  • This video is one of a series covering the rebuild of a 1975 Triumph Trident T150V engine. This video covers fitting the piston rings and then fitting the pistons to the con-rods. After this the barrels and cylinder bores are fully inspected and prepped before fitting them to the crankcases.

Hi Chris, the conrod big-end will not fit down the cylinder from above. You have to insert the piston and conrod into the cylinder from below to do it this way. Also, I'd definitely oil the piston skirts and cylinder bores. Andy.

Thanks, I'm away at present, but will check big end etc. on return. I take your point on oiling the skirts but wanted to keep the bores as dry as poss. to help the rings bed in.

Hi Chris, can you tell me your reason for not using the 'pie' nuts on the big ends? Cheers,Duncan

The pie crust big end nuts are prone to weaken and so come loose, which is the last thing you want to happen!

There are more modern versions of the same. I think they are known as Clevelock nuts.
