Deliverance from WHAT (?) , precisely is the issue in every usage of "Saved/Salvation".
Sorts out the impossible , contextually .

According to Gary Habermas, Rudolf Bultmann, a prominent 20th century leader of the German critical school, labeled this passage and some 10 others scattered throughout the New Testament as an early church creed (many within 6 months to a year after the resurrection)… He viewed Romans 10:9-10 as probably a baptismal creed… 85+% of early believers were illiterate and creeds were developed for them to remember the teachings of the apostles long before any New Testament scripture existed…

    1 Corinthians
    Chapter 15
    1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, UNLESS ye have believed in vain.
    3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Unless You Believed in Vain (1 Corinthians 15:2)
August 7, 2019 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - 1 Corinthians 15:2, Eternal Security, the perseverance of the saints, unless you believed in vain
I received the following question in a comment to a blog I wrote: “Why does Paul say you can believe in vain, 1 Cor. 15:2?”
The questioner doesn’t seem to believe in eternal security. He implies that Paul was saying that you could believe in Christ, be born again, and then end up going to Hades anyway because the belief proved to be in vain due to a failure to persevere in faith or good works.
In real estate, the three keys are location, location, location. In hermeneutics, Bible interpretation, the three keys are context, context, context. The answer to this question becomes apparent when we look at the context.
Various chapters in the Bible are known by one-word descriptions. We all know that the love chapter is 1 Corinthians 13. The repentance chapter is Luke 15. The faith chapter is Hebrews 11. The Millennium chapter is Revelation 20. And the resurrection chapter is 1 Corinthians 15.
In 1 Cor 15:12 Paul says, “some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead.” In v 14 he writes, “And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty, and your faith is also empty.” In vv 17-19 he says, “And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most pitiable.”
Verse 2 is parallel to vv 14 and 17-19. If Christ did not rise from the dead, then belief in Him is in vain, empty, futile, pitiable. There is no everlasting life if there is no resurrection of the dead.
This understanding of 1 Cor 15:2 is recognized by many commentaries. The following are a few examples:
To reject bodily resurrection eviscerated “the gospel” and made faith vain (eikē, “without cause” or “without success”; cf. vv. 14, 17) because it had an unworthy object (cf. 15:13, 17).
-Dave Lowery, 1 Corinthians in BKC, p. 542.
…if their current position as to “no resurrection” is correct, then Christ did not rise, which in turn means that they did indeed believe in vain. If they are right, everything is a lie, and they cease to exist as believers altogether.
-Gordon Fee, First Corinthians, p. 721.
Condition of first class, unless in fact ye did believe to no purpose (eikēi, old adverb, only in Paul in N. T.). Paul holds this peril over them in their temptation to deny the resurrection.
      -A. T. Robertson, Word Pictures, s.v. 1 Cor 15:2.
If, as the errorists in Corinth taught, there is no resurrection, Paul says, v. 14, our faith is vain; it is an empty, worthless thing. So here he says, the gospel secures salvation, unless faith be of no account.
-Charles Hodge, First Corinthians, p. 312.
I should note in closing that I do not agree with the view of many commentators that the words “by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you” refer to regeneration and the so-called doctrine of the perseverance of the saints. The words you are saved are in the present tense. More literally it says, by which you are being saved…
Contrast 1 Cor 15:2 with Eph 2:5, 8 and the words “you have been saved.” Both are passive voice. But the former is the present tense, and the latter is perfect tense. The latter looks at regeneration. The former does not.
The present tense salvation in 1 Cor 15:2 is sanctification, being spiritually healthy, as it is in 1 Cor 3:15 5:5 (though those two refer to being found spiritually healthy at the Bema). In order to be spiritually healthy, believers must hold fast to the gospel message, the good news that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried, rose from the dead, and appeared to many witnesses (1 Cor 15:3-11). That the Lord’s Supper is a central part of Christian worship underscores this point.
      Dwight Hunt writes:
Furthermore, it is the gospel by which also [believers] are saved, if [they] hold fast that word. This statement stresses the fact that the gospel includes more than justification, which brings forth eternal life; it also includes a daily sanctification (are saved) if believers hold fast (or abide in) the word (cf. John 8:31-32; Rom 1:15; 10:9; 1 Cor 15:2; Gal 2:20; Eph 2:10; Jas 1:21). This daily sanctification process relates to the quality of life the Christian will spend in eternity (3:9-15; Luke 19:11-27; Rom 8:16-17; 2 Pet 1:10-11).

      Does 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 Contradict John 3:16?
July 13, 2021 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, the cross and the promise of life
A reader expresses his agreement with our understanding of what it means to believe in Christ, and then he asks how we explain 1 Cor 15:1-11:
So, I was reading a few blog posts from the GES about what it means to believe in Christ. However, I actually had already known (more or less) of what your stance about this question is (being that I like your ministry, listen to your podcast, read your blogs and whatnot, etc.). And, as it is, through reading John, I too agree that “belief in Christ” (the belief necessary for eternal life) is the belief that He guarantees everlasting life, not the belief in Christ’s works.
Anyway, the actual reason I was reading the blogs in the first place is because I was wondering how our position on salvific belief would be defended in the reading of 1 Corinthians 15-vv. 1-4 specifically. One would imagine that whatever was “of first importance” (v.2) to Paul would be whatever can trigger everlasting life in a person; nevertheless, Paul makes no mention of believing that Jesus guarantees eternal life. His emphasis is explicitly on believing the death, burial, and resurrection. So, how would you reconcile this passage with the belief that Jesus grants eternal life to those who belief just that?
I have written on 1 Cor 15:1-11 on several occasions. See a 2019 blog on believing in vain here, a 2008 Grace in Focus Magazine article dealing with things that people add and take away from 1 Cor 15:1-11 to try to make it evangelistic, here, and a 2020 blog on the need to hold fast, here.
I will summarize what I say in those articles.
First, the Gospel of John was written long after the birth of the Church to tell people in the church age what they must do be saved (John 20:31). Nicodemus (John 3) and the woman at the well (John 4) both came to faith, yet there is no indication that the Lord preached the cross and resurrection to either. (He did allude to the cross in John 3:14-15, but even the disciples did not understand this as a reference to Jesus’ dying. Compare Matt 16:21-23. The eleven disciples were born again years before they believed in Jesus’ death and resurrection.)
Second, 1 Corinthians 15 is the great resurrection chapter. Paul is not evangelizing in this chapter. On this side of the birth of the Church, people come to faith in Christ for everlasting life by learning of His death and resurrection for us. Yet that is not the point of 1 Cor 15:1-11. Paul is calling the Corinthians to ongoing sanctification. He is writing to believers in Corinth on the importance of Jesus’ resurrection in their daily walks.
Third, vv 1-11 serve to introduce the chapter. Paul’s point in these verses is that the believers in Corinth can be spiritually healthy by holding fast to the good news that Paul preached to them concerning Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. The salvation mentioned in 1 Cor 15:2 is not a past completed event as in Eph 2:8-9. Instead, it is a present tense ongoing salvation that is contingent on holding fast to the gospel Paul preached. That salvation is being spiritually healthy. Compare 1 Cor 3:15; 5:5.
Fourth, the point of 1 Cor 15:1-11 is clearly found in Paul’s call to the believers in Corinth to hold fast to the truth of the gospel (1 Cor 15:2). It is possible that a believer will stop living at the foot of the cross and the entrance to the empty tomb. We must hold fast if we are to remain spiritually healthy.
Fifth, those who seek to make 1 Cor 15:1-11 into an evangelistic text have to do a lot of adding and taking away. They have to add the promise of everlasting life, which is not mentioned in this passage, as the reader points out in his question. They have to add that the moment one believes in Jesus he receives that life. The passage says nothing about what we receive at the moment we first believe. They have to take away the requirement that one hold fast to the gospel in order to stay saved. This passage does not contain what we find when Paul discusses the message of life. Compare Acts 16:31; Eph 2:8-9; 1 Tim 1:16.

      1 Corinthians 15:2
By this gospel you are saved, [IF] you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise you have believed in vain.
IF we believe the gospel that Paul preached We will come to Christ in repentance.
      Acts 17:30
In the past God overlooked such ignorance but now commandeth all people every where to repent.
      Acts 20:21
I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.
      Jesus and Paul
      Acts 26:18-20
To open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
19 So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven.
First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.
      Show evidence of your repentance
      by your conduct.
      Galatians 5:24
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
We must also be immators of Christ as Paul was (1 Corinthians 11:1).
Romans 8:6-7,13 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law,
nor can it do so.13For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
Paul warns about satan's deception of not repenting of our sins.
      2 Timothy 2:25-26
Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
Without repentance and faith resulting in a lifestyle change you will not be saved.

Romans 7 undeniably demonstrates - in the Present Tense - the very thing you're denying .
Repentance (turning from all sins till death) is works , in every conceivable NT usage .
Working for a Free and Never Deserving Gift makes zero sense to a 5 year old , 11 times outta 10 !
The carnal Corinthians were Eternally saved , despite their sins .
      You deny that ?
Instead , your Object and Content of your "faith" is your 5 part Perseverance in Performance (works) Contract till death , whereby your behavioral performance (works) is the DECISIVE FACTOR in your Everlasting destination .
      Believe" ..."What" ? ...is the quintessential issue : John 3:16 & Ephesians 2:8-9 .
That He is the Messiah/Christ = "Life" in His name .
The kind of Life He gives is called "Everlasting/Eternal" as Exegetically derived from the book of John itself :
      John 1:12-13,3:1-18,4:1-39,5:24,6:28-47,10,11:23-27,20:31 .
Corresponds to Acts 16:31 ; 1 Timothy 1:16 (Paul designates himself as the recipient of eternal life) ; Galatians 2:16,3:26 .
Endless Justification before God is the status of all those imputed with His PERFECT Righteousness , apart from working for it/Earning or Meriting it / DESERVING it based on one's Perseverance in Performance (works) till death :
      Romans 3:20-5:11,11:6,29 ; Ephesians 2:8-9 ; Titus 3:5 ; Philippians 3:9 ; & the book of Galatians .
*** One doesn't fish for Salmon in a Trout Stream any more than one goes to the Song of Solomon for Eschatological or Soteriological considerations .
Same for Evangelistic/Everlasting Life/eternal Justification before God contexts .
Therefore , what the book of John clearly articulates - specifically devolving upon Evangelistic/Everlasting Life concepts - are definitive .
Your ideas contradict the book of John . That's why you don't like what it undeniably affirms , because you deny the following :
      1. The present possession of irrevocable Everlasting Life simply by childlike faith in Him FOR it (John 3:16 & Ephesians 2:8-9) .
      2. That irreversible Everlasting Life is a Free and Never Deserving Gift solely acquired by simple childlike faith in Him FOR it , thus one is forever invested with His PERFECT Righteousness that alone enters His Kingdom .
Instead , you're affirming that one must Necessarily work till death - in Perfect Sinlessness (?) ... mostly Perfect behavioral performance (works) (?) ...??...you simply have Never told us !
Cuz you don't have access to Objectively verifiable behavioral performance (works) criteria that puts the Anchor in the Water , forever .
A manifest absurdity unrivaled in the History of the world .
So , your concept of "faith" is belief in your Unknowable level of hopefully good enough behavioral performance (works) till death , that makes His PERFECT work of Redemption where He fully propitiated for all sins ever committed Null & Void .
You're literally telling Jesus that He wasted His time in "loving the whole world";and desiring that all come to Him for "Life" unending .
You're literally erecting a statue of yourself that you're genuflecting before in blatant self Idolatry borne of the same Pride of your predecessors (Judaizers/unregenerate Scribes and Pharisees (Matthew 23) .
This underscores every attempt to "come in some other way" by means of self righteouness .

One sip of His Water of Life Forever quenches the thirst for eternity and gives the endless Gift of His imputed Righteousness: John 4:10-14 ...
Only simple childlike faith in Him FOR His doubtless Guarantee of irrevocable Life (His Person/Promise) , sets the Anchor in the Water , without termination .
Cuz He cannot lie to the little ones , unhindered by all self righteous (works) attempts to "come in some other way" by means of one's Filthy Rags righteousness .

The context is preaching the gospel (verses 11 - 18) so how can it not be eternal salvation.
You are imposing your free grace theology on the text.
Chapter 10 starts in verse 1 with eternal salvation and continues all the way through with eternal salvation
Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
Rom 10:13-15 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (14) How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? (15) And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

    Rom.10:9-10
You will be saved IF you do these 2 things.
IF you confess with your mouth that Jesus as Lord. It's not enough to simply acknowledge that Jesus is God, that He is Lord of the universe, the demons acknowledge that, it says in James 2:19
You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.
The theology of the demons is impeccable, their Christology and knowledge of God far surpasses ours. They know God is the Sovereign of the universe,
they know Jesus is God,the deity. They know that doesn’t save them.
What does Paul mean when he says confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus he means confess Jesus as your Lord your Sovereign. This is a deep personal conviction without reservation that Jesus as Lord and master, meaning to be obeyed.
Jesus said: Luke 9:23 IF you want to follow me deny yourself.
The gospel is more than a claim of belief, it's about self denial. It's not about Jesus
I believe in you, I know some popular scriptures.
It's about you humbling yourself, beating on your breasts, changing your mind about your sinfulled life crying out to God,be merciful to me a sinner, and save me.
It's about saying Jesus I acknowledge you as my Sovereign Lord and master,I deny myself and I submit to serve you.
The rich young ruler wouldn't do that. Jesus said to do sell everything take all of your money and give it to the poor and to follow Him.That doesn't mean that to obtain salvation you must give all your money to the poor otherwise the poor wouldn't be able to be saved unless they gave away their money.
The point in that parable is that Jesus was testing his commitment to His Lordship. He could have asked him to do a hundred different things. Jesus asked him to do something that would test his willingness to deny himself. He went away, saying I'm not doing that.
He wouldn't confess that Jesus was to be the Lord of his life, he wouldn't submit to His sovereignty.
The feature here in being saved is to believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. Meaning to believe that Jesus died on the cross was buried and rose again, that the resurrection shows that He is God as indicated in the statement that He is to be confessed as Lord, so you are confessing both the deity of Jesus Christ, the Sovereignty of Christ and the work of Christ's sinless life substitutionary death literally body resurrection, believing in your heart the facts of the gospel that God raised Him from the dead, is to say God the Father put the stamp of divine approval on the perfect work of Jesus Christ.
Christ's resurrection was a Supreme validation of His earthly ministry. You will be saved only when you have acknowledged Jesus as your Lord believing in the substitutionary work validated by His glorious resurrection
you believe in your heart you confess openly with your mouth unto salvation.
    Jesus said
    Matthew 10:32-33
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.33
But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
You either confess or you deny. IF you fail to confess then you are in effect denying.
Each of us has to come to a point where we publicly acknowledge our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Wherever you go let people know you believe Jesus is the Son of God.
    Jesus is Lord.
IF He is our Lord, what does "Lord " mean. It means someone who is to be obeyed.
    Luke 6:46
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
    James 1:22
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
There are many scriptures promising eternal life,
there are no promises for those who hear only, but a hearer and a doer.

There's nothing about works in that.
Repentance can only happen when God drawls you to Him by Faith.
Repentance is the result of Faith.
All this Faith alone talking points without repentance is not real Faith.
You are saved by Faith, but IF it's a faith that works.
It's not a static intellectual faith.
It's a faith that motivates you. You start to do thing you'd never do before.
Why do you claim Jesus the disciples including John and Paul who all preached repentance preached works?
Do you also think believing in Jesus is works since that is required ?
Or just the first requirement that you don't want to do?

Not a single passage in the Bible states :
"Repentance is the result of faith" .
      You're lying .
      Repentance is works .
      Not faith .
Not once is working a condition of being born again with irrevocable Everlasting Life as a Free gift .
Your behavioral performance till death is your Object of faith .
That is self worship. Self Idolatry .
Cuz you deny His Finished Work of Redemption .
You think it is really dependent upon your Perseverance in Performance (works) that's the Decisive factor in your Everlasting destination .
      @2Chronicles714_
Not one Bible passage states that
Your argument makes no sense . The utter ABSENCE of evidence of your affirmation doesn't prove persuasive to anyone truly invested in the pursuit of Objective Truth .
      Repentance is works (Matthew 12:41 ; Jonah 3:10) .
      Not faith .
Book of John's contents never have turning from all sins till death (and your 5 part Calvinistic Theological Determinism Gift of faith Package Deal) anywhere mentioned as the NECESSARY CO-CONDITIONS to earn/merit/ be rewarded with/DESERVE...His Free and Never Deserving Gift of Endless Everlasting Life .
So , you have zero Exegetical support for your works righteousness affirmation .
Only faith in Him for what He actually Certifies regenerates .
Faith is written in the book of John in the Gnomic (timeless) tense .
You're apparently ignorant of the Greek .
Ho Pisteuon absolutely destroys the "Continuous faith" concept .
Acts 16:31 & Ephesians 2:8-9 are Objectively in the Aorist tense . Are you aware that these 2 verses ALONE destroy your rejection of the present possession of His endless Gift of Everlasting Life ?
      Just those 2 passages .
Further , faith has an Object .
Yours is your 5 part Perseverance in Performance (works) contract .
You obviously have "faith" in what you're doing/will DO...till death , as an "infallible metric" of your Everlasting destination .
      Couldn't be a clearer contradiction of Ephesians 2:8-9 ; Romans 3:20-5:11,11:6,29 ; Titus 3:5 ; Philippians 3:9 ; book of Galatians .

What do Ephesians 2:8-9 ; Romans 3:20-5:11,11:6,29 ; Titus 3:5 ; Philippians 3:9 ; & the Book of Galatians state concerning endless Justification before God by making one's Perseverance in Performance (working for a Free and Never Deserving Gift of Endless Everlasting Life) the "Infallible metric" for being Born Again with irreversible Life/thus imputed with His PERFECT Righteousness (the Free Gift) ?
      ***HINT ...
it's antithetical to All works like a :
"Calvinistic Theological Determinism Gift of faith (ARBITRARILY given to those who couldn't possibly have done otherwise than Irresistibly and Unconditionally acted upon Extrinsically) , the Object of that Gift faith being one's behavioral performance (works ) till death .
So , your entire scheme is Self Righteous Idolatry under cover of Christian terminology , very obviously .
Your doctrine affirms the Unaffirmable .
It is the very definition of Irrationality .
It is utterly contradictory to every conceivable Evangelistic/Everlasting Life/eternal Justification before God passage in the Bible .
It is the essence of Prideful arrogance that can only seem reasonable to an unregenerate Scribe.Pharisee/Judaizer , drunk on self righteouness .
"Of course, this is all nonsense. But doesn’t Lordship Salvation lead to such arrogance? How can I believe that others don’t have enough good works to show that they’re saved but I do-and not feel superior to them? How is it possible not to become self-righteous with such a message? The one who is deceived is the one giving that message while at the same time claiming to be a “humble servant of the people.”
That message reminds me of the attitude of the Pharisee who prayed with the tax-collector in the temple. The Pharisee looked around at the people and said, “God, I thank You that I am not like other men” (Luke 18:11). The Lord said that He gave this man as an example because there were those who “trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others” (Luke 18:9).
It is a popular sentiment, expressed in a popular theology. But it doesn’t spring from a humble heart. It springs from a heart that can be described in a completely different way." (Dr. Ken Yates)

GES doesn't believe you have to confess, repent, call on the name of the Lord or even keep on believing......after you have believed for one second, you then can do whatever you want, even become an unbeliever, and you will still be saved. John 3:16 is the only scripture in the entire bible to believe in, the rest of the bible is useless........name just one thing we must do besides John 3:16 to be saved? In the entire bible? will be waiting a very long time.......

GES is wrong in the way they explain scripture but in terms of the criteria for salvation, they are correct. A one time belief is all it takes. That’s what Paul told the jailer in acts 16:30-31.

Cuz those criteria are works .
      No Brainer Contradiction of Ephesians 2:8-9 , Romans 3:20-5:11,11:6,29 ; Titus 3:5 ; Philippians 3:9 ; book of Galatians .
Working for a Free and Never Deserving Gift is the Quintessence of absurdity , unrivaled in the History of the world .
No other Condition exists Biblically , than simple childlike faith in Him FOR His Free and Never Deserving Gift .
Can't have access to 1 John 1:6-9 without belief in Him for what He actually Certifies:
      John 3:16 & Ephesians .
All unbelievers in Him "die in their sins" as forever sinners , never having His PERFECT Righteousness imputed to them as the Free Gift .

That is not the position of GES at all.

      What about
      Acts 20:21
I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they MUST TURN TO GOD IN REPENTANCE AND HAVE FAITH in our Lord Jesus.
      Acts 17:30
In the past God overlooked such ignorance but now COMMANDETH ALL PEOPLE EVERY WHERE TO REPENT.
      Acts 26:20
First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.

      You're claiming Paul preached works.
      Acts 26:20
First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.
      King James says works.
