    I love listening to Bill and would love to have one of his Bullet proof 6.4 Engines in my 08. Trouble is I'm on the the other side of your Northern Border and on the west coast. Now let's fast forward to to day its 2023 and its July and I'm running a 08 6.4 with about 115K miles on her this is my for ever truck and would love to have and meet someone as committed as Bill hear Bill if your listening and you have some kind cross border thing going on. Well I would sure love to hear about it. I just had the Trans Rebuilt would love to pare it with Bullet proof engine and the Big dog heads. Bill keep doing what your doing.

      I'm so tired of hearing how wonderful the 7.3 is. I had 3 of them and they're loud, don't have much power compared go new motors and on and on. My current 2011 Duramax is silent, starts the same in 90 or -20 degree weather, yields me 24mpg at 55 mph and will tow my 20000 pound gooseneck like it isn't there. The 7.3 is a dinosaur and it's gone for several reasons. Rant over

    I like your videos, There very informative and helpful for Ford owners and mechanics that are forced to repair them. The one thing I disagree with on this video is you said international cut costs and that was not Ford's fault, but really it is as much Ford's fault as it is international. they decided to run both the 6.0 and 6.4 in there trucks willingly. They should have done there research and worked with the international engineers to make it to Ford spec. Which I'm sure they did and just turned there back on this type of stuff to also save on costs. If they didn't then it's Fords own fault for not doing there research and telling a company to build them an engine with certain specs but to also save costs where they can. So really Ford is as much at fault for the cost savings as international is. Just like everything else they are cutting costs to make that extra penny. As long as it makes it past the warranty period is all they care about then after that they are happy to sell you all the parts you will need to fix it.

    sounds like the 6 L is a better motor than the 6.4. never have i ever seen a fully floating wrist pin that doesn't run in a bronze bush!!!

    I have a 09 6.4L with all the deletes with 125000km. It's was deleted at about 75000km. Wondering if I will eventually have major problems. Love the truck, it's a Harley edition but would rather trade it in and get something out of it. Great videos by the way.

  • @jgillcontractor
    @jgillcontractor 10 лет назад +1

    Bill, first off cant get enough of your videos, ill be ordering a set of heads asap, are you aware of someone that has fixed the wrist pin issue in the connecting rods? Or would you reccomend having a set machined to fit the bronze? Ive only got 140,000 on my 6.4 and got way ahead of the game long ago, about the only thing i have left is heads and now the connecting rods. Im making quite a bit of power with my truck and want it to last. My biggest upset with IH is lack of doing things right. I was livid to find at 40,000 when i did the first cab off for studs and up pipes, that IH didnt take the step to machine/mill out casting material in the heads and i didnt have a single pushrod that was worth saving. Anyway, keep up the good work Bill, all of us appreciate it.

  • @SVTPerformance

    Bill, do you believe that fuel dilution of the oil from the regen process is a leading cause of rocker arm wear in the 6.4s? The 6.0s seem to have a similar design as the 6.4s but I haven't seen them have rocker arm wear issues to the extent of the 08-10 trucks. I'm also wondering if the (IIRC) stiffer valve springs in the 6.4 is a contributor to the wear? I'm glad to see you pointing out the corners International cut on these engines, and it's good to see that Ford has learned from those mistakes with the 6.7. Keep up the good work.

  • @markusgarvey
    @markusgarvey 4 года назад

    Leave it to ferd to screw up like that...probably planned obstelence since the 7.3 go so long so they figured they had better make them wear out faster. I'm a GM guy, but i got a deal on a 95 1 ton Powerstroke. It had around 270k but it ran good. After about 2 years, I started having fuel system issues. I have been a mechanic for 35 years and never had worked on one, and it has been a learning experience. I just finished rewiring the injectors , new cups, and seals, (oil consumption went way up all of a sudden), water pump nut and the bolts all seized to the fan clutch and I had to hot wrench the bastard off. No fun at all . I have never has to do that in my life. I don't know where they though that fan clutch was going at 4000 rpm
    I changed to differential to 4.30 from 5.13 (or 5.23 something like that) so now it will cruise on the highway much better and it will do about 110 now, up from 80 mph. The 7.3 is not a bad engine, it's just everything else that is attached to it is the problem...over engineered. Typical ferd. Why ford has to have 17 million different injection and ignition systems is beyond my pay grade. I'm retired now, but I could make a living at replacing cups and seals for $3k a pop and only have to do 1 or 2 a month, and I will. Especially since I made all these special tools to do the job, why let them sit in my tool box?

    Stick with the 7.3's as long as you can . UPS gets 400 to 500 thousand on them . Usually replaced when the injector O rings need replacing .

  • @roofermarc1
    @roofermarc1 7 лет назад

    My fuel system had to be replaced at 197k We removed the heads and checked the pistons for any developing cracks, found none. Replaced the valve train and installed Ucf o ringed heads and arp's Mans and upipes oil cooler too. I was a fool, for not much more I could've installed a long block.

  • @TheCmoney84
    @TheCmoney84 10 лет назад

    Looks like one of those early models that didn't have actual valve guide but the block was just hardened around the valve. That was a engineering joke by Navistar. I am pretty sure Navistar went to normal guides afterwards.

  • @sheamoore4598

    Do you think that the reason your rocker arm tips were worn out is because of diluted oil? Thus causing the poor geometry

  • @92nbush
    @92nbush 10 лет назад

    That's what happens in today's modern manufacturing we have to continually improve to meet customer demands for price cuts I work for a company that does intake and exhaust tubing for companies like CNH Volvo paccar and Navistar. And every one of my customers ask for a 2-3% cost reduction on the price of their parts every year. Some companies meet these demands my improving technology and improving processes and some choose to meet these demands by cutting corners on materials. So when ford said to Navistar we need are annual kick back Navistar probably choose the easy way to do it and decided to use cheaper materials rather than improving their manufacturing process.

    Bill, thanks for all your videos, your knowledge is invaluable. I have a question: my 6.4 it's in 08 with 116,000 4600hours my truck runs fine, but it has a tapping noise, I can really notice it when driving next to a highway barrier at lower speeds with driver window down. It doesn't sound right, my dealer, which I have an excellent reputation with, says they can't find anything wrong. Do you have any suggestion? I'm certain it's not right I'm the only operator I know the truck better than anyone.

    I know this is an older video. However, I recently purchased an 08 F350 with a 6.4, I have a stuck valve on cylinder 2 due to my oil not making it all the way up there, causing a misfire. Any time I give it any rpms above idle the misfire goes away. Is there any change I can make to the oiling system to help get oil to that valve?

    221 for a 6.4 actually ain't to shabby. Mine has 300 .Was deleted brand new and never seen a regen cycle and I run the shit out of it. With a mild tune. Don't play with the H&S tuners, they'll blow your top end apart! Waaay too much timing.

    So, Ford knew and knows about these problems and there is no recall! Last Tuesday I had a rod open a window in the driver side of my block @ 139,000 miles and Ford just said " sorry it's out of warranty "
    I paid Ford to custom build my truck, end cost $80,000 or so. 6,125 lbs on the bed and 30,000 lbs for tow, this in an 08 450 SD 4 door shell.
    Consumer reports here I come. Henry, your kids screwed me.

    International Pisses me off and it really is Sad that Ford ended up with such a poorly engineered motor. They went from building a great motor in the 7.3 and all they had to do was improve on the success of the 7.3 and it's fix it's downfalls in the 6.0/6.4. It looks like each passing generation of IH Motors, the Execs at IH got richer and richer while the consumer got poorer and poorer fixing all the crap.
    Thank Goodness Ford kicked there behinds to the curb and moved on, well for the most part, I guess up to recent they were still putting the 6.0 in the E Series Vans?
