  • The film "Learn to Change the World" shows people from around the world who work on the big pedagogical tasks of our time based on Waldorf/Steiner pedagogy. It is the first of more to come which aim to show concrete approaches to these tasks.

    As I grow older I become more and more grateful to my parents for sending me to a Steiner school. It may not work for everyone because we are all different, but I sincerely hope that everyone in the future is at least allowed the opportunity to experience this beautiful education system. Thanks Mum and Dad!

    Best decision my wife and I ever made: removing our two from a kindly but clueless primary that began to shut them down, to go to the newly-built Steiner school in Hereford, UK. They grew into competent, peace-loving, fulfilled adults - and kept their bright-eyed smiles and natural curiosity. Bravo Rudolph!

    This is exactly the type of things we parents were talking about in regards to sending our children to our small Jewish school. We're not Waldorf, but i'm looking for inspiration from Waldorf (as well as others), and we said public schools put far too much emphasis on mathematics over literally everything. Over rhetoric, over literature, over critical thinking, over creative thinking, over ethics and social justice, over emotional health.
    Kids these days can learn plain information online over a summer. What we need to teach our kids is HOW to learn, as well as things like responsibility, integrity, diplomacy, teamwork.

    I highly recommend waldorf. It’s not just for the child, but also for the parent. You don’t send your child to waldorf without becoming a part of a community

    I went to a Steiner school from 1st-8th grade and I wish that my parents had taken me out of it before 3rd grade. I’m in my 20’s now and I am and will always be behind in terms of education. I think it works for some kids, but if at some point your kid tells you that they want to go to public school or something else, listen to them. Your kids aren’t dumb, they know themselves better than you do.

    I love the concept of waldorf education. Steiner's spiritual descriptions are so close to my heart. However, Waldorf education is so expensive where I live and this price tag seems to defeat its purpose. How can we raise whole human beings if only those well off can afford it. I wish I could send my children to a waldorf school instead of subjecting them to a flawed public education that wants to put them into a box

    • @oddn
      @oddn 4 года назад +12

      That is one of the great sadnesses of Waldorf in these times.. Governments don't like to support alternative forms of education that don't fit they're close-minded criteria, so the school's are forced to be private, which does indeed defeat Steiner's intention of them being open to all people from all backgrounds. Many schools have bursary options so perhaps that's something you could look into? My parents couldn't afford to send myself and my sister to Steiner but they spoke with the school and were able to make some sort of arrangement. The schools will help you if they can, but we also need to challenge our government's policy.

      It's not hard to give your child home education with a waldorf style. It just takes a parent to be willing to teach and be motivated to plan lessons for their child. Homeschool is the best option along with co ops and church so that the child can make friends.

    We did three years of the Parent-Child Program and loved it. What a wonderful base it was for me as a new mother and for my daughter. I always felt so grounded after leaving those sessions. I also felt supported in my choices. My daughter met her oldest friend (she is now 8.5) when they were eight months old and we have a special connection with them. We still try to attend various sponsored events and we never miss a holiday fair. We unfortunately did not continue due to the high cost of the tuition. I think a lot of people would love to attend a Waldorf School but the cost of tuition makes it unavailable. Hopefully this is something that can be worked on in the next 100 years-providing this kind of wonderful and amazing education. We were so glad to have it been a part of our lives, even if it was for a short time. Lovely film.

    You want to look at children as you want them to look at you: as a human being capable of thinking but even more important, FEELING!!! Emotion is the ultimate trigger for CREATIVITY! And many humans forgot that LOVE, PASSION, IMAGINATION AND CREATIVITY are key to ensure the development of the soul and an entire civilization! There's a reason we have BOTH HEMISPHERES IN OUR BRAIN, LOGIC AND EMOTIONAL! Use both and give children the OPORTUNITY to CHOOSE!!

      @Future Hindsight why do you think to shut Waldorf education?

    • @KevinChheda
      @KevinChheda 5 лет назад

      @Future Hindsight Hi, alphabates and numbers are introduced on grade 1 age 6/7, which is normal. Also kids get co up with public school well by grade 5. The block method takes wholeness in subject which is nice. Gardening and Agricultural and emphasis on art are subject make it different from rest. I have my kid in Waldrof school, and is learning and more to that he is Happy.
      May be your case to change school at grade below 5, is what make you feel uncomfortable...
      But I still believe first few years should be focused on physical growth and not mental growth... Remember old saying "Health is real Wealth". I wish even public school to postpone learning abstract subjects like numbers and alphabates till grade 1. In kindergarten only play and communication to be focused.

    • @KevinChheda
      @KevinChheda 5 лет назад +1

      @Future Hindsight Don't take as debate, just want to talk.
      1. My kid is in grade I, Waldrof school do introduce each letter. Each letter take three session in main lesson. Day 1 story of alphaland / Number land. Day 2 form a alphabet by arranging children to form shape and walking over shape and so... Some movement. Day 3 letter written to main lesson book with pic where it can be imagined like 2 with duck, M with Mountain and so. This alphaland and numberland are even prescribed in syllabus book designed for teacher.
      2. We were very well informed that we need to have patience at least until grade 4 finishes and by that time kid will be equipped with required skills to adjust on public school if needed.
      3. Regarding reading also I am not agree, we have a reading session once a week where a artical read aloud and then everyone put their own view around topic this helps to understand book represents someone's view and we all can have somewhat different view....for kid it starts from grade 3 or 4. In our school parents also invited to attend read aloud session.
      4. Books avoided in early grades to avoid over stimulation but in higher grade multiple reference book read to understand the topic and perspective. Math or science book avoided as its tought different way to make concepts clear.
      There could be school having focus on making huge business... But not all.

      In a Waldorf school, kids don't have to wait till they are 9 to learn the alphabet. Maybe in your class that was your experience - not all teachers are the best or maybe it took that long for that class to get to that point! But can you establish a general truth on the basis of your own unsatisfactory experience?
