation of the amp and speakers, but as good a frame of reference as is available on You Tube, and it is so much better than just talking about how something sounds. That’s almost useless.
Hi, if your considering these higher end amps you really need to hear them for yourself. (You probably know that) anyways I just bought E-4000, I was lucky to compare and listen at a local shop. They let me take it home for a weekend so you get to touch it etc. somehow in Canada Accuphase is cheaper than in the states so comparing it to the equivalent Mcintosh and Luxman it was a no brainer.
Hello from Montreal, I’ve had my E-4000 for two weeks now. Out of the box it sounds beautiful. I was going to go for the class A E-800 but it’s an extra 5000$ cnd. I compared them both and found it wasn’t worth the extra money. This amp has a smaller footprint and weight so it fits nicely in a rack. Plus it has plenty of power to drive my 87 db Verity Parsifals speakers. I also purchased the phono preamp card add on for my turntable. It works very well. Accuphase is not cheap but in Canada it’s cheaper than in the US, so a lot cheaper than the equivalent Mcintosh. It’s classy, old school with quality parts. I’m actually looking for an Accuphase tuner yes tuner for radio. Montreal has some great radio stations and the sound quality is more direct without the glare when you stream. I love listening to hockey games on radio. (Ice hockey) I appreciate your videos and how you went through all the amps to selecting the Accuphase.

What a beautiful amplifier. Love the layout, the gold finish, those meters... I also like how it has functions to act as a preamp or power amp only. Like it would be common to find components better than the ones internal to the E4000. 😆Maybe for the billionaires out there for whom Accuphase ownership is a stepping stone rather than a lifelong aspiration. Apparently their engineers have a sense of humor.
I love my E4000. Very clean sounding. The 240 volt models have an ECO mode that is on by default. Need to turn it off otherwise the amp switches itself off after 2 hours even if it’s playing music. I like the larger meters on the E4000 than was on my previous E280. My only niggle is the remote would be far better if it could be used to power on the amp, activate loudness, turn meters off & on. Luxman remote has these functions but the beautiful looking Accuphase remote is lacking in these functions.
Hi, you mentioned you previously had a E280? Can I get you impressions on how the E4000 differs and is it enough of an improvement for an upgrade from the E280? I have the E280 and it drives Dynaudio Heritage Special speakers.
@ Worth the upgrade depends a bit on the value you place on the extra money you would need to spend. I originally ordered the E4000 thinking it was the sweet spot of the range being not the “entry level” E280 yet not the BIG E5000 which is 20k here. As the E4000 was not in stock for several months he gave me the E280 to use for a few months. There was a 1 month gap between returning the E280 and getting the E4000 so I couldn’t make a perfect AB comparison. Cosmetically I loved the look of the E280 being a bit old school with the knobs across the front but the meters were a bit small and pretty useless from my listening position with my old eyes. The E4000 having slightly bigger meters makes them more visually nice to have. E4000 has no more features than the E280 except an extra XLR input. Sonically I would say the E4000 mids are cleaner / clearer sounding. Not brighter but a bit cleaner / clearer. Maybe 10%. A nice improvement if a slightly cleaner mid is desired. Other than that to my older ears no difference, power difference was not noticeable, bass control difference was not noticeable, imaging maybe 5% better with the E4000. Interestingly I was getting some earth hum noise in my speakers originating from my Eversolo A8 source, not bad but it was there. Also had it with a Luxman I had for a month, yet with the E4000 it was not there. Leads me to believe the E4000 handles the incoming signal unwanted noise better with its more up to date noise filtering. The E4000 is about 5 years more modern than the E280 internals so it employs a bit better noise filtering and some other goodies, it also has a toroidal transformer unlike the conventional type in the E280 and the Luxmans. I was very happy with the E280 and recognised very quickly it was no “entry level” amp. Maybe entry level in the Accuphase range but not an entry level amp as the term is normally used. It’s weight alone tells you that. There were many times while listening to the E280 I thought WOW that sounds amazing, interestingly I can’t say I’ve had that impression with the E4000 yet it is a bit better. If the extra money is not a stretch then the E4000 is the slightly better amp with slightly cleaner mids, very slightly better imaging, and bigger meters but if the extra money is a stretch then you can be very content with the awesome E280, it’s a great amp.
@@aussie8114 Thank you for such a detailed and informative reply!! It really helps me confirm my decision to stay with the E-280. Hi Tharbamar, I currently have an SMSL A300 amplifier, an SMSL SU 8S DAC, and Polk Audio TSI 100 speakers. Which speakers would you recommend for less than 300 dollars? Greetings from Argentina.
Hi. I am considering this exact Accuphase model and went to my local dealer and he told me if you could stretch another 1.5k euros E650 would be a better choice 🤔 I’m not sure, I have to do more digging in to it. Have you consider class A as well? My speakers at the moment are Bowers & wilkins 702 s2 signature
I listened to all Accuphase current amps, pure Class A is very nice but it lacks the punch and immediacy for my diverse music taste, very nice amp, thanks
I have the E650 and upgraded from thr E480. My speakers are Dynaudio contour 30 standmounts. The E650 definitely has plenty of punch, it's very lively and controlled. I would say the E480 it replaced was a bit warmer and Fuller, a fantastic amplifier. I listened to the E4000 which is slightly cleaner in overall presentation than the E480. The E650 class A has an incredible amount of detail and dynamic swing and timing is I Off the chart. The bottom end is detailed and very precisely controlled. The mids are more open, detailed, upfront and lit up by comparison the the AB Accuphase integrated. Top end is equally detailed but never over etched or fatiguing over long listening sessions. Both E4000 and E650 are superb amplifiers. If you want detail, control and precision the 650 gives you that in spades. If you value a slightly more relaxed layed back warmer presentation then the E4000 is probably the way to go. This is from my own personal perspective and through my speakers. Bottom line, you can go wrong with either, it's all down to personal preference.
Hello from Montreal, when I auditioned my E-4000 I was actually considering the E-650 class A amp. I switched to the E-4000. It's very subtle difference but it has a smaller footprint and a lot cheaper. I took my time, the store actually let me take one home for a week. In general with any of these more expensive components you have to listen to them. All the best
@@Tharbamarwhat a bullshit. E-650 is better than E-4000 if you need body and punch. For me, E-650 has more punch overall. I could compared two of them with 803d4
Hi, yes but it’s all relative. If your starting out you don’t buy a 15000$ cnd amp. I just bought this amp and it’s my last amp. I’m 58 and I work, I’ve always had some kind of stereo hifi system since I was 18. I love music, I started with a cheap Realistic receiver and speakers.(remember Radio Shack) we had radio and vinyl. Over time and as your ears develop your sound you’ll want to upgrade for better sounding equipment that will give you that sound. And that’s what I did. There’s also used components, so maybe in five years that expensive Accuphase amp will be available for a lot less. There is always a way of achieving something it just may take some work and time. Take care
@@davidgill2520 I am with you and it is great that you enjoy hi- fi and understand it well. I always enjoy your informative videos. Keep up the good work.
Nah, at this price point an integrated is questionable for me, I would lean more towards a separate preamplifier+amplifier setup like a MC462 2-Channel Solid State Amplifier by McIntosh, quad balanced @450 watts per channel, 115 pound amplifier approx cost $10K dollars. My impressions of the higher end Japanese audio brands are that of impeccable build quality however the sound can be too polite for my preferences acting like a filter of sorts the analogy being the music is forced to take off the shoes at the entrance of the house, no shoes in the house kind of sound signatures
Please try back to back and look closely inside out to see which one have better built and craftsmanship, JDM price doesn’t apply to US market, all audio products are overpriced in general but knowing which ones are worth buying and listening is important for me to make the decision, I could easily buy any Mc I want but I never think they have the sound quality that I want, another thing that you should know is I only try to use the products of independent brands. I try to stay away from the brands under big umbrella as much as I can. BTW: Modern MCs are not entirely Made in USA.
@andrefortune8278 none. Nonetheless, I like the Denon more than the accuphase in design and aesthetics. Accuphase lost sex appeal with the absence of the wooden side panels. For one hand, I like the solid state relays and the volume control that presumes a long life service of the Accuphase, but the more traditional circuit design and deeper class A operation of the Denon...I would keep the Denon.
Ha ha I am laughing so hard. You spend 10k for amp then play poor quality vinyl with so many pops and clicks. It defeats the whole purpose of having an expensive amp. By the way, amps amplify, and there is not much difference between any decent amp, since amps aren't supposed to color the sound. You are convincing yourself of minute differences. If you did a true blind listening test between this amp and much lower priced amp, listening at same volume level, I bet you won't be able to tell the difference. Very funny video!

@@Tharbamar Ok! Do you know if there is one on the way or are you hoping for one? Dac-50 is an AKM though. Then you probably need to buy a used one.
I have the DAC60 and am happy with it.
How would Accuphase e-4000 compare to similar price Technics su-r1000
Is it better than Rotel michi S5? I decide to buy Rotel 😢
Sound is always subjective but Accuphase is Made in their lab in Japan not contracted to third party manufacturer.
So there is the big different.
@@Tharbamar 👍🙏
nice review...never thought you would part with your classic high power Denon...I think your Denon sounded better on your videos...this one is too detailed and not warm...I get ear fatigue from just the video😱why not go for a tube or hybrid❓
Thanks, E-4000 is revealing actual sound signature of the speaker

The more i see your new Acuphase 4000 amplifier the more I realize how good it really is👍🏼 sounds good and well built... it is... must be very good for you...do you miss your Denon ?
How does the Topping B200 compare to the Accuphase E-4000?
Thank you, but is it much better than a good pre amp, like Topping Pre90, plus something like a Sabaj power amplifier?
No comparison.
@petermartin9494, Yes absolutely it's in different league but significantly different in price may not be justifiable for most because laws of diminishing returns. Thank you.
Yes nice amp , but does it really dump over your Denon?
In a way yes but not entirely.
I used to owned a e408, during that time i found it to be a bit soft sounding, lacking in bite for music.... do you find the e4000 to have this character? thanks
Very nice that's the one that they gave to you right?
Yep O I asked E-5000 but they gave me E-4000, what can I say 😊
that explains why you praise it so well over your reference Denon PMA SX11...i'm betting you will go back to your Denon later😂...
Beauty amplifier!...please, the album (vinyl LP) name ?
This track you will find on album called Brooklyn Blues.
Accuphase e4000 vs luxman 507 which is better to go?
Accuphase E-4000 for me.
Nice amp Tharbamar (is that your name?) curious as to why you didn't consider luxman 509x or 509z? Lovely sound 👏
i have owned the e408,,, overall the sound was enjoyable but i find it too soft sounding, or too smooth sounding.(i dont know how to decribe it)..... i was pairing it with a focus audio 788 at that time..... i wonder how the e4000 had change.... whether it has sounds similar.
They have gone a bit more open/quicker/more upfront sounding for every generation, unfortunate for us liking that slightly more relaxed presentation (like the 408, great amp).
Nice amp :)
Where is your DENON integrated amp?
Went to new owner.
You got to try Yamaha integrated yet?
I have they're very good but I prefer Accuphase.
@@Tharbamar I think I remember from a review. Is this what you think as well
yamaha - focus and energetic
Luxman - soundstage, openness, detail
Accuphase - warm relaxing
@@kcr2365 Sound signature is depending on paring components so we have to try them in our own systems to determine if that work for us.
However, no other Amp manufacturers can do better than Yamaha in accurate transparent sound because they are the only one can produce pretty much all musical instruments.
I totally love your videos. Good stuff! I did a video on the HAP Z1 inspired by yours! I am looking for a way to move all data to a SSD, without loosing any data. Do you know of a way to do a block transfer to another drive that works?
I would take out original drive and put the new drive in the Z1ES and format it then reconnect original drive with USB input and transfer everything to new drive. Thanks
@@Tharbamar Problem with that, is that all the metadata is lost. The senseme analysis, playlists and so on. There is no backup function that can preserve those data.
@@Tharbamar And is it even possible to actually copy? As far as I can see, the external drive is just a addition to the internal drive. No copy or backup functions. Do you know if it is possible to do a block copy on a linux machine for example?
@@stjernholmreviews Oh you will have to use HDD copy software like carbon copy with your computer to do that but Sense Me or Playlists are not stored in storage drive, it's in the memory. You have to avoid factory reset if you want to keep them in place.
I haven't done this method but I would try this, turn off Z1ES - unplugged AC power -remove original drive - carbon copy (software) to new drive using your computer and 2.5" USB drive enclosures.
it might work without harm, so we can avoid factory reset on Z1ES, it just an idea I'm not sure it would accept new drive that way but worth the shot to me if I'm trying to preserve the setting, thanks
@@Tharbamar do you know what filesystem is used? I dont think you can write to it on MacOS?
Bro, I have e-650 since 2019, never regretted. Youre too late with Accuphase 😅
And i compared between cheap musical fidelity lx2 lps phonostage - ad50 and goldnote ph10, believe me, ph10 sounds significantly better than ad50, ad50 sounds without emotion.
Have you tried the Marantz PM-10?
Yes Marantz is a great Amp but not for me, thanks
What are these pads? e 4000
in Japan, you can buy E-4000 for less than $5,000. Why US price is so expensive??
Tariffs and Market price adjustments, if cheaply made others(from 3rd party companies)are selling for top dollar why not Accuphase with superior build quality.
@@Tharbamar Do people in the US to consider buy in Japan and ship it to the US and use voltage converter from 100V to US voltage(115V?)?? I think even considering tariffs and market condition, E-4000 for over 10K is still overpriced.

Please review an Electrocompaniet amplifier particularly ECI intregated. You will probably find them similar to Accuphase in sound signature.
Really? Both are brilliant amps, but I find Electrocompaniet and Accuphase to have very different sounds as far as high-end solid-state amplification goes.
Hi Tharbamar, I currently have an SMSL A300 amplifier, an SMSL SU 8S DAC, and Polk Audio TSI 100 speakers. Which speakers would you recommend for less than 300 dollars? Greetings from Argentina.
Hi, I would suggest you to try ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 speakers, thanks
@@Tharbamar Thanks tharbamar, very good videos help a lot
Thanks for honest answer
I have the E650 and upgraded from thr E480. My speakers are Dynaudio contour 30 standmounts. The E650 definitely has plenty of punch, it's very lively and controlled. I would say the E480 it replaced was a bit warmer and Fuller, a fantastic amplifier. I listened to the E4000 which is slightly cleaner in overall presentation than the E480. The E650 class A has an incredible amount of detail and dynamic swing and timing is I
Off the chart.
How does it compare to the SMSL DA9? Lol! 😂😂😂😂😂
I will let you know in a few weeks😀
Accuphase would be so mad with your question 😆... just like a Rolex vs cheap fake gold watch displaying in NYC Chinatown.
No brainer.
Hi, I'm very interested, how did you get the product?
Nice to be Rich.
A brand new E4000 goes for $693,000 JPY = $5000 USD. Great amp but it’s not in the same league as the McIntosh MA12000.
@@Tharbamar I guess you don't feel separates are worth it over a good integrated?
Just my opinion
The wood pallet look on your wall just ain't making it....😮
你用accuphase去驅動jbl這簡直是 災難一場... 這是不對的
Nothing is wrong with that it’s all in your head, go see Accuphase test room.
I'm slightly disappointed with your decision to change your denon for this accuphase.
Why would you be that? Aint that a bit weird? 😂❤
@@stjernholmreviews I'm an audiophile with principles 😄
Whats your experience with the Denon?
@@salvadorrodenas3071 for others as well? That must be hard on you😁❤️
@andrefortune8278 none.
What’s the bet?
@@Tharbamar If you lose you stop making videos. If I lose I say I was wrong and that amps do color the sound.
