- In this Video I'm explaining the difference between the two Ableton Live Warp modes Complex and complex pro. Their main difference lies in how they treat formants when pitch shifting. So I'm giving a bit of background info on what formants are and showing the two warp modes in action with two examples.
Thank you for clarifying this and explaining it so well! been watching a bunch of vids and they all use it but don't explain why...much appreciated!!
That's nice to hear! Thanks for the feedback :)
My question is : why would you need 2 differents modes of complex and complex pro if complex is the same as complex pro with formants to zero ?
Im french, sorry for mistakes
Btw very good explanations, It's much clearer now !
Hey, thanks for bringing that up! I might not have been completely accurate on this one. I checked the Ableton Manual again and it says that "Complex Pro Mode uses a variation of the algorithm found in Complex mode, and may offer even better results (although with an increase in CPU usage.)" When I compared them they sounded quite identical to me, but my ears have their limits haha :) Cheers!
thank you so much! this was instrumental in keeping me from purchasing plugins when ableton has many features already built it!
Under appreciated channel
Enormously helpful video.
Sadly version 11 Suite is evidencing all sorts of timing artifacts with the various choices from beats to Complex Pro.
For example, I'm listening to (I paid for it and am not releasing or selling in samples, only for my own education) an old Italian pop song well recorded and correctly warped, using Complex Pro there is pronounced warble in some bars none in others. In version 10? No such issues.
Anyway, a great lesson. Subscribed.
Will you release it or at least sell them in samples for our own education?
So well explained, thank you!
was wondering why my vocal sample sounded so grainy and unclear, now I know, thanks!
very well explained thx!!
which warp mode would u recommend to warp a pad/synth/arp and slow down the bpm? ty
I would recommend complex (not complex pro) for Arps, Bass stuff like that. maybe even try "texture" for pads and see that it sounds like. Although I have to admit that I rarely use Pad "loops" and if I'm usind a Pad sample I would not warp it at all unless there is some time dependent modulation going on and I want to restore the tempo of that..
Thank you for your explanation Mr. Charlie Puth!
hahha I wish I had his talent and not his looks!? .. lol
When should I not use complex pro? When I want to hear an abvious sound adjustment?
yes, thats one of the cases in which u dont want to use complex! But also when u have to reasons to maintain the sounds formant structure. Lets say for Drums, Percussions, FX sounds and other often sound better in complex. (But obviously always depends on the situation!)
@@OleansHouse Thanks bro!
but complex pro with zero formants has the same effect of complex ?
I was of that impression, but the manual kind of implies that its slightly more advanced: "Complex Pro Mode uses a variation of the algorithm found in Complex mode, and may offer even better results (although with an increase in CPU usage.) "
perfect tutorial
thank you so much.
So, if I use autotune on vocal, and then I pitch my vocal up with complex pro, I dont need to change key in my autotune?
I think you can look at those two steps independently from eachother
Do you know what plugin I use for FL studio that would be the same as complex pro
unfortunately not :/
@@OleansHouse it's actually on the Edison plug-in. You'll just have to click the symbol that looks like a clock and right there is where you could pitch and preserve formants.
I am new in ableton. What is the name of this effect? can't find it left in the list.
if you are using audio clip and doublle click it, you will find some settings for this clip on the bottom. The warp mode can be found to the right of the volume slider for each clip. Its not actually an effect, but rather a time-stretch algorithm
What does the envelope slider do?
+1, come here for same thing
has any ways to modulate the ''formants'' on complex pro?
havent found a way so far in ableton10 :(
Thank you, now my vocals don't sound like Kanye West annoying chipmunk soul run off. This really helped me.
it is possible to automatizate the formants?
so far, no :(
If Live's pitch technology is from Zplane... I wonder why Zplane's Elastique Pitch does not have parameters like complex pro offered etc?
Music Production Videos fair point! I think ableton might costumize the technology they licence to optimze it dor their users. But thats just a wild guess at this point. Might have to read up on this one... cheers and thanks for ur comment
You look like Charlie Puth
lol 🤣 thanks I guess. Would prefer to have his ear instead of his looks tho..
