Laughing at the "I am not an expert" sign. Just doing this at all means you have the admirable courage to try new things. You are an expert at doing that. Experimenting is part of the joy I find in art these days -- and I love to watch others trying new things, too!
Marbling paper is fun. I've done this with kids from 5-18. The older kids I used acrylic inks on water. I treated the paper by dipping the paper in an alum and water mixture. The papers turned out great. This was small group of 49, 12-18 year olds At a school art fair i sat up a booth with 4 foil rooster pan trays of liquid starch and slightly thinned acrylic paint. I find it's easier to use liguid starch with younger kids. The paint is less likely to sink as they use comb, skewer, or other tool to make there deigns. With help of 3 reluctant volunteers, we had about 200 kids make a sheet of marbled paper in about 2½ hours. Kid were K-4th grade. Got a bit messy, but we had a blast. Tarps were involved 😂
I remember doing this in highschool. I'm pretty sure we used tempera paint in some kind of thickened liquid. the colors were really bright and vibrant. I still have some of them!
