  • On December 9, 1956, 27,000 hardy fans turned up in the Bronx, at New York's Yankee Stadium, to peer through the gloom while the Giants battled the Cleveland Browns and the weather to overcome a seven-point deficit. Players including Giants' Frank Gifford, Charlie Conerly, and Kyle Rote, and Browns' Tommy B. O'Connell, and Fred Lew "Curly" Morrison struggled and sloshed through the rain and mud … and THEN SNOW!
Unfortunately, the Browns plus the weather were real spoilers that day for the Giants. But that didn’t stop the NY Giants from becoming being the 1956 NFL Champions.

It was the Browns' only losing season until 1974. The Giants, even though they lost this game, did clinch the Eastern Conference championship because the second-place Cardinals also lost (to the Chicago Bears, whom the Giants beat badly in that year's championship game).

1956 was the first year without Otto Graham, but this losing season allowed them to draft Jim Brown the next season

When I saw that @the Giants championship
Hopes would have to wait…” I flipped out since they won the title that year; wondered if it was another Mandela effect

Thank you for the clarity. Thought I woke up in a parallel universe. I was ready to start searching for videos for this parallel dimension
