    I honestly believe Rachel’s pinning is believable. In that 2 weeks time she had time to process the information of Ross loving her and we see that all she can think about was Ross during that time. Ross and Rachel were best friends before she found that out, so she knew Ross was already a great guy. However, once she learned about Ross loving her she realized that Ross is the man she wants as he’s caring and funny and she is attracted to him. Rachel really fell for him.

      I don’t think there was enough scenes before to set to that were best friends. She was as close to Joey and Chandler really. The scenes Ross and Rachel had were meaningful from his perspective since he had this romantic feelings for her and was about to tell many times but was interrupted. And she didn’t know him letting her win at cards. Only meaningful moments for her really were laudry and then fighting about Marcel. And these were two events during a year. And the first episode where he ways he maybe will asks her out but never did, which she mentioned in the finale

    Rachel hadn't been into Ross for long, particularly not as long as Ross was into her. However when she first considered Ross, she went through all the struggle of figuring out if it was a good or bad idea. When she finally decided how great it would be she went ALL in. When you take into account that she had considered not going for it because of how bad a break up would be and decided to go for it because "It only has to happen once", and that as Phoebe said it would already be in a very relationshipy place, for her to go for it meant that she was jumping in for long term and at least some belief that it would be forever. Basically thinking it could be the rest of her life if she went for it. It wasn't so much a flight of fancy, as she DID really consider every aspect.

    What I like about shows from this era is they show how people react differently to certain things. Like the breastfeeding, Joey and Chandler were freaked out by it and that's fine, some people find it uncomfortable even today. I feel like shows made today have everyone being okay with everything and that's just not how people are, we're all different and we all have different feelings about different subjects. You may be okay with certain situations but that doesn't mean everyone else is. You say you'd be totally okay with tasting someone else's breast milk and that's fine, I would totally be grossed out by that.

    15:24 - Mary Tyler Moore was an actress who had her own show, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". The show was set in the 1970s, when American women were starting to redefine their place in society. The theme song ended with the line, "you're going to make it after all!", alluding to her struggling to find her way in the workforce. [Monica's "even Mary Tyler Moore" would've been better is a kind of a mean dig at her, especially since MTM was known for a shorter hair that basically never even touched her shoulders.]
    They also made two references to the *actor* Dudley Moore. He was in a movie called "10" about a super beautiful woman (played by Bo Derek). And he was in a movie called "Arthur" - the most famous song on the soundtrack was a HUGE hit at the time, "Arthur's Theme" (or often called "Best That You Can Do") by Christopher Cross. One of the famous lyrics was, "When you get caught between the moon and New York City, I know it's crazy, but it's true. If you get caught between the moon and New York City, the best that you can do, best that you can do is fall in love." The movie was about a spoiled rich man who acts like a teenage boy and has to grow up when he meets a woman he loves.

  • @Heida77
    @Heida77 3 дня назад +3

    Rachel is hilarious in these episodes, particularly the first one 🤣 It's funny to have the roles reversed and have Rachel being jealous. But I do agree, aside from being confused and surprised at first, she didn't really have a right to be so upset by it, even to the point of sleeping with Paolo AND bringing him back to the apartment. Especially since she said they were at HIS apartment, so even if she was distraught enough to sleep with him after what he did to Phoebe, there's no reason why they couldn't just stay there. I do like how, as you said, she still valued Monica's friendship more than a potential relationship with Ross, and at least APPEARED to give Julie a chance.
    If anything, Friends was ahead of its time by even showing "public" breastfeeding. In spite of its problems, it broke barriers in MANY of the topics on a show that was on the air in the 90's and 00's. This is a topic that is still very controversial today. Honestly I think it's because the VAST majority think of breasts as PURELY sexual, when that's not their initial purpose. Even when women cover up as much as they can, people still complain. Essentially, women can expose their breasts as much as they want AS LONG as there's no nipple showing (particularly on Instagram). But movements like "Free the nipple" (which I wasn't even a fan of at first because "breasts always have and always will be sexual") are saying that women's nipples shouldn't be censored any more than men's nipples, and they SHOULDN'T be looked at as PURELY sexual. I also just find it hilarious how people have such a problem with drinking human milk meant for babies but have no problem with drinking cow's milk meant for calves. Lastly, if you don't know, the reason Phoebe tasted the breast milk to begin with is because people usually do that to make sure it isn't too hot for the baby.
    I think the show definitely gets better and better and that is due to a combination of things. It was super popular and at its peak at this point (maybe the most from S2-6), plus there was bigger budget, better writing/acting as well as their chemistry was better and they were definitely feeling their characters more. The last couple of seasons are maybe not as good but still good imo.
    Fun facts: The Q-tip line, which is Matthew Perry's favourite Chandler line, was improvised. Also, Lauren Tom who played Julie, pitched the joke where Rachel says "Welcome to our country!" slowly and loudly, and Julie replies "Thank you, I'm from New York!" This was based on her own experience where people would approach her and react in a similar manner, believing she was a Chinese immigrant.
    Notice the 'reserved' sign at the table where they always sit at Central Perk, particularly in E1? It's the first time but not the last time it is seen. People have been wondering how the couch was always conveniently available for them and someone noticed the sign in various scenes throughout the series.
    Ross: "I like it. I think it’s a 10" - 10 is the name of a movie Dudley Moore was in. Chandler: “You could get caught in moon in New York City. I know it’s crazy but it’s true" - Part of the lyrics to Arthur’s Theme, the soundtrack of Dudley Moore’s movie Arthur. It won for Best Original Song at the Oscars 1982.
    The name Demi can be pronounced in two different ways: De-MEE as in Demi Moore or DEH-me as in Demi Lovato (in the case of the latter it's short for Demetria). Speaking of Demi Moore AND Andie MacDowell, Demi and Andie's daughter Margaret Qualley recently starred together in the body horror movie The Substance, which is not for the faint of heart but I absolutely recommend. It's a great commentary on aging in Hollywood, particularly for women, as well as being an allegory for addiction/eating disorders.

    I think it’s safe to say Susan’s emphasis on “tasted” means that she tried it fresh from the source.

      @ wow I didn't mean it like that lol. I like that you like all characters equally. My mistake if I thought you were one of those ppl that doesn't like it when someone does that, but doesn't matter if the other person does the same lol.

      @ yea good thing most friends fans know they were perfect for each other. I mean even the actors loved ross and Rachel together, especially Jen and for other reasons as well lol.
