An absolute classic. I was 2 yrs old when this was debuted and watching it was like watching my own lifetime pass before my eyes. Here’s to the future! I think there’s room for a gazebo in it.😊❤

Great plot, great acting. They sure had some good tv dramas in the 1950's.

Miriam Hopkins was truly wonderful in everything she ever did! She came from a very wealthy Georgia family. An Academy Award-nominated actress, she was probably the only one that really intimidated Bette Davis. Elizabeth Montgomery is great in this too. Wonderful drama!!

Today people would fight to keep a historic gazebo and honor the idea of it being a symbol of more gracious times. I guess in those days, progress was king. Now even though it still is, there is a strong current to keep historic buildings. I can totally relate to her being upset that the housing project blocked her view of the sunset and that her beloved gazebo was being torn down.

At the time everything that was considered old, outmoded or old fashioned wasn't considered worth saving, restoring or using and that included many great ideas that today in early 21st century are looked at much differently!!

I’m fascinated that urban renewal and the demolition of historic buildings was the basis for a play right smack dab in the middle of when it was happening in real life across the country.

Anyone else see Blanche Dubois (A Streetcar Named Desire) in the mannerisms of Mrs. Durant?

There was a certain sort of southern woman who just behaved like this, mannerisms and all; I frankly remember them from my own family. Interestingly, Miriam Hopkins was the first major actress to play one of the neurotic heroines of Tennessee Williams -- this was in his first commercially produced play, Battle of Angels, back in 1940. She got good reviews, but the play did not survive its Boston tryout; the prim Catholic city did not buy what Williams was selling.

A masterpiece of narcissism, manipulation, and control that although was seemingly overplayed nevertheless shows us all how some people make life all about themselves at the expense of others. The lesson should be that we examine ourselves carefully to be sure that we do not think and act in similar ways.

The "theme" of this episode is "Old Creole Days", composed by Ferde Grofe for his "Mississippi Suite". A 1946 Columbia recording by Andre Kostelanetz and his orchestra was used.

Liz: what an actress. Actually they are are fine performers, but she shines.
This story is an acquired taste. I find it entertaining, but few friends would.

And the irony is, Liz was appearing on a program that was opposite the second half of NBC's "ROBERT MONTGOMERY PRESENTS: YOUR LUCKY STRIKE THEATER" {"Bella Fleace Gave A Party", based on an Evelyn Waugh story, starring another great character actress, Fay Bainter}. She was also a member of "Daddy's" summer stock company for several seasons.
