There is no such thing as pad clearance adjustment, only free stroke adjustment on both Shimano and SRAM. Also what was the multishift speed setting on Dura Ace?
If im not racing and not making a living from cycling then i sure dont need the latest and greatest. Im still riding with sram red etap 11sp from 2019 i never had issues. Most average cyclist like myself dont need to spend 4k + on the latest groupset. Just my opinion ✌️
It's funny how reviewers only tell you their true feelings regards a groupset once it becomes the previous groupset, all reviewers over the last 24hrs have only now told us how they really feel about Sram red axs of 2019-present.
All media has to keep the companies sweet or they won’t get review units or early access. Very simple. Only independent reviews can come from folks buying their own stuff to review…
I’ve been riding the red etap 1. Gen. For 6 years. I would love to upgrade to this one, if only this groupset wouldn’t cost as much as my 2018 Canyon with Red and Zipp wheels cost back then when bikes were still “affordable”.
I’m running 9270. No surprise, it’s brilliant. Ran 9170 briefly, and a thousands of km’s on 8070. Breaking is noticeably superior on the 12 speed stuff. Shifting is also much ‘improved’ - in that it’s smoother and quieter, and as someone who gets a lot out of a groupset, I do feel it shifts better under load. I’m not entirely sure if I prefer the ‘lighter’ feel of the newer Dura-Ace, as it looses a sense of physical feedback when shifting. Ultimately, I would choose any 11/12spd Di2 groupset over SRAM, as I don’t see any area where it outperforms the Shimano counterpart (yes, the claimed weight is lower, but only by a handful of grams). Campy would be my second choice, but I really dislike the WRL grouppo, aesthetically and ergonomically. Big fan of EPS, but not point in buying already outdated bike components, especially with them being electric and needing spare parts and batteries over many years. Choose whatever will make you enjoy your ride more!
I will watch and see if in 2025 SHimano can make a power meter that measures your actual power, and a crankset that won't be recalled would be a nice bonus. For now, I'm saving my spare change and pinching pennies until I can afford my new Red dream bike build, cost be damned.
Was waiting for this before deciding on my new bike… was already leaning towards SRAM for dual batteries and gear ratios (and aesthetics). New levers just confirmed my choice.
there is no double click and long-press on auxiliary buttons like on Di2. the rear derailleur is more decentralized with respect to the cassette. Shimano is more nicely hidden under the cassette. other than that, the groups looks nice and feals great, has made up for a lot of lagging-behind. definitely considering it for the next bike.
Feature is one thing. Reliability (real world) is another. In where I live, Shimano has abundant support, as reliable as Toyota. They break down only if the rider has been neglecting the bike in extreme case (apart from the crankset tragedy). Subconsciously we know what’s good, but most of the time our egos want to satisfy the cool factor
I got one bike with the dura ace - and a sram one as well... I will buy the new sram shifters next, because I have small hands... apart from that thanks for your fine video
I think also we have to look at the camp you like best regardless of improvements. What I mean is, in the states picking your groupo set is like those in the Chevy or Ford camp of vehicles........doesn't matter the bad things in each, some are just loyal to a particular manufacturer. I went SRAM just over 15 years ago and through the mechanical aspect now to the AXS or wireless as we say. SRAM is more intuitive to me, and their sets are what I like best for me personally. I had nothing really wrong with Shimano and coming from them and mainly the Ultegra lineup on any new bike or build, but SRAM is king to me. That said........I have a 2022 Cannondale SuperSixEvo with SRAM Rival AXS that came built on the bike from a shop. I have to say, the Rival is quite pleasant, but I recently bought a full drivetrain upgrade to the Force D2 system (shifters/brakes, cassette 10-36, crank 172.5 in 46-33, chain, FD and RD) but keeping the Paceline rotors for now. I have yet to build that up and will wait until this fall to do so. As to Red and it going head-to-head with Dura Ace................I do simply believe it comes to the Chevy vs. Ford mentality or at least here in the states. If tomorrow I no longer had SRAM to use, I could go back to Shimano with hardly any grief but if given the option................SRAM is Legend! Great review and will be subscribing to your channel!
My MTB has 177.5 cranks that are stock. I’m 6’2 and have 175 on my gravel bike, I ride with a guy who’s 6’4 and uses 177.5 also. Those bigger sizes exist, so glad sram makes them.
From the recent patents we reckon definitely fully wireless for the next DA, 13-speed...anyone's guess at this point...we'll keep digging for more info!
It feels silly commenting on videos about stuff so ridiculously way out of my price range, but I wish the gap between the chainrings was bigger - 46*11 with 28mm tyres ad 90rpm is 48km/h so it's already an let's say optimistic gear to have on my bike, but I'd certainly welcome a 29ish ring at the front to have a tighter spacing between the gears at the back and still have 1:1 or thereabouts ratio.
How's the battery life though, has it improved? One problem i see from my pals with sram is that they need to charge all the time to the point they had to ditch some rides because they forgot to charge. Meanwhile i only charged my DI2 4 times the entire year with about 1000km/600miles monthly distance.
I prefer Dura Ace 7800 10s durability and relatability. Doesn't drop the chair, never has brake rub, still has smother and more quiet shifting than SRAM. 28t is enough for climbs on a 53-39t chain set.
Apparently yes. Chris miller saying big to small now as good as DA, and small to big much better than before. Others tried to get chain drops and couldn't. Big improvement on FD they all say.
@@pierrex3226 That's good to hear. I had the Red on my Dogma F and could not get it adjusted, no matter how hard I tried. The chain dropping peeled the frame protector several times and I had enough. Cost me over $4,000 to replace it with the new DA, and it's like night and day. The idea that the top of the line groupset drops the chain is insane.
@@Edmond347 same here. I'm riding Cervelo S5 and before a Scott Addict RC with SRAM RED AXS... I adjusted the front derailleur so often and always chain drops outside and inside... In last race I got 2 times chain drops inside... that sucks... now I build up my Cervelo S5 with DA DI2... . No problems. I thought about to buy the new RED but atm there is to low feedback if the new derailleur works better... . So Shimano will now stay on my race bike.
dura ace owner and would defo swap it if I had the chance. Crappy levers that buzz (screws are tight) noisy 11t gear however it’s set up and weird double up shift bug mean I would defo choose new SRAM now. 12sp DA has been really disappointing for me.
What I like about this SRAM groupset is the FD and RD are completely wireless unlike Shimano's. What I don't like is the power meter battery being integrated and you have to send it back to them if it needs replacing. I mean why not just use CR2032 like what they use on the shifters.
SRAM Red - interesting the larger previously "semi-secret" 54/41 pro-spec rings are now officially available. Does this mean the even more "secret" pro-spec cassette will become official? Or are we still stuck with running a Dura Ace cassette & chain??
I'm a total Durace R9200 fan because I absolutely don't like the charging system on the front of the levers. I'm currently using a 54-40 power meter crank, 11-30, cassette, you can also use the Sram with a faster crank that's compatible with the system would be converting? If so, would a Scram be faster than a Durace R9270? I don't necessarily want to wait for the winner of the 2024 Tour de France to find out🤣🤣🤣
It's a dumm question But how much insean and how much tall are You ?. I'm 179 cm and 88.8cm insean and wanna run a 165mm crankset. It is really good on That cranks?, Even in mtb i'm going to run 165mm cranks
Is it just me or do SRAM’s hoods look a touch longer than Shimano’s? Do these change ur reach ever so slightly? Im a small rider and Im very self concscious about my smaller… reach.
I'll stick with shimano Dura-Ace and their 3 years warranty. New sram chainring will probably be pricey to replace and has to be sent away to have the power meter swapped over to the new ring.
Been waiting for the new Sram Red release for a while now, before ordering my new bike. Great news on the reviews! Sadden to leave Campy, which I've been using since 2007. Sram total wireless shifting won me over. also glad to support an American company.
Shimano 105 R7000 is better than both of them in my opinion. 2x11 speed mechanical with super smooth and fast shifting with parts that are pretty cheap to replace as far as 2x11 speed groupset go
min 13 - I RIDE 180's STILL, they work much much better for me! And I'm totally angry with the manufacturers that so few deliver them... have I really to go to Shimano due to this? ...not as long as my Campa (Record and Super Record) are doing fine... I hope the time they are not compatible with modern tech anymore this nonsense trend is gone...
At this level, I doubt if anyone would place much emphasis on appearance. But at 07:11, the polished parts, especially the ring accents give the Sram all the look of a Wal mart special. Okay, that's rather extreme, and no offense to Wal mart nor Sram adherents, as appearance is very subjective. But the all black look of the Shimano sets off any bike color, especially the black-on-black color scheme. The polished parts of the Sram? It's rather complicated (visually).
And I'd still buy that one in a heartbeat if I didn't like Campagnolo's hood shape and thumb shifters more... I secretly wanted a mechanical SRAM Red for so long - even a 10 speed one so long as it comes with an 11-32 cassette, but I just don't like DoubleTap and their lever shapes.
5:33 is man serious, or is this a comedy channel? They redesigned the hoods completely which changes braking modulation and allow SRAM not to suck. Even though they still use DOT Fluid.
Oh and I thought the previous generations of these already overpriced groupsets were already offering perfect shifting, perfect comfort, perfect integration, perfect gearing, perfect weight, perfect bragging rights. Seems I was proven wrong by the marketing departments being thoroughly copy-pasted by various cycling channels.
After the unveiling of the new Sram Red AXS on the 15th I just ordered my second Dura Ace R9250! In my opinion those levers are ugly and I’m not a fan of the clunky shifting. Dura Ace is on point!
SRAM's marketing guys are ridiculous - they sell us the pulley wheels with more teeth because they reduce friction losses due to less articulation (which is true, though probably less than 1 watt) and at the same time they sell us smaller sprockets, smaller chainrings which increase the friction losses (more than what the pulley wheels are reducing) - they must believe their customers to be very dumb...
In your review...in all aspects sram red only catched up to Dura ace and not better any aspects. And Dura ace is 3 years old already. So to be honest sram is way behind 3 years.
Shimano only belongs on a fishing rod. I ran away from them as fast as humanly possible when they started making brake levers that moved laterally to shift. Sketchiest shit ever!
Would you choose the new Sram Red AXS over Shimano Dura-Ace?
Yes, sure. appreciate the one-finger breaking & the weight reduction so much.
Yes
I'd be happy with either if I got them for free/cheap, otherwise I'm sticking with 105

Shimano for Life 💪🏼
Shimano's hood buttons can't change gears, can they?
They can.
@@muyaho9151 Is it a DA thing? I can’t set it up with my Ultegra in my garmin.
Older red looks better
DA 7700, on a C40!!
Shimano
Sram alltheway
Shimano is vastly superior.
I love this unqualified and unspecific statement. So, the question is: Why? I use both, and each has pros and cons... 🥳
I’d choose sram just for the looks alone. Dura ace looks basic asf and similar to ultegra
Sram red axs
So the new sram Red just manages to do as well as the 3 year old shimano dura ace......
nice work sram
Shimano only belongs on a fishing rod. I ran away from them as fast as humanly possible when they started making brake levers that moved laterally to shift. Sketchiest shit ever!
Shimano all day
Shimano ftw!💪
Lets hope sram’s new groupset comes with a usb-c plug lmao
Go back to old Dura ace and red forget the new tech which is overpriced garbage.
SRAM has always been so ugly for me. The latest is still no difference. Shimano still rocks.
Campagnolo because it outperforms and outlasts this marketing dribble
In your wet dreams only
Fully agree
